Nokia 6301 java app fix?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: 3560freak

I just picked up a new Nokia 6301 from T-Mobile and immediately went to install my opera mini and google maps that I had been using on my Dash and RIZR. They both installed but nether would run due to permission error. i noticed that some others had posted similar issues with newer model Nokias on T-mobile. Most had some way to work around it. Is there a patch for this model or is this phone to new to know yet? Thanks.

BTW I am currently using the WiFi service that T-Mobile sells, so I don't thinkflashing it to another carrier software will work, as I assume that it would break the WiFi calling feature with Tmobile.

From what I understand, the only way around this is for Nokia or T-mobile to release a newer version of the firmware that doesn't have the same lockdowns. As a datapoint, there was at least a six month lag between 6263 release and a T-mobile branded firmware update available through Nokia that enabled 3rd party apps (and removed some T-mobile functionality).

so T-Mobile actually let loose on some of the restrictions on the 6263 or was it Nokia that just released the new firmware for the T-mobile phone and fixed it? If T-Mobile actually is playing ball then that may be good news for this and future Nokias from them.

Posted by: 3560freak

Does anyone know of an app that will sign java apps with the appropriate permissions for the phone to just work normally? Doesn't this seem like an easier method, instead of flashing a device with firmware that will ruin the warranty.

Posted by: O2C

A new firmware was made available through official Nokia channels with T-mobile branding on it for the 6263. Whether it was intentional or not isn't totally clear. It's possible that Nokia made a mistake. It's also possible that T-mobile heard user complaints and will allow for "power users" to update their firmware while leaving their phones locked down by default.

And just "signing" the app isn't enough. The way T-mobile likes to release their phones is with a version of a firmware crippling everything except apps signed with T-mobile's certificate. If you're a developer for T-mobile or working directly with T-mobile, you might be able to get that T-mobile signature onto your apps. If you have no direct affiliate with T-mobile, you'll never get a T-mobile signed app.

I have already written them regarding how unhappy I was due to this limitation on the phone. Their response was that they didn't think that the user experience for these apps were good enough and that I could enjoy them much better if I would get one of their smartphones. Let me decide if the user experience is good enough or not.

I wish I had visited before buying my 6301, the lack of 3rd party apps makes the phone almost useless to me. The Email app is locked to providers that I don't use, except for Gmail - I think I have to enable POP3 access to make that work. It's useless for my business email account which is why I bought the thing. I sent a very unpleasant email to my sales rep. We'll see what he says...

Posted by: earpon

Phone is nice but too many limitations which I pretty much appreciate. Phone is very simple and easy to use, great "day off from work" kind of phone.

Posted by: IMPEREAL

yeah i just got the phone and i was so excited about some of the software i was able to find till i got it and tried to install it....... very upset now..... why lock stuff like this out... i mean i do understand the need for blocking it but if you know how to do the stuff you should be allowed to install stuff on the phone you spent money on........

Posted by: tcidyy4030

thanks for the info ^_^

Posted by: tzsm98

Ravidavi has a script for S40 v2/v3 phones that allows a work around for T-Mobile's 3rd party software lockdown. Do a search using s40 v2/v3 and one of the top items returned will bring you to that thread.

if you have the newest firmware for rm-323 and rm-337 just flash the phone with the image from rm-337 and your phone will be unbrand. remember to backup your setting in the "settings" or you can't use your UMA after unbranding your phone. that will solve the problem with limitations ^^. and I am quite happy with what I got XD. BTW rm-337 is 6300i.

and this trick also works and any look alike phones like 6263 with 6267, 6085 with 6086. but don't mix around with mcusw and ppm or you can brick your phone in a awfully nice way like I did.

also don't update the phone though NSS since I don't know if that changed the product code to a 6300i which might cause a problem

FWIW, I have not heard of a single case of someone successfully flashing their 6263 with a 6267 firmware. Everyone that I know of that tried it, ended up bricking their phone. If you know of someone who's done it or can even point us to post of someone reporting success, I'd appreciate it and I'm sure others would too.

well like I say only the image part of it not the mcusw or the ppm. A firmware have 3 parts mcusw, ppm, and image. if you leave the mcusw and ppm unchange and only flashing with another image you can unbrand the phone. since most of the restrictions are in the user settings. so flashing image from other phone will not cause a problem.
you have to use a flashing program to do this job though
and what this does it only unbranding you can't change the language since its in the ppm.

I have tried flashing with ppm from 6267 to a 6263 after it turned on I would get a white screen with something blue I think its the background on the bottom corner of the screen and it will not respond at all. but you can always flash it back as long as the flashing did not corrupt or damage the written data, or you have to resolve though Fbus. which I don't have XD

btw when you normally flash your phone they will choose all 3 file for you depending on you product code you just need to change the image that it is going to flash. but as for unbranding I think 6263 do have one is unbrand so there is not such need to get an image from another phone unlike 6301 which only have fido and t-mobile right now.

and I am using a 6301b that is unbranded with image of 6300i. but having the image does not mean my phone became 6300i.

Posted by: corys00

I'm curious, did you just change your product code on your 6301b to the generic code of a 6300i and still maintained T-Mobile UMA support?

Posted by: Mogkupo

not sure nor did I went to check my product code was changed or not but you can only do this if you have flash programs. like phoenix or JAF

Do you know of a site with step by step instructions how to flash the 6301? I would really like to get the phone but only if it can be modded so 3rd party aps can work on it.

thanks

Posted by: mynameisflorian

Me too!!!

There aren't any updates available for 6301 yet, so changing the product code and updating via NSU won't de-brand it!

I've also tried and endless number of different resets; from power cycles, to in-phone resets, to every different reset that NSS offered. I sent the reset command (in NSS) and power cycled the phone after each request. The 2 user resets returned an error is NSS, so I didn't bother cycling my phone after that.

So, what software did you use to flash your phone? Did you use phoenix? Any tips so I don't "brick" my phone?

Thank You!
- Florian

PS - when you used the 6300i image did that allow your browser to access wi-fi, or was it still restricted to UMA? (UMA is the VOIP)

I heard that a new update will come out within the next two weeks, remains to be seen though.

I'm interested to know this too.

Posted by: Mogkupo

well it only debrands your phone nothing more your phone is still 6301b the firmware version you see if from the ppm and mcusw is probably where the wifi function lies so unless 6300i have a newer version coming out that is higher than 5.93 then I guess there is no way we can get wifi broswing. therefore you can only use UMA if you flash that image. but you have to back it up otherwise there is no setting for you to use the UMA.

Update for 6301? Any details?

Posted by: mynameisflorian

Success! My 6301b is now de-branded! Google maps, Yahoo go, and Opera Lite have been successfully tested.

Yay! I can play tribalwars on my phone now using opera lite! (http://tribalwars.net )

I used phoenix 2008 to flash my phone.

I ended up using the RM-323 images, replacing the content image with the one from the RM-322. Then I restored my setting in-phone. Now I just have have to figgure out how to get my 5-favs menu back...

note: The 6301b(US) is RM-323, while the 6301(europe) is RM-322.

