Ring tone to message alert?

Hey all was wondering if there is any way to change a ringtone to a message alert on a factory iphone. I looked around the web and unfortunately I couldn't find anything. Thanks for any direction!!

I think that you would need to jailbreak it to get that to work, even then, I am not sure if you can or not.

You definitely need to jailbreak. You need to SSH into your iphone and change some .caf files.
The file path is:
/system/library/audio/uisounds/sms-received#.caf
These are for SMS alerts. For Calendar alarm, change "sms-received" to "alarm"

The method to making custom alert tones is similar to making custom ringtones.
Shortened some mp3s in iTunes to just a few seconds. Then convert them to AIFF files. Find the files in finder (mac) and change the extensions to .CAF. Since there are only 6 sms tones, you only get 6 new ones. Rename the Custom sms tones to "sms-received#.caf" change the # to 1,2,3,4,5 or 6. Copy the new custom tones into the above-mentioned file path.
Then just go into Settings on your iPhone and change to your new alert tone.
