ok i just bought a iphone the other day off craigslist... and i am trying to activate it and it says addd the data plan..blah blah.then i get to the end.."Review your Information"..it has the billing adress..cell number..data plan info..then it says "NEW 2 YEAR ATT Service agreement".. i did not know that you have to get a new 2 year att service agreement?.. i am confused about this..does that 2 year only apply to the phone you added the iphone plan to or the whole family plan? and do i have to get a new 2 year att service

umm yeah, its been known since day 1 that the iphone requires a 2 year contract. your only option is to unlock and jailbreak the iphone, and avoid activating it the official way. i hope you know the other limitations of the iphone like no mms, no 3G, no copy/paste, you cant send a text to more than 1 person at a time, i.e. you cant send MERRY XMAS to all your peeps at once, etc etc...just checking lol...

He is right for most everything except:
The most recent firmwares allowed for multi-recipient text messages (but no way of forwarding messages); forwarding messages has been done by way of apps requiring a jailbreak (but possibly an app that does this could make its way through the upcoming AppStore).

Also, there is an MMS app available but it requires a jailbroken phone and a non-iPhone data plan. EDIT: The latest version of the MMS app now can send or receive video, audio, pictures, basically any file.

The rest is true as he states.

Yeah, it's not like a regular cell phone where you can buy it off of eBay or craigslist and just pop in your SIM. You need to activate a 2 year agreement. It's seems like a big waste for you to do that on a used phone. You can go out an get a 3G in a week or so and sign an agreement.

You'll have to do what the others say, unlock and jailbreak it to not sign the agreement.
