I have never used Phoenix before, so I want to ask questions before I screw up my brand new phone. What kind of dongle is the software looking for during installation? I have a USB cable to use for connectivity, and have the phone plugged in and "PC Suite" mode selected, but it doesn't detect it. Once I get Phoenix running, how do I back up the wifi/UMA settings and restore them when the debranding is complete? Is this done on the phone itself or in Phoenix? |

The good news is it won't hurt your phone. If you try a version and it doesn't work right, just flash another one. Let us know which one you go with and how it worked out. You could also try a 6300i image (RM-337), which might get Nokia Maps to work. Good luck. |

The version mentioned does all the work for you. Make sure you install it on a fresh system (no other Nokia software). I could only get it to work on Windows XP, but I didn't really try that hard in Vista. The patch (fixer.exe) shows up as a generic trojan in some virus scanners, but I believe it's a false alarm due to the way it's written. I haven't seen any ill effects (mysterious programs loading, etc.) on my system. |

Wifi on a UMA phone is only good for UMA, not direct web browsing. If you try to connect to a wifi network on a phone with no SIM, it won't allow it. Web access is accomplished on a UMA phone by opening a packet data session through wifi, so you still need your carrier's web settings. I'd assume you'd be able to connect to the web directly on a 6300i since it's an actual wifi capable phone. |
Opera, gmaps work like a charm. What i can't figure out is the blue leds on the side of the phone.. when are they supposed to light up? Once I had it start flashing when i had a missed call, but could not reproduce it anymore... Did something get messed up during the re-flash?

Can someone tell me are there some settings for WiFi in this phone to set for Fido or t-mobile (or somehow to avoid charges if you are using you router as access point) and how?????? ![]() |
wondering what they meant by "charged for it" since the whole idea is T-Mobile gives you free minutes to use UMA once you sign up for the unlimited HotSpot minutes. The "have to pay to sign up" is so fundamental to the way UMA is structured it never crossed my mind they were thinking of not having to sign up for it.
Silly me.

I don't quite understand if the voice-only over WiFi is a T-mobile restriction (that would be removed by debranding) or if this is a more basic limitation of the phone itself. |

I guess (from nokia's website) they make you send in your phone for repairs, will they unbrand a phone? If so, how much might they charge? (Since I got this phone for free plus $50 credit from letstalk.com, I have some spare change to unbrand it...) |
without killing either of the phones, so...|

If you are careful and follow the instructions the chances of bricking the phone are minimal. |

I mean, I did replace the broken LCD screen on my husband's 6155 to the new LCD on the replacement phone and back, using household instruments like cuticle cutters and tweezers without killing either of the phones, so...maybe flashing a phone won't be that bad |
You don't even need to take it apart.. Have fun.

1) ....... Easy enough? |

I used the official Nokia Software Updater; to flash it with RM-322 but it think I trashed the original software on the phone (which was RM-323). During flashing it said in 5 steps: “Unable to connect to the phone please unplug it, take out the battery and then put it back together and turn the phone on”, After doing this I selected the “Retry” button on the screen. For 2 hours it was saying 15 minutes to go, however nothing happened. Now the phone is dead, it will light up with a black screen and I can not power it down with the power button. (Do you guys call that dead?) I tried to use Nemesis and Phoenix but they also can not connect to it. What to do here? I have installed Phoenix but it can not scan the product code itself. (In phoenix this should not be a problem because you should be able to select the product manually) When I try to manually open the product (select: File-> Open product), it can not find the selected product. I selected several products: RM-337 or RM-322 or RM-323. I did downloaded these products with: Tools -> Image File download. I downloaded codes: 0557512 (RM-323) 0557400 (RM-322) 0559381 (RM-337) 05.6 Once I am able to select a product it should open the menu options for flashing by USB. I am hoping that I then can try to flash and repair my phone. However I have still no success with opening any product. Please Help! T-Mobile branded Nokia 6301b Product code: 0557512 HW Version: 1500 Manufacture Month: 55.13360 Thanks For product lists see: http://www.cellomania.com/wp/?p=147 |

Some things I have noticed include: -The phone does not recognize my wired headset. For radio or call use. Anyone else have this issue? This one I really would like to find a fix for. -The Instant Messaging options (AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo) are gone, not that I really care but it is not on the unbranded image. If there is a way to get those back it would be nice, but not important. -Additional menu item of PTT, not used but its there. -Some of your themes will be gone...and I can now edit my right soft key button! Anyone had any problems with the 9.40 upgrade and WiFi???? |