Anybody have any ideas as to how I can get my 5-favs menu back?

[Guide] De-Branding the 6301b (T-Mobile)

I don't actually use windows at home, so I had to do this at work. I'll tell you as much as I can without looking at the screens.

First, you'll need to get:
- Phoenix 2008
- RM-323 firmware (2 install files)
- RM-322 firmware

Note: The 6301b(US) is RM-323, while the 6301(europe) is RM-322. The RM-323 firmware package only contains T-Mobile's locked-down version, that's why we're using the RM-322 firmware. Be careful, though -- we only want to replace the "content image" with the RM-322 version of the firmware.

*** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** ***
CAUTION!!!
Be very careful, this can kill your phone if you:
- don't use the right firmware
- replace the wrong firmware level
- unplug your phone while changing the firmware
- or do something else i haven't thought of yet
*** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** ***

All the information listed below this point is potentially incorrect. Tread with extreme caution (like I did). Double check everything before flashing. Make sure phoenix detected your phone correctly by having it pull up your phone's info.

1) Backup your phone to the flash card using the phone's menus. Remove the flash card before continuing!

2) Plug in your phone and put it in pc suite mode. If the battery isn't totally charged, plug that in too.

3) Create a new USB connection in phoenix (file menu)

4) Scan for the device (file menu)

5) Go into the flashing menu and choose the option to flash your phone (i think its one of the first 2 or 3). This option won't be available until phoenix has detected your phone (see steps 3-4)

5) Click on the [...] button to load the firmware files for your phone.

6) I don't remember if it's on this screen or if you have click on a button to get to this screen, but you're looking for 3 or 4 textboxes for the various firmwares that the phone uses. They will be files on your hard drive. Change the "content image" to the firmware file for the rm-322 "content image". There will be several options. I chose the first. The other ones may have restrictions just like T-Mobile.

7) Click on refurbish to flash the phone. This took about 10 min for me.

8) Restore your backed-up settings. This will restore UMA and t-zones.

Done!

You know you've been successful if when you turn on your phone you see the Nokia logo instead of T-Mobile's.

I have not had a chance to test UMA. I presume it works since t-zones does. If someone can verify this before I get a chance to, please let me know and I'll update this post.

If anyone knows how to get the 5-favs menu-thingie back, please let me know!

Special thanks to Mogkupo for helping me figure this out! Mogkupo; you rock!

Hope this helps!
- Florian

Thanks man, your da man! As soon as somebody confirms the UMA working I am all over this phone.

Posted by: goldschlager

yeah but how did you overcame the downgrading. My RM-323 is v05.88 and RM-322 only v04.61. Thank you.

the phone will stay as v5.93 if you change only the content image.(for fido 6301 phone if you want to flash 5.88 or 5.93 its up to you.)
you stay as 5.88 if you flash with fido mcusw and ppm.
if you have use flashing programs like phoenix or JAF you will know what we meant by just the content image.

when you flash a nokia phone there are 3 file being flash into it and they are
(these are the t-mobile branded 5.93 firmware)
1. rm323__05.93.mcusw <---- the main software like the OS
2. rm323__05.93.ppm_ntm <---- the language text and other stuff
3. rm323__05.93.image_n_tmobusa_v1 <---- user data(aka the t-mobile stuff), games , and also the restriction data.

changing just the file 3 can debrand the phone. since fido is also branded you have to get it from another firmware.

btw I have tried downgrading the ppm (the 2nd file) with fido and it works.(only the ppm) but it looks bad so I like to use the t-mobile ppm better, but if you use another lower version ones from rm-322 it will not work. I wondor does it only work with the same major packs.

the 1st file is subject to the downgrade restriction so if you even change to the fido one the phone will not work.

btw if you have java programs that it says unsupport you can unlock it by taking out the "Java TAK support" in phoenix in the "product profiles". but expect bugs when you run them though lol. so if it say does not work then you are out of luck since getting it to run would not be pretty either. therefore there is not much point on doing it.

PS what I really want to try is flashing the branded content image to other S40 phones I wondor if they will work if they have the same screen size XD
since I think the most important part that the phone needs to use are the themes that they come with other are just datas. then none t-mobile phones nokias phone can get myfave by branding their phone haha.

Btw the UMA works if you back up your setting, since I am using it right now.
And as for fido its the same you just need flash with the fido firmware 5.88 but with rm-322 content image.

need rm-323? go google "gsmfiles" took me 4 days to find rm-323 major pack
hope this would help since I found this the hardest to get my hand on.

Posted by: goldschlager

Mogkupo you made my day! thank you so much, and yes finding RM-323 v 1.00 was the hardest thing.

I feel such the noob right now.. I'm getting the following error when selecting the FPS-8C flash button.

Dongle Check: RD & Production features available
The component has not initialized properly or has reached an inoperational state
Possible reason: The COM ports are not defined correctly. Check the options.

go and check the options and I am getting errors...

Suggestions appreciated, PM if you need to.

TIA

Posted by: Moderator HF 25

^ Do you have the FPS-8C parallel flash prommer? If not, can't use this method to update your phone. Use "software update". instead of "flash".

Posted by: corys00

Thanks Mod25, your tip made me realize I needed to rename a file name in the rm-323 product directory. Thanks!

Edit:

Got Gmail app working and Opera Mini too... Finally, this phone does everything I could want it to do!

Posted by: Queenshawtii

I should be getting my phone today I will be trying this in the next few days.

Posted by: Queenshawtii

^i couldn't wait a few days. With some help from Corys00 i got opera mini and Google maps up and running.

Posted by: webgoof

I assume the opera, gmail, etc based off of network data transfer, not wifi access? Is there no way to configure the 6301 to allow you to use wifi as net access and not "voip"

Posted by: mynameisflorian

As I understand it, it will automatically use wifi for internet when available, but not directly. Basically, it routes your GPRS/EDGE traffic through your wi-fi connection instead of through T-Mobile's towers. So, you still need t-zones, but it will be a lot faster (at least it is for me!)

I'm about to debrand my 6301b. Which firmware should I use? 6301, 6300, or 6300i? What would I gain or loose by using each of those?

I have never used Phoenix before, so I want to ask questions before I screw up my brand new phone. What kind of dongle is the software looking for during installation? I have a USB cable to use for connectivity, and have the phone plugged in and "PC Suite" mode selected, but it doesn't detect it. Once I get Phoenix running, how do I back up the wifi/UMA settings and restore them when the debranding is complete? Is this done on the phone itself or in Phoenix?

I found how to get Phoenix 2008 to install without a dongle. I'm still unsure about how to back up those UMA settings though and which firmware I should pick. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That's correct. You get EDGE speeds through wifi. There's only slow GPRS coverage in my area, but when I'm on a wifi network it's totally EDGE!

from what I have read on the boards, to back up the UMA setting, you just need to use the backup feature that is on the phone itself...make sure the flash card is removed from the phone before flashing...then just restore the back up.

I just read this on hofo, i did not try this and nor do i take responisibility if anything bad happens.

