Hi all I have Verizon now and my contract is up, I really like the new Iphone 3G that is coming out. My question is I live in Chicago andVerizon has been great for service. Anyone out there that can help me decide if I should take the plunge and switch over to at&t? Thanks, Chuck

Look at where you will use the device - where you live, work, travel and play - and see which carrier provides the best coverage. If you never leave Chicago, all of the Big 4 are probably adequate, though.

IMHO, never leave good service just for a phone. You will probably be sorry in the long run.

chicago does have 3G with ATT, so that's a start. you really have to check your home, work and play areas to see if coverage is adequate. i'm certain that you will have good coverage, just a hunch, so i would say go for it. see if you can use a friend's ATT 3G phone to check signal strength...or just use the 30 day buyers remorse period.

i would say switch simply for the GSM and sim card world which has more freedom than verizon...though verizon does have a stellar network mostly.

Coverage in metroplitan areas are very similar. Customer service is very subjective while some hate a company others love it. But a very important decision is where the technology is going. Verizon and Sprint use CDMA, AT&T and T-MOBILE use GSM.

In the world (Europe, Asia, South Ameica and half of North America) there are over a BILLION GSM phones but CDMA is counted in MILLIONS.

Do you remember de 8-TRACK TAPE and CD? the BETAMAXand VHS? HD DVD and BLU-RAY? good quality but beat by the competion and gone!. I can't imagine what Verizon would do if CDMA goes the way of BETAMAX or HD DVD.

It already is essentially obsolete, the mobile market in the US is so much in a bubble though and there is so little awareness, that Verizon, Sprint, and all the MVNO's in between can get away with it.

It's not a format war because the carriers have their own little world where everything you get from them works... like Apple.

Good and bad for consumers.

Hi Roger,
I have the dedicated garmin nuvi (lot$$$). It's Great. The Garmin you have is preloaded or assisted. Do you pay a service fee or bought it? How much?

Be careful. Get a driver.
