Mobile Web 2.0

This may seem like a dumb question, but can you get to any mobile web site through Verizon's Mobile Web 2.0 or is it just their content? I use an EnV2.

You can access pretty much any web site--certainly basically only the WAP mobile sites really work on the phone due to the browser, but there are no limitations as to what web sites you can access (it's not limited to just the VZW ones or anything like that).

From the home page select Search at the top. Then on the Search Page select Go To URL. Then type in the address of the mobile site you want to go to.

Quite a few of the links that are presented by VZW on their portal also lead to other (non-VZW) mobile web sites as well.

With the enV2, once you go into the Mobile Web, go to "5. Optimized Web" and you can access any webpage you want. There is also an option there for the 'optimized web' basically the webpage is cutdown and formated to fit the phone better, but you can uncheck that option and see the full webpage.

Where is this "5 Optimized Web" you speak of? I don't see anything like that.

It's on the Voyager web homepage. He was probably assuming all phones had the same homepage.

Yes, I assumed that the enV2 had the same webpage as a Voyager, but no, I do not assume that every phone uses the Voyager's startpage. It is called an honest mistake< I am sorry.

You can "navigate" to any web page, but many won't display properly and/or may freeze/force a reboot with regular handsets.

Wirelessly posted (out there: BlackBerry8130/4.3.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105 UP.Browser/5.0.3.3)

Yeah. Try opening imdb.com on a regular phone. Painful.

They need a wap site.

By regular phone, do you just mean those with wap browsers? Because on my Dare (which since it isn't a smartphone, is a regular phone but with a HTML browser), imdb.com opened in about 10 seconds (and that's at 1X speeds, I'm not in an EVDO area).

Yes, it sounds like it was meant to say a phone with a WAP browser (since most VZW's "regular"/feature phones still have a WAP browser).

You can use the WAP version at wap.howardforums.com.

I usually use the wap site even though I have a blackberry. It's much faster since it's 99% text.