Posted by: mynameisflorian

I used the firmware for the 6301(european). The only thing gained was a menu option for push to talk, which doesn't work.

Posted by: mynameisflorian

And, right, Save your settings to your memory card and remove it before flashing. It worked for me. Take a look at the step-by-step instructions I posed earlier in this thread...

Posted by: swmetallica

Thank you so so much to all who helped me with this. I now have my phone debranded and loving it! You guys are awesome!

Posted by: swmetallica

If anybody needs/wants the product pack to debrand this phone, PM me. With the help I received from corys00, this is a simple process! All you need is Phoenix 2007 or 2008 and the modified product pack for the 6301.

1) Backup your settings to the memory card using the "sync & backup" function in your phone's settings to save your personal data and UMA configuration.

2) Remove the memory card and make sure you have a full battery or plug in your phone so it can be charging.

3) Place the modified RM-323 directory in the Phoenix product directory

4) Open Phoenix, connect your phone, and go to File then Scan. Make sure your phone is detected.

5) Under Flashing, use the "firmware update" option. Click the "..." button next to product code to open the modified product pack. No changes need to be made as the product pack is already modified and ready to flash!

6) Use the refurbish option and your phone will be flashed and unbranded! Make sure the phone reboots, then you can replace the memory card and use the backup option in the settings menu on your phone to restore your files and settings.

Easy enough?

Posted by: webgoof

So what are the functional differences between the T-Mobile branded 6301, and the unbranded? I don't really dislike the menu system, though it'd be nice to re-program the t-zones (right softkey) button.

I am interested in de-branding my 6301, but I wanna make sure it's actually worth the risk for me...

Posted by: srue

In addition to debranding the 6301 using the 6300i image, has anyone tried to completely flash it to the 6300i firmware (changing the product number and using all the 6300i flash files, not just the image)? A lot of people seem to think they are the same hardware, other than the 6300i not having a 850 MHz option.

Can anyone confirm that this does or does not work? If it does brick the phone, can you unbrick it? I'm willing to try it with my phone but I want to make sure I can unbrick it if necessary.

Also, for those that debranded using the 6300i image, did it come with Nokia Maps and does it work?

Thanks

Posted by: billeater

Thanks to swmetallica for the help.

I had managed to debrand mine with the combination of rm322 and rm323 files, but it wasn't quite what I'd expected, no tmobile certs, wifi calls quit working, etc. Flashed it back to tmobile standard and it's working again. Giving his easier method a try now...

Posted by: Antenna

This may be a stupid question….but I’m curious. Can one back T-mobile’s UMA settings from the 6301 and load them onto an unlocked/unbranded wifi phone ex: Nokia e71? Has anyone tried it?

Posted by: mynameisflorian

that's weird. I de-branded mine with a 6301(a) image and everything works fine. T-zones, UMA(wi-fi calling) ... everything came back when I restored my settings from the flash card. You must've done something wrong or forgot something! I had to try 2 times before it worked because I screwed up the first time...

which rm-322 content image should I choose? The package I downloaded contains a bunch of content image files. I'm not sure which one I should choose.

Depends what language you want. Assuming you want English, I know for sure the C_UK version is the United Kingdom version, which would be in English. I assume the A, B, C, and I versions (with nothing else after them) are also in English. I'm not sure what is the difference between them. I would start with version I on the theory that higher letters are later revisions, but really I don't know.

The good news is it won't hurt your phone. If you try a version and it doesn't work right, just flash another one. Let us know which one you go with and how it worked out.

You could also try a 6300i image (RM-337), which might get Nokia Maps to work. Good luck.

http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=582486 This forum talks about how to get the software.

The version mentioned does all the work for you. Make sure you install it on a fresh system (no other Nokia software). I could only get it to work on Windows XP, but I didn't really try that hard in Vista.

The patch (fixer.exe) shows up as a generic trojan in some virus scanners, but I believe it's a false alarm due to the way it's written. I haven't seen any ill effects (mysterious programs loading, etc.) on my system.

Thanks. I actually flashed all the english versions. lol. all of them worked. but I didn't see a big difference between a, b, c and i tho. maybe I only played each version for only like 2,3 mins. oh, there is a ORA_UK one, it's from Orange in UK, I think. I chose i at the end for no special reason, hehe.

I don't think it would work. The UMA capability needs to be in the phone's firmware. The backup only saves your carrier's specific UMA settings so you can restore them after the firmware is modified. That's why you can't make a 6300i have UMA capabilities, and a 6301 have direct web access.

Wifi on a UMA phone is only good for UMA, not direct web browsing. If you try to connect to a wifi network on a phone with no SIM, it won't allow it. Web access is accomplished on a UMA phone by opening a packet data session through wifi, so you still need your carrier's web settings. I'd assume you'd be able to connect to the web directly on a 6300i since it's an actual wifi capable phone.

You are probably right! Oh well worth asking...wish Nokia wifi phones could work on H@H....

PS...how can you sell your Nokia 6103?

Ok I'm kinda lost here, I have phoenix 2008 and all that, where can i find the firmware to do this transition... and what will this now allow me to do? will my 8gb card now be fully useful and not just 3.4?

Posted by: Queenshawtii

Has anyone been having problems connecting to t-zones with Opera Mini lately? It seems it won't connect for me anymore.

Posted by: Queenshawtii

^ i figured out what the problem was my setting were set to T-zones instead of the lower case t-zones which were the settings that were saved with when i back-ed up the original phone (w/Wifi for UMA) Now my java apps are working fine

Thanks for the debranding info. I have been using my phone, debranded, for a couple of months now without issue. The other day I tried to flash back to stock but received a pop up box saying "Neither DP1.0 nor DP2.0 was found for the Product, or the Product cannot be identified. Only "Auto-detect" will be available." Any ideas? It appears the product code has/is changed and may in some way be the culprit.
update: I had to install a RM-322 data package, not from a zip file, but an exe.

Posted by: awes

Does the unbranded 6301 work only with the Tmobile @ home Wifi service? If not can you configure to use opera browser with a non Tmobile Wifi service ?

Posted by: norbi99

Got my 6301 yesterday and debranded it. Opera, gmaps work like a charm. What i can't figure out is the blue leds on the side of the phone.. when are they supposed to light up? Once I had it start flashing when i had a missed call, but could not reproduce it anymore... Did something get messed up during the re-flash?

Posted by: norbi99

Is there any way to keep the yahoo messenger application from the TMo firmware after de-branding, anyone know?

Posted by: Lubura

I have got my phone 6301b with Fido (firmware 5.88).Tried to debrand it: Made backup of settings and data to my PC.Used Phoenix 2008 to flash it with firmware from t-mobile (....idiot).Transfered backup back to the phone......Now I have T-Mobile branded phone with some t-mobile stuff that do not work through Fido service.Firmware on my Nokia 6301b now is 5.93 and wireless connection through my router does not work.(Trying to connect and .... some error message).Cannot change right navigation key (only left, no option to change right key).Cannot flash it back to Fido firmware with Phoenix 2008 (5.93 firmware higher than 5.88 - cannot flash it back). Using Phoenix 2008 with direct usb cable from comp to phone. If anyone who debranded this phone has custom firmware to debrand it-PLEASE-post it or send it to me.

