Nokia 6301 java app fix?

So if I flash content with 322 I can't revert to the 323 because the v. number in 322 is higher(basically making re-branding virtually impossible) even though the rest is 323

It is doable, but not with Phoenix. I used a software called JAF and was able to de-brand and re-brand from any version to any version. When you select the downgrade option the software does come up with a warning that the phone will be bricked, but it worked fine for me. Try at your own risk..

Hey Norbi , long time no word on this phone
Here is something to think about :
Firmware on my phone is 9.40 rm-322. In Canada works like charm. This phone was useless on my trip to Europe ! Randomly catching ANY signal on different spots and locations. I guess something wrong with the band ??? I looked funny in front of the other people - after all this debranding idea - LOL.
Any other ****** phone worked in the "bunker" with no problem .
Anyone has any idea which file is for the band and what do you think I should try ?

Is there newer version of this phone released ?

Posted by: norbi99

I do not think there are different files for different bands. I never got a chance to try out my un-branded 6301 over in Europe, but my wife-s unrbanded nokia 7510 worked fine. (picking up the gms signal that is... I've nuked the wifi option out of it and could not fix it yet since there is no never fw out there)
I already gave up on the 6301, I am getting a blackberry 8900 soon. I am moving to Europe shortly and being able to set the phone to Wifi only is crucial.

Also, it sounds like you are already back, how would you try anything since it works fine over here, right?

Can anyone help me with this? I need the Backup settings for T-mobile, so i can use Wi-Fi/UMA calling again...

Form what I've found so far, I believe it is because the way T-Mobile authenticates the phone once you try to connect via WiFi. This would also explain why it works with FiDo. If this turns out to be true there is no way to use the updated firmware on T-Mo phones until they decide to allow that.

This is exaclty what i did! Sometimes the Latest is NOT always the greatest...

What can i do to get my phones WiFi connectivity back?

*Account name- Key in "Fido WAP" (or whatever you want to call it).
*Homepage and key in "http://wap.fido.ca".
*Leave User name and password empty.
*DISABLE "Use pref.access pt" - this will enable "Access point settings" bellow.
*Access point settings is now accessible- Use these settings:
-Proxy-enabled
-Proxy address-prox1.fido.ca
-Proxy port - 8080
-Data bearer -packed data
*Bearer settings-Use these settings:
-Packed data acc.pt. - wap.fido.ca
Leave all the rest as it is. Go O.K. to confirm saving settings.....
Now two things to finish :
1. Enable (say YES to "Use pref.access pt")
2. Go again into Menu/Settings /Configuration and select "Default config sett."

Procedure should be the same for T-Mobile (with different settings ofcourse).

Does anyone know the T-mobile settings?

I have the european version of the 6301 that used to be locked to Orange UK (software 9.40). I primarily want to use this phone in the US (T-mobile SIM card) with UMA/WIFI and occasionally in Europe with a different provider (no UMA/wifi needed for that provider). Do I need to debrand the phone? If so with what software ? Where do I get the T-mobile UMA/wifi settings?

I have a t-mobile blackberry with UMA/WIFI. Can those settings somehow be copied into the 6301?

Just spoke to T-mobile. They only support 5.83, so I doubt anyone would have the "working" 8.22 settings.

I wonder if the t-mobile content file for 5.83 with the 5.83 settings would work with the generic 9.40 mcusw and ppm. Where can I get those two to try (5.83)?

For those of you who've updated your phone via the Nokia Software Updater and lost Wi-Fi/UMA Connectivity, here's how I restored it (all credit to Moeman at T-Mobile Forums):
Quote:
Phoenix can be downloaded at http://phoenixslayer.blogspot.com/.
Once Phoenix is installed:

1. Connect your phone in PC Suite Mode (Nokia Mode),
2. File > Scan product,
3. Tools > Image file download,
4. Press download, wait for it to finish, restart Phoenix.
5. File > Scan product,
6. Flashing > Firmware Update
7. Make sure SW version is 08.22 and Variant version is 005
8. Click Refurbish Button

Make sure you back up your phone settings to your memory card before flashing!

I've been running 8.22 for a while now, and this method seems to restore the T-Mobile certificates. I haven't tried out the 9.40 software, but this is at least a step forwards.

