Got my Sprint Blackberry Curve - What should I do?

Can someone kindly list a few must have "To Dos" to make the phone function as best as possible? This is my first Blackberry and I got it over the new Iphone mostly for practical reasons (trade stocks with ETrade Mobile Pro etc).

So far I activated it but neither the outgoing calls nor the internet works yet.

Also, a few questions I suppose:

1. Creating playlists for the mediaplayer - I use a Mac, what's the easiest way?
2. Any special GMail settings required (I have POP activated)
3. Any must have apps?
4. Any must have tweaks for signal/data speeds etc?