Ok, I have Phoenix going and I do have the RM 323 installed into Phoenix. The RM 322 is only in separate files though. Do I copy them into the Phoenix folder?
Ideally I would like to the the European software for content (language support).
Any info is appreciated.

Thanks

You don't need to copy the rm-322 files anywhere. On the flash screen you have the options button, there you can change the content file that is going to be used. From there browse to the rm-322 file that you want to use.

I though there was an option in phoenix to allow sw downgrade, did you try that?
One thing I did when trying to re-brand the phone was that I copied the contents of the rm-323 folder to rm-322 under phoenix. (make a backup of rm-322) This allowed me to re-brand to the T-Mobile rm-323 version. All settings and uma worked fine.

Posted by: Lubura

I'm using Phoenix 2008. No other option but "Flashing/Prommer tool" will work to flash firmware. This is (I guess) because I'm using direct USB cable from phone to Computer. There is no option to "force" firmware to downgrade to 5.8 from 5.93.
I was just hoping that someone has modified firmware (5.93 or higher) that I can use and Debrand this phone from ANY logos and software from T-mobile.
Or to back firmware somehow to 5.8 and try with rm322 firmware (which is , i guess, also 5.8).
Any help , greatly apreciated.....

Posted by: Lubura

BTW - If anyone needs firmwares RM-323 (fido 5.8 or T-mobile 5.93) or Rm-322.
I spent 2 days and nights to find it .

Does anyone know which firmware the option "Tools/Image Download" in Phoenix 2008 downloads to temp folder of Phoenix ?
When I try to use this firmware phone goes to "TEST MODE" . What is "test mode" for and what is this firmware for ?

So why not re-flash with the t-mobile firmware but use a content file from the 322? This should give you a de-branded phone, and loading the setting should enable you to use uma with your provider...

Already tried. Saying " cannot flash sw -older than existing one" .
Dont know how to force flash ? No opton to force flash. 322 is 5.8 firmware.T-mobile is 5.93.

Posted by: norbi99

Dude, read again what I wrote.. or better yet look up Florian's guide a few pages back and follow it step by step. Just like myself and other people where able to debrand a T-mobile phone using ONLY THE CONTENT FILE from 322, you should be able to do the same.

Hi, I'm new I have a Fido branded 6301 and would like to unbrand it and unlock it. Does anyone already have the RM-322 pack so I can unbrand my phone.

Also if my phone gets unbranded and I use UMA at home with my ISP will I be charged via Fido for using it?

You are right and You are GENIUS. Thank you for making me read
To make it easier for other people (or more complicated):You HAVE to have all three files when you flash in Phoenix.
If you have v5.93 (t-mobile) or 5.8 (fido) -first file for flashing in Phoenix has to be original one for your phone (rm323__05.93.mcusw in my case)-main OS.
Second one -you can use from fido or t-mobile firmware (I have used one from fido rm323__05.88.ppm_n )-not sure what it is ?
Third one is most important to debrand your phone (contains restriction data for your phone) -Content file that you use from rm322 firmware -(I have used rm322__04.62.image_c_uk).
You cannot change just content image and leave first two blank (like I have tried to do).

Posted by: achilles.lives

Lubura thank you for making it extra clear now, Could you just direct me to these files please...And then I hope it works!

Cannot use that option for flashing if using direct USB cable (no dongle).
Use software flashing under Flashing/Prommer tool.

Thanks to everyone I got this working. Finally.
Now I only have to figure out how I get a different language pack on the phone. I was told by a Nokia Tech that this would only work with a hardflash of the phone (downgrade version to a 322). Guess I'll have to hold on to it as is, since I only have the USB cable. Funny as is, the tech told me I could send my phone to Nokia and they would just debrand it for me as well. Would like to know what T-Mob thinks of that. Well, hurray on Nokia

I really hate when people say "I have tried to google and there is nothing".
Next question is :"and now what ? "
READ THIS THREAD FROM THE FIRST PAGE !!!!!!
For all of you still trying to debrand this phone ,
here is something that might help: (Next time try Yahoo ) :

rm322 firmware http://rapidshare.com/files/7176082...-04.61.exe.html

T-mobile 6301b 5.93 http://rapidshare.com/files/1204260...-05.93.exe.html

Fido 6301b 5.88 http://rapidshare.com/files/1380522...0__sw-05.88.exe

ONLY remark is WiFi you are trying to use through wireless router is still chargable from your telephone company (Fido or T-mobile).
Can someone tell me are there some settings for WiFi in this phone to set for Fido or t-mobile (or somehow to avoid charges if you are using you router as access point) and how??????

There is no way to use 6301 over Wifi and not get charged for it. That is not how UMA works. T-Mobile has a $10/month addon you can get that gives you unlimited minutes when using your phone over WiFi.

Posted by: tzsm98

I was scratching my head wondering what they meant by "charged for it" since the whole idea is T-Mobile gives you free minutes to use UMA once you sign up for the unlimited HotSpot minutes. The "have to pay to sign up" is so fundamental to the way UMA is structured it never crossed my mind they were thinking of not having to sign up for it. Silly me.

Posted by: kenship

Thanks to you all! I downloaded the files and everything and I debranded my Fido 6301 successfully, it was a trial and error but at the end of the day I've got it done.

Now if only I can find a fw with Chinese character support...

Sounds like you did not install the hack for the software. Read the install instructions that came ( or should have) on how to install and hack the Phoenix software.

Thanx for the reply Norbi99. Would the instructions be in the folder with all the files that make up the phoenix software? Sorry.. a little slow here.

Ideally there should be a readme or .inf file that came with the install files you've downloaded.

Okay I will look for the readme file or.inf.

Hahaha . You are just starting with the frustration of all of us debranding this phone)))))))))
Depending on where you downloaded phoenix2008 - it will come with file "phoenixreg" which did not work for me. Phoenix "crack" is recognized by most antivirus programs as a virus -so it will be damaged or removed by your antivirus.Probably it is the virus or who knows what. You will be stuck here for looong time. It took me two days to figure out how to "patch" Phoenix 2008.
To make the story short : Look for "phoenix 2006-2008 fixer" on the internet .
Not easy to apply it . You have to start it -dont click on OK ! Start phoenix install -when asks for dongle - click cancel on phoenix -click OK on the patch program . You have to be fast doing this. Good luck....

P.S. For all of you who want to debrand this phone - pay $20 to people who do this in your city-do not do this by yourself ! Unless you are stuborn and want to see how it has been done "homemade".

