My iPhone was stolen...

I bought it last November and it was stolen in March. I couldn't afford to buy another one so i've been using my old RAZR and of course canceled the data plan.

do you think i will be elegible for the 3G phone?

i really hope so.

No, you should not get a new phone because if you are ale to get your first one stolen than it is bound to happen again. I have had my Iphone for six months and I still own it.

What stupid reasoning. If your house was robbed leaving you with nothing, would you buy more stuff or leave your house empty? Might as well live in an empty home since you likely to get robbed again.

To the OP, get another phone if you like. Just be more careful with it.

That might be kind of smart though. It would give the robbers less incentive to rob your house again.

Had you kept the iphone data plan, possibly, but as you cancelled the plan I very much doubt it. You'll have to wait until your handset upgrade eligibility comes around.

my mom is elegible for an upgrade but she wants the 3G as well. Can she buy 2 phones?

Please ignore some of the previous posts. There have been numerous duplicate threads / posts about upgrading to the 3G iPhone. Some individuals are getting a little cranky.

You should be eligible for the new iPhone at the 199/299 price as long as you have not used your handset upgrade and it sounds like you have not since you mention that you are using your old Razr. Check your account online and see if you are eligible for a " discounted equipment upgrade".

AT&T is limiting 3G iPhones to 3 handsets per individual, so your mom should be able to get the 3G iPhone along with you. Does your mom have a family plan that includes her line and your line?

go to wireless.att.com and check on your upgrade status. If you are using an onld phone, that line might be eligible for an upgrade at a discount. Won't hurt to check.

.....sooooooo? its weird though i donno why moms says 10/12/2008 when she hasn't upgraded since omg probably 3 or 4 years ago.

No discount for you, sir. I know some people seem to think that everyone will be eligible for the $199/$299, but AT&T is going to lose a crap-load of doe from those who bought subsidized phones recently.

I want another 1st gen, in addition to the 3G, so I am going to check out the line at AT&T and ask people who have the 1st gen if I can buy their old one. I bet I can get quite a few for the cost of the new one. IE..give them $200 to cove the cost of the new one.

at&t and tmobile differs in the opening account policy. with tmobile when you cancel your account, you can't set up a new one for 4 months. in case you do during this time it would count as reactivating your old account and thus not eligible for cellphone "deals." at&t however, you can cancel and open a new one right away and it would count as a new account. so in your case, opening an account with at&t will count and you will be able to buy the iphone at the subsidized price.

what? that's totally wrong. You gotta wait 90 days for your account to be considered "new" again with all carriers. Otherwise people would be doing that all the time.
