who here is using Orb and has the live tv part working? im new to this so excuse my ignorance.

i installed orb on my iphone and home computer.. set up an account. Now i want to watch live tv on it.. and i have a few questions.

1) am i only going to be able to watch live tv at home where i have orb installed on my computer? or anywhere i go when its set up properly?

2) how the hell do i get the live tv part to work? thats all i care about on this app. I have basic comcast cable hooked up on my tv. My computer isnt hooked up to the tv at all either... is this still gonna work? what do i have to do?

With Orb, you need to have a TV tuner card in your computer. If you can't watch tv on your computer, it can't stream it to your phone.

thats kinda what i figured.

so if i have a tv tuner and can set it up to watch on my computer... can i then watch live tv thru Orb anywhere im at even on edge or wifi, or only at my house where im on MY wifi?

The only way I could get it to work away from home was to make sure my computer was on, and connected to the internet. Orb needs to know the IP address for your internet. That's how youc an access your computer from your phone. Your phone needs to be connected to a WIFI network too. Edge will often e too slow and the connection will time out.

So, again, your computer must have an active internet connection, and your iPhone must be on a WIFI network too. After that, you can stream any videos you have saved on your computer, tv programs, music, whatever. No format restrictions. If you computer can play it, you can see and hear it on the iPhone.

From any internet connection (including iPhone), you log in to your orb account and it will give you access to your copmuter's media (photos, music, videos, tv). So your home computer HAS to be on and connected to the internet.

To use live TV you obviously must have tv set up on the computer.

As mentioned above, the iPhone works great on wifi, but anything else (edge, 3G) I don't think will be fast enough. I was just watching some live euro 2008 games sitting in a park downtown (there was a wifi in the area). I think this Orb program is incredible, i'm surprised there isn't more buzz about it.

Post back if you need more help setting it up. It's a little harder for Canadians to setup the live tv since we can't automatically update the tv listings.

Actually if you fix the bitrate at like 50-70 and you have a great signal, orb will work over edge. Not the best picture, but it will work. As mentioned before, orb is installed on your computer only. Nothing to install on the phone.

Orb has a great client for the iPhone, much better than having to log in via Safari. Look for it in Installer.