Posted by: Phaedrus351

Okay, think I successfully unbranded. BUT, opera mini can't find the internet, email likewise. This is either connected tmobile or wifi. Calls work on UMA etc, how are you all making internet work?

after i de-branded my phone I had to restore my backup and change my wireless profile (or whatever it's called -- i don't have my phone on me right now)

you might have to call t-mobile and ask them to send you the correct data profile (or whatever it's called). I told them that I de-branded my phone and every person I talked to either didn't care or thought it was cool. I don't know how t-mobile feels about, though. I would imagine they like it since they no longer have to support your phone. Either way I had a senior tech support manager (or something, I'm pretty sure I made it to the top) tell me that I would have to "hack" my phone to get it to allow unsigned java application out to the internet. So, I imagine they're ok with it as long as you don't come crying back to them when you screw up your phone ;-)

I think there's a website out there (it's technically not at t-mobile.com, but they have a link somewhere to that site) that allows you to send the different "internet profiles" to your phone.

Ok v1.0 is the Fido file. So I was able to successfully debrand the phone. I like it a whole lot better. I had no problems installing Phoenix and no dongle issues.

I restored the backup I made and everything works great. One thing that is not working though is the GMAIL app that was on the phone before is not there anymore. Before I debranded I was able to check my gmail but now when i try to go to gmail.com/app from my phone tmobile page comes up and says I need subscription. Before I debranded I was able to check it out without any type of subscription or problems.

any insight?

Hmmmm...well like mynameisflorian stated in the post above, your connection problem probably has something to do with your "internet profile". Im having the same problem as well. I dont know how to fix it but this is what I am going to do: 1) Call T-Mobile and tell em that after I reset my phone to factory settings my t-zones stopped working and is saying I have no connection to the network/internet. 2) If that doesnt get it working I will search the net for a site that provides internet profiles for mobile phones.

I will post the outcome of each attempt here. Hopefully it will be of some help.

If your using T-Mobile like me you can use this link to send the wap settings to your phone. http://tmobileusotw.wdsglobal.com/

Thanks for the info. Quick but maybe stupid question irie_dragon. In order to connect to T-mobiles Network(web/data) do block access so you have to have a data plan like 50/100 MB? Or can you still access the Network, but for a charge of ??? per MB? I dont want to call cust svc and be put on hold.

Posted by: Phaedrus351

Thanks to everyone on here. I've de-branded and re-branded, then took it back. Learned a lot and didn't brick it yet, which makes the exercise good even if the functionality wasn't better, and it is. FWIW, I couldn't have re-branded with the copy of Phoenix I had without using TNTenforcer, it made the "Refurb..." button usable with the de-branded phone, going back to rm323.

To my knowledge Tmobile, USA, does not offer a per MB data. You have to have a data package of some kind.

p.s I wish nokia made the battery life a hour or two better.

They do now. For non-smartphones like the 6301, you have a choice of a data plan with 50 or 100 MB caps. It's called "Web2Go."

I put a torrent on the pirate bay. It has phoenix 2008, the rm-322 and m323 firmware images (yes, all the files). Just search for "nokia 6301" or locate torrent #4589221. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the url...

BTW, it does have a virus (I couldn't find one w/o the virus). Install it in a virtual machine to protect yourself. You should be able to pass-through the USB connection... If you're feeling riskay, you could install it on your system and run house-call; it's up to you (I recommend using a virtual machine)

Here is something I have found for WAP settings for FIDO to make your internet work :

1.Go into Menu/Settings /Configuration /Personal configuration settings. You will now be under something called Personal Accounts.Delete everything you have there (unless you added something with purpose there) select "Options"/"Add new" then select "Web" then press OK.
*Account name- Key in "Fido WAP" (or whatever you want to call it).
*Homepage and key in "http://wap.fido.ca".
*Leave User name and password empty.
*DISABLE "Use pref.access pt" - this will enable "Access point settings" bellow.
*Access point settings is now accessible- Use these settings:
-Proxy-enabled
-Proxy address-prox1.fido.ca
-Proxy port - 8080
-Data bearer -packed data
*Bearer settings-Use these settings:
-Packed data acc.pt. - wap.fido.ca
Leave all the rest as it is. Go O.K. to confirm saving settings.....
Now two things to finish :
1. Enable (say YES to "Use pref.access pt")
2. Go again into Menu/Settings /Configuration and select "Default config sett."
Procedure should be the same for T-Mobile (with different settings ofcourse).

P.S.
I have asked a month ago : "If I`m connecting to my router at home - why pay to talk , or why pay to use internet on my phone? - CAN SOMEONE TRY TO FIND SETTINGS FOR THIS? "

Also - If anyone could say how to do settings for e-mail - that would save me a lot of time (i guess)?

By the way , I cannot access smileys when typing message on my phone (freezes completely) ????

Hello, after reading this thread, I'm still a bit confused about the data side of things.

If I debrand my 6301, will I be able to do web/internet connections over any WiFi link? Or does only voice go over the Wifi link, and I'll still get charged for data by T-mobile?

I don't quite understand if the voice-only over WiFi is a T-mobile restriction (that would be removed by debranding) or if this is a more basic limitation of the phone itself.

If you debrand your phone -
You will not be able to search the internet - you will have to manualy do the settings on your phone for T-mobile. (I did not hear of anyone who saved these settings and then put them back on the phone after debranding).
Maybe I'm wrong !?
Voice will be O.K.
In any direction you go - you will still have to pay for Voice/Data.
For example - If you reformat Windows on your computer - Your e-mail will not work .You will have to enter the settings from your service provider- e-mail (SMTP and POP). Same thing with the phone.....

DOES ANYONE HAVE ORIGINAL PRODUCT CODE FROM NOKIA FOR THIS PHONE 6301b (Number beginning 05xxxxx -Found under battery)?

I used phoenix 2008 to flash my phone.

I ended up using the RM-323 images, replacing the content image with the one from the RM-322. Then I restored my setting in-phone. Now I just have have to figgure out how to get my 5-favs menu back...

note: The 6301b(US) is RM-323, while the 6301(europe) is RM-322.

Anybody have any ideas as to how I can get my 5-favs menu back?

Key words: de-brand debrand nokia 6301 6301b

So help me How to install this firmware on my 6301b? What's mean flash 6301b? help me please also what i gonna use? (USB or something)

I went to the FCC product images hoping to be able to the read the code on the label but the photo was not of a quality to allow that. The label image they have separately has 0123456 for the code, I'm willing to bet that isn't it.

I have to wonder if there is an original product code for the 6301b. Fido and T-Mobile seem to be the only way of acquiring the device. The Nokia website doesn't sell it. Isn't the reason folks are having to use RM-322 images to debrand is because there are no known RM-323 generic images?

I have never used Phoenix before, so I want to ask questions before I screw up my brand new phone. What kind of dongle is the software looking for during installation? I have a USB cable to use for connectivity, and have the phone plugged in and "PC Suite" mode selected, but it doesn't detect it. So help me i have a same problem where can i donwload Phoenix2008?

Posted by: loopdokter

Can anyone who has unbranded their 6301 that's with Fido please confirm that in doing so, it allows you to access POP email settings (provided you've recovered the appropriate WAP settings for Fido) and allows you to use your own ringtones instead of the crappy ones on the phone?

Thanks!

Hi everybody -- I'm giving this the good college try and I'm getting stuck because (?) the anti-virus program on my computer is preventing me from unzipping the phoenix 2006-2008 fixer. I think I just need to do this from a computer that doesn't have anti-virus running on it because I can't seem to shut it down the anti virus on this managed computer running XP.