Hello SWMetallica or anyone who can help, I've got a Nokia 6301b I'm using on T-Mobile (v08.22 RM-323 6-11-08 variant 33.27) that I'm trying to debrand so that I can use Java applications and the Wifi for internet browsing with Opera or some other browser, but I'd like to retain my ability to use the UMA for Voip. I've followed links in Howardforums to download Phoenix 2009.3.47 (other links were no longer valid) and wish to SAFELY debrand my phone with just my laptop and a USB cable-is that possible with your modified product pack? With my firmware already updated to v08.22, I couldn't change the firmware to the v05.60 for the Nokia 6300i using NSS to change the product code (I tried several different codes and each time NSU said my software v08.22 was the more recent firmware), since the firmware version is higher on my model. But I know the 6301 (MR-322) in Europe has firmware v09.40. I'm new to this whole firmware manipulation thing and could use some guidance. I could change the product key to 0551774 for the RM-322 and use Nokia Software updater to try to get the firmware updated to v09.40, but I'm not sure if that will do everything I need it to. Or, I could try flashing it with 6300i firmware again, but I know that's risky and I don't want the phone to brick. Plus, some forums I've read say it can't be done. I'm interested in your modified product pack-what exactly does it contain? A hybrid of RM-323 and RM-322 software? What version of firmware would I end up with? It'd be nice to have the option to go back to v08.22 safely in case something isn't right or it doesn't work as planned.

I've done the phone sync backup to my memory card, but looking at the items it backs up the UMA settings aren't listing-are they part of the settings that are backed up? Has anyone gotten everything to work? I'd appreciate some help on the matter. I like the phone how it is now, but would like to have the additional options if I can do it safely. Thanks.

I'd appreciate the modified product pack if you can send it to me. Thanks.

When I was looking into all this, reading this thread, it seemed pretty clear that it was not possible to use the WiFi for anything other than VoIP. Just putting that out there as my recollection---I don't have the knowledge myself to back it up.

An overall assessment of this phone, after I've un-branded it (thanks to this thread) and have used it for a long time on T-Mobile network:

I have every possible feature working. The UMA is working properly, I get to do Wi-Fi calls in places that do not have regular T-Mobile cell reception (like, our neighborhood grocery store - they have an open Wi-Fi network, and my Nokia totally connects to it).
By using new Opera-Mini browser, I can even watch YouTube video, (it streams them into built-into-Nokia Media Player), usually without delays or buffering.
I think the speed of the data connection is 'Edge', since the phone displays an 'E' in the top-left corner when it connects to anything online.
(I live in Chicago)

Here's what I'm paying for to T-Mobile:
unlimited voice plan for $59/month, plus $9/month for unlimited data.
T-Mobile doesn't know that I can stream You-Tube or even do some streaming radio (via MFRadio app) - http://mfradio.sourceforge.net/

Here's a warning to those that pay for getting unlimited calls through Wi-Fi UMA plans:
T-Mobile totally screws up their billing. Before T-Mobile came out with those unlimited plans a few months ago, I used to pay them an extra $10/month so that all my calls from home would not count towards my regular voice minutes. Eventhough I religiously checked that my calls were done through wi-fi (by checking the connection icon on top), they were still counted against my voice minutes. To finally get all the billing corrected, I had to go to T-Mobile's site, download a spreadsheet of my minutes, and sum up all of the wi-fi calls and voice-calls in Excel. The totals calculated by Excel were not what T-Mobile had in their calculations, eventhough the spreadsheet that I had was downloaded from their site... It took quite a few calls to Customer service to straighten it all out...
at any rate, thank g-d they came out with unlimited plans, now I don't' pay for that wi-fi uma plan anymore.

So, now that I have 'unleashed' the full power of this phone, I love it. I have all my email accounts set up, got my Google Maps app, Gmail app, Opera Mini, MFRadio, OVI store, etc... working.
I hook it up to my car stereo with a phone adapter ($2 on ebay), and the only thing I wish this phone had is a full keyboard.

I've had the $9.99 add on for as long as they have had it. 2 years maybe? And have never been charged for a wifi call as regular minutes. YMMV. I am glad to see you were able to debrand your phone though and retain UMA calling.

alas, I spoke too soon...
just tried using it as a modem (is that called tethering?) with Nokia Suite on the PC, and I keep getting an 'subscribe to packet data first' message on the phone...

is it really not supposed to work with t-mobile data plan, called 'Unlimited Web for phones'?
