Has anyone tried this yet to become eligible?

Has anyone who sold their original iPhone gone ahead and put there SIM in another iPhone and activated it? If so, can you confirm you are "upgrade eligible" or not?

Yes and Yes. Put my SIM in a crappy throw-away Nokia, and according to the website, I am still eligible.

You see I bought an iPhone in November and sold it in March. I put my SIM in a Blackjack 2 that I bought off eBay, and according to AT&T's account management site I am not eligible for an upgrade until next year.

It all depends on whether or not you still have the iPhone data plan on your account. Check out my post here about it: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1388223

I don't have the data plan anymore because after I put my SIM into my Blackjack 2 I would get very strange text messages when I'd get viocemail which apparently are the indicator the iPhone uses to donwload new voicemail for visual voicemail. I called AT&T to have that turned off, and at the same time they switched my data plan away from the iPhone plan.

So if I put my SIM into an iPhone and reactivate the iPhone data plan I should be all set, right?

Who knows... Give it a shot and let us know what happens. The experiment has little risk and potentially a big reward in an easy upgrade.

No, it doesn't stop spreading misinformation.

Everyone who has decent credit and a pulse is eligible.

I've not heard anything "official" on top of what has been said by CNet, Gizmodo, Engadget, Jobs' Keynote etc.

Until I hear some corroborated story, I'm not going to get my knickers in a twist over some wild theories that half the iPhone owners out there wont' qualify for the pricing.

So until I hear otherwise, I'm sticking to the original story. Once I hear otherwise thats the direction I'm goin'.

Then stop posting statements that make it sound as if you have. There are thousands of the unwashed masses that are reading this forum in an attempt to find out if they can get this new Jesus phone, and the last thing that we should be doing is posting opinion as fact.

Yup, I activated my old iphone back and now it says upgrade eligible instead of no-commitment pricing yesterday when I was using a Tilt

It says that because there is no iPhone 3G or iPhone v1 for sale on the site

Until you can buy an iPhone in some way shape or form you will always see a no commitment price

Yeah but my friend says his says no-commitment while mine says upgrade eligible. It didn't say that 1 hour ago before I activated the iphone again.