Also, I tried to follow the directions for using Phoenix but I kept getting confused because the directions say things like "choose the option to flash your phone (i think its one of the first 2 or 3)" but then I can't figure out exactly which menu option to choose since the directions are not clear.

Is anybody in Washington DC available to help me free my phone so I can install and use Java apps like Gmail?

Yeah the fixer came up with a virus warning for me as well. Not sure if it is really a virus but I decided to install is on an old laptop with no internet connection and no sensible data on it.
Once you have the software up and running that's when you should try following the instructions. I can't recall which menu had the flash option but there aren't that many menu items, you can go trough them.

good luck

Sorry for the confusion here. But if I understand it correctly, even after the de-branding I will not be able to use this phone with my regular wifi connection to check the web through mini opera or google maps.

I do not have any data plans with t-mobile. Just their voice plan. Basically what I wanted with this phone is to be able to have access to the web (internet, google maps, gmail, and messenger) when I have access to an available wifi connection. Is this not possible without getting a data plan?

Thanks

I have a question for everybody . Did someone manage to convert 6301 in to a full 6300i. I did try to do it but the application gave me an error message during the flash and i was not able to flash it . What i did i just renamed all the rm-337 system files to rm-323 and move them to the rm-323 folder. The programme started the update but it stop in the middle i guess it did eventually recognise that it was different software. I assume that it is possible to force it some how to continue but i was scared to do it. I am willing to experiment but i don't know what else to do . I was using the refurbish option from the flashing menu ( foenix 2008). My goal was to be able to use the wifi for Internet on the phone without going true the Fido gateway and getting charged for it .

I doubt it is possible to do what you are trying. There are hardware differences between the 6301 and 6300i because UMA requires some specific hardware features to be able to switch from WiFi to GSM network without dropping the call.

Posted by: Xakinnaples

Hey is there anyway that you can send me the program and the files that you used? I have having a ***** of a time finding the programs and the Firmware..
Thanks..

So frustrating, with no wifi, the 6301 is just like any other cheap phone. I know it has decent reception, FM and some other features but it is outrageous that Fido has this phone for a 2 year contract + $50. I will have to seriously get a phone that lets me do real VOIP... 15 dollars for UNO in a cellphone that won't even let me login in most hotspots is just useless!

I do believe you are right about this. Anyway ,there will be new model of this phone coming soon ( I believe model 6305 ) which will be almost the same as 6301.
If I could get firmware for this 6305 , will flash 6301 with it and see what will hapen.
For everibody - here is the site with firmwares for B5 Phones (if you need it)
There is new firmware V9 for 6301 (RM-322)-Euro version.

Lubura, are there any specific changes in the new euro firmware? I guess it won't do much and we will still be stock with the same old issues

I want discover something a while ago And i was not sure if it is appropriate to post but i guess why not. If you have a 6301 from fido and you back up your setting from the phone to the memory card and then update the phone software with a modified firmware where you use a the applications from a nokia 6300i (rm-377) you can get the phone unlocked on a strange new way.
If you want to use fido uno service you must buy a packet from fido that will allow you to connect via wifi. But if you update the phone with software pack from rm-377 (6300i ) and then restore your setting from the memory card you will be able to do it any way. What i mean is that you no longer have to sign up for fido uno service it will work with out buying the packet. But it will charge you on your montly bill as regular minutes. It worked for me . I waited for about a month before i post this because i wanted to see my bill. I have unlimited local calling plan so the minutes are not a problem. I must add something if you use any data when you are connected via wifi it will show on your bill as normal and you have to pay for it . Non of this information is 100 % accurate because i have tested it only on 1 phone.

I was able to connect to my home router with original firware on my phone from fido . Actually I have had it unlocked right away.It did not make diference connecting to router and using your minutes , or not connecting to router wifi and using phone network. They will still charge you for the minutes. The point of connecting to you router wifi is if you have bad reception (living somewhere far far away in the woods ).
After debranding the phone I'm not able to connect to ANY wifi network, phone freezes if trying to use in text messaging .....

Just use a fido software and change the application data with a generic application data from europe. You can use rm337 aplication data. And don't forget to back up and restore the settings. In order to do this you have to rename the generic application data with the fido orinal application data name. And replace it in the products folder of phoenix.

What do you mean by fido software - mcusw or ppm_i ?
App data - image_i ?
Generic application data - rm322 generic image ?

how is your GSM provider?

Posted by: StrungOutX

Hi all, pretty new here.

Could anyone confirm that they have debranded their 6301 by changing their product code and updating through Nokia Software Updater?

I've tried 3-4 of the codes Lubura posted (thanks btw) but each time NSU has said my operator has not approved the update.

Any thoughts? Will I have to download the ppm, mcu, image and flash the update onto the phone myself?

Thanks

Ok so you lost the settings for the fido uno . You can call fido and ask them for the settings just tell them that you have 6301 and you lost the the settings. They must have them . If not i will try to get them from my phone and then you can use restore them back to your phone. If you have an access to a non moded nokia 6301 what you must do is just go and back up only the settings swap the memory cards and restore them to the moded phone.

Posted by: amihov

This is my back up it contains only the settings .You can try it and see if it will work for you . Copy the file to your memory card folder name(Backup files) . The file has a zip extention but it is a rar file i had to change the extention in order to uploaded it to the forum. Change it back to rar before extracting the file.

PTT - push to talk, a two way radio type of feature.

I used this file as you said. It added "fido uno" under wi-fi. I just needed to activate it under "wi-fi call settings". Now wi-fi with router works.
Thank you amihov

Posted by: amihov

No problem. Push to talk is a service that is not working with fido. It is similar to mike phones with telus .I haven't heart to be used by any GSM provider in North America. Only telus is using it with the Mike phones. Basicly a company will be able to talk for free with short message between all the users on the same account. That was replaced in Rogers and Fido by the family plan in general consumer and by other shared plans in business accounts. With push to talk you can't have a normal conversation . Only one person can talk at the time.

Did you actually try to do this? I set my code to 0557400 and I got a bunch of stuff for Orange ( the UK carrier). I was not able to connect to wifi network even after restoring the settings I've backed up before. I am reflashing now using Phoenix. Not sure how it is going to work out because there are a bunch of files to choose from, I choose the first of each _a.
One thing I've noticed with the new firmware under the Wifi menu you could set the connection preference : WiFi prefered, WiFi only, WiFi off. This change only makes me want to upgrade because it can come in handy when traveling and you want to make sure you do not jump from a wifi to a roaming gms network.

So far so good!!!!

This is what happened: flashed using Phoenix files

rm322_09.40.mcusw
rm322_09.40.ppm_a
rm322_09.40.image_a

restored settings and everything was peachy! WiFi only setting was there I could connect to WiFi and make UMA calls. I went ahead and restored everything else ( contacts, messages, apps). The password for my home WiFi got messed up and it would not connect, but once I deleted and re-entered the password, it connected no problem.
Woot!! I am so happy.

Update!

For some reason if I disconnect from my WiFi and try to reconnect it will not work. Last night I thought it was an issue with the password but that is not the case.
Other then that I think the battery life is has improved somewhat... but I can't confirm that: charged to full last night, all night on WiFi/UMA and in the morning it was still showing full battery. Should be able to confirm this in a few days.

The NSS I have has options where you can give it the updated software files and flash the phone.. Did anyone try that? It might be easier to install & use then Phoenix.

So: you found this forum somehow, created an ID clicked on the first thread and posted away... Doing a quick search you could have seen there are a few threads dealing with the Nokia 5300 and I am sure at least one of them already has the answer to your question. But if you can't figure this much out, I think you might be better of paying somebody $20 to fix your phone...

Posted by: norbi99

After a long and painful process I managed to downgrade my phone to the original T-Mobile firmware but the WiFi connection issue is still there. Now it also gives me an error code: J0011.7 . This has something to do with some sort of certificate, called T-Mobile, waiting to hear back from them.

Posted by: caffein

I debranded my phone with the procedure on p2 and it worked beautifully. Don't use the WIFI connection at all, so I can't comment on UMA, but I did notice that the LEDs on the side don't seem to work at all.

I know that they are controlled by the 'light effects' setting under profiles, but it doesn't seem to work.

Anyone else noticed this? If this is the only problem, I'll likely just lump it and stick to what I've got since it is SO MUCH BETTER than the tmobile stock firmware, but it would be cute to get this working.

The lights work fine for me. The only thing that does not work for me is the WiFi in v9.40. I am guessing the error code is J0011.7, but this version does not give out the codes anymore, only a message. This is kind of a dealbreaker for me, I am going back to the previous version if I can't get it to work.
Is WiFi/UMA working fine for anyone else with T-mobile & v09.40?

thanks

Same thing happened to me when flashed it to t-mobile v5. (Im with Fido) .do not remember exact error message.
Ask someone with backup settings for t-mobile (only settings) that works with wi-fi to post it on forum or send it to you.It does not matter which firmware is it on as log as it works.

One thing you should try - Go under "wi-fi call settings". See is there anything about T-mobile ........ to activate it.

Posted by: norbi99

I already activated the t-mo config under the WiFi call settings but no luck.
At his point I guess I could try using somebody a config from somebody else, but I doubt it will work. I have my backups going back to the original t-mo FW and none of them worked...

Can anyone here who is with t-mo USA send me their backup file that contains only the settings?

thanks

Just an FYI

Updating a T-Mo 6301 to FW v9.40 will cause the WiFi not to connect anymore. Form what I've found so far, I believe it is because the way T-Mobile authenticates the phone once you try to connect via WiFi. This would also explain why it works with FiDo. If this turns out to be true there is no way to use the updated firmware on T-Mo phones until they decide to allow that.

If you've been with T-Mobile for more then a few months you can just call them and they will send you the unlock code for your phone.

Ok, I flashed my Nokia 6301 like it says in the tutorial at the beginning, I'm using Fido, and nothing changed....I can't put mp3 as ringtones and wifi cannot connect, it says W006.7 Error...anything I'm doing wrong?

btw: the torrent that someone posted on pirate bay for the nokia 6301 tools get stuck at 99.9% can someone upload the last %?

Thanks

I flashed with the RM-323 Tmobile SW v.5.93, it works but when I connect to internet I use the G instead of E...I tried to go back with SW v5.88 of Fido but it tells me -- Flash: Phone reported that it does not allow to flash SW becasue it is older than existing.

Can someone help with this? Thanks

nevermind got everything worked out, followed Lubura steps, now it's just that the icons are screwed up

I flashed mine quite some time ago (see p3 of this thread) and the lights work fine for me... they're under the light effects within the custom profile settings...

Just wanted to say thank you!

The only issue I had was the USB connection kept timing out before I could select my new image. Finally I figured it out.

Thanks to all who helped!

I have T-Mobile, and have unlimited messaging and T-zones access, but no data otherwise, however, I have discovered that I can access many websites through the nokia version of the t-zones app and it doesn't charge as data access on the bill.

Hi everyone,
I got my 6301 today (signed a new 2-year contract with T-Mobile), and after turning it on... went directly here to figure out how the heck to undo the damage that T-mobile has done to it.
My old Nokia from At&T did not have this many things locked down, like I could totally program the right-selection key to whatever I needed to.. unlike 't-zones' which you can't undo
Also, At&T did NOT lock the java apps, so I had Gmail working on it just fine...
now, with this 6103 phone...
argh!

However...after reading this entire thread carefully form the beginning, I still don't see the advantage of flashing the the hardware, someone asked the same question, I didn't see a response to it, but later on, the same person said that he did flash his phone..
so, what exactly will this give me?

Ability to change 't-zones' right-selection key to whatever I need? (like camera key, 'cause it doesn't have a button for the camera)
Allow Java apps, like Gmail's email app?
what else?
(and yes, hopefully it flashing it will keep ability to use UMS for wi-fi voice phone calls, otherwise I'd be over my minutes limit pretty fast, since I do use it at home at lot)

no, I won't be asking if this flashing it will allow me to use it as a free wi-fi for internet - that one's an obvious NO

Also, if I want to also unlock this phone (so I can stick my husband's At&T SIM card in there, if I ever need to) by calling T-mobile reps in a few months, will a 'flashed' phone still be 'unlockable'? In other words, I hope that unbranding (flashing) the phone using methods described in this thread will not make this phone permanently stuck to T-Mobile network..

Or, should I first wait a few month, call T-mobile, get it unlocked and then try to flash it and unbrand it?

thanks,
Sofia

One of the biggest reasons people unbrand their phones is to get rid of the java app lock. Once you unbrand it, you can install gmail, gmaps, opera and have it working as long as you have some sort of data plan. For me it was also a big plus that it got rid of the ugly T-Mobile icons. If you do it right and stay with the NA firware and only change the content file you will be able to use UMA without issues. Getting a code from T-Mobile to remove the sim restrictions should also work on a unbranded phone. ( I just did that with my wife's 7510 that is flashed with e EU firmware). One thing I am still trying to figure out is how to get an full EU firmware to work with UMA on T-Mobile. ( Apparently it works fine in Canada). The EU firmware has a nice feature where you can set the phone to WiFi only, so if you are abroad making an UMA call you would not have to worry about the phone switching to the GSM network and you getting charged with the ridiculous international roaming charges.
hope this answers your questions
good luck

thanks, this answered my question...
now, I'm a bit afraid to 'brick' my phone, I've never flashed one before, and since I just signed up for a contract, I don't want to kill this phone and then be stuck getting another one off ebay...

has anyone used Nokia Service Centers? I guess (from nokia's website) they make you send in your phone for repairs, will they unbrand a phone? If so, how much might they charge?
(Since I got this phone for free plus $50 credit from letstalk.com, I have some spare change to unbrand it...)

Posted by: norbi99

not sure what letstalk.com-s warranty plan is, I got my phone from T-Mobile and when I bricked it called them up and they send me an other one.. ( of course they did not need to know all the details of what happened to the phone :-) ) By the time I got the other phone I managed to unbrick the original one, so I ended up sending the package back anyway.

If you are careful and follow the instructions the chances of bricking the phone are minimal.

thanks, I might just try it...
I mean, I did replace the broken LCD screen on my husband's 6155 to the new LCD on the replacement phone and back, using household instruments like cuticle cutters and tweezers without killing either of the phones, so...
maybe flashing a phone won't be that bad

Yes, sound like flashing the phone will be a piece of cake for you! You don't even need to take it apart.. Have fun.

I am desperate to get my T-Mobile Nokia 6301b unbranded.

I used the official Nokia Software Updater; to flash it with RM-322 but it think I trashed the original software on the phone (which was RM-323). During flashing it said in 5 steps: “Unable to connect to the phone please unplug it, take out the battery and then put it back together and turn the phone on”, After doing this I selected the “Retry” button on the screen. For 2 hours it was saying 15 minutes to go, however nothing happened.

Now the phone is dead, it will light up with a black screen and I can not power it down with the power button. (Do you guys call that dead?)
I tried to use Nemesis and Phoenix but they also can not connect to it.

What to do here?
I have installed Phoenix but it can not scan the product code itself.
(In phoenix this should not be a problem because you should be able to select the product manually)

When I try to manually open the product (select: File-> Open product), it can not find the selected product. I selected several products: RM-337 or RM-322 or RM-323.

I did downloaded these products with: Tools -> Image File download.
I downloaded codes:
0557512 (RM-323)
0557400 (RM-322)
0559381 (RM-337) 05.6

Once I am able to select a product it should open the menu options for flashing by USB.
I am hoping that I then can try to flash and repair my phone.
However I have still no success with opening any product.

Please Help!

First, thanks for all the helpful instructions and advice on this thread. After reading through the whole thing, I was able to flash my phone first with the previously mentioned versions (RM-323 v 05.93 along with RM-322 v 04.61 content image).

Then I thought I'd try upgrading to the latest T-Mo version of RM-323 (version 08.22). Nokia Software Updater wouldn't do it until I had removed the RM-322 content image and restored it back to RM-323. Maybe the product code or something wasn't matching. After that, I got the whole thing up to T-Mo RM-323 v 08.22

Then I found the latest RM-322 is at version 9.40. I figured what the hell, and I tried using the image content file from that, flashing with

rm323__08.22.mcusw
rm323__08.22.ppm_ntm
rm322__09.40.image_a

I got the 8.22 files by searching my hard drive after the Nokia Software Updater update for files added that day. I got the 9.40 image off the web.

I did the flash using "firmware update", as I only have a USB cable. No problems. I don't currently have wifi at my house, so I haven't yet tested everything, but on a first once-over, everything looks pretty much identical to the combo described earlier in the thread (RM-323 v 5.93 with RM-322 v 4.61)

Just fyi.

Also, incidentally, I did all this on a mac, using Virtualbox running WinXP.

Thanks again for all the info.

so if i follow the instructions on page 2 will i be fine? or what other pages do i need to follow

radio streaming ?
not sure where to ask this question.. and I have yet to flash my phone - (just need to find time, already have all components downloaded)..
so, when I unbrand it and java is once again available to me - ... I just had this idea.. why not listen to some internet radiostations (mainly the ones broadcasting through shoutcast) through the phone?

I'm assuming some data plan from T-Mobile would be required, what else?
Some software (free, hopefully) that will connect with the streams?
Or will the fact that T-mobile does not offer 3G speeds render this idea useless? Or does t-Mobile not offer any 'unlimited data' plans?

Posted by: beebo724

hello all, i have successfully debranded my T-Mobile 6301b and am able to use both the WiFi at my own home and use Opera, Google Maps, Yahoo Go!, whenever there is actually service. All this of course using the backup/restore option on the phone and the Proxy settings from this thread.

Some things I have noticed include:
-The phone does not recognize my wired headset. For radio or call use. Anyone else have this issue? This one I really would like to find a fix for.
-The Instant Messaging options (AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo) are gone, not that I really care but it is not on the unbranded image. If there is a way to get those back it would be nice, but not important.
-Additional menu item of PTT, not used but its there.
-Some of your themes will be gone...and I can now edit my right soft key button!

Anyone had any problems with the 9.40 upgrade and WiFi????

Does anyone knows if its possible to unbrand this phone via NSS? Since i dont know why, but pheonix doesnt run on my pc.

Please help,
i dont need the TMobile software since i use this phone on a different carrier...

tnx

Try changing the product code with NSS to a Euro code and use nokia firmware upgrader. That might do the trick.

-I had pretty much all NAM and EU firmwares available on my phone and none of them had issues detecting my headset. Try cleaning out the put in the phone, if someting ( paper, dirt) gets in there that might cause connection problems. Or try a different headset.
- The IM software is gone, I could not find a way to install it on a debranded phone. There is a yahoo messenger software out there called YMTiny, but it does not support wap/http connectivity yet.

norbi99, thanks i tried it again, semi cleaned it, moved the headset plug around and it worked, so fixed. Yea YMTiny does not work on it, i too tried it.

Anyone debrand using the latest upgrade and find any extra quirks? The combination of 9.40 and 8.22? I would like to do it but if the WiFi is wiped out it wouldnt be worth it. And im not sure if you can downgrade back to the 5.93 and 4.61 combinations

I'm using the combo of 9.40 and 8.22 (8.22 content image) and the WiFi works. It's flaky at times— I get 006.1 and 006.3 errors now and then, can't always connect— but I think that has more to do with T-Mobile UMA service than the phone. My first UMA capable phone and I didn't really test its wifi before I flashed it, so I can't compare then vs. now. I also don't have @home so I can't comment on how that works, but I believe as long as you have the 8.22 content image and you haven't lost your T-Mobile certificates along the way thru flashing, you should still be able to access wifi.

I have the latest update with the 8.22 content, but there is no noticeable difference I can think of. UMA works just like it did before, some time it disconnects from WiFi without reason. Battery life is still crappy ( 24 hours with Wifi radio on light to moderate use, about 48 hours with Wifi off same type of usage.)

Posted by: james2432

anyone know where I can find the firmware? I have the 6301b with fido
I have the v5.88 with RM-323

Posted by: robtim

You can google it or install Phoenix 2008 then go to Tools -> Image file download
0557512 = RM-323 SW v 8.22
0551774 = RM-322 SW v 9.40
The SW version is also important.
The phone will never accept a lower version number, no matther which RM product. So you can not go back to RM323 once RM322 is loaded

Posted by: james2432

So if I unbrand my phone using RM-323 and a part of RM-322 I cannot re-brand it, correct? I'm just wondering because I just got the phone and am worried about the warrenty(already had 1 nokia die on me)

I also found the 5.88 by looking through the thread (Page 6)

Posted by: robtim

Other way arround, once you are on 322 you cannot go back. Someone wrote you can with other software.

If I was afraid of trashing the phone I would not do it at all.
