I only compared it to a gun in that you want both to work when you need them to, and keeping your firmware up-to-date is a good way of keeping your phone so that it will be there when you need it to be.

It may be the safest way, but if you're out of warranty, it's by no means cheap. I just sent a couple of 5165s and 6185s in for firmware updates, and they wanted $100 each (their "minimum repair" quote) to update the firmware.

And I though SE was outrageous...

Well, that should be my choice, not a choice of Nokia. It is disappointing that they are taking such a stance, because I don't know of any Level 3 service center (here or abroad) that would do that. Problem is, most Americans live nowhere near a L3 service center...

Now, I keep all my phones current, but some times I try to be Mr. Nice Guy and help my friends/family/phone-buyers by making sure that their phone is in top condition. I guess Nokia doesn't care about their own products enough to share in that...

If I didn't overlook another post in this thread, this seems to be the latest version for the 6230b.

Though I haven't had the phone for long, I am very pleased with the phone and with Chippery9. I would recommend them to anyone.

I need something fairly reliable that's updated regularly.
Do handset manufacturers supply something like that? What about service providers?

I really need to know whether there's something like this out there or if I need to start keeping my own.

Under warranty, went to Rogers store in Montreal downtown on Ste-Catherine St, they send it for you free

Wow, I actually called that corporate store a week ago and they would not send in my phone for a firmware upgrade unless there was a problem with it.
They said if I wanted only a firmware flash I need to send it to Laval for $15.

Did you tell them anything different?

Then give them some erroneous software glitch or quote something from an imaginary firmware change list. Companies don't issue firmware updates for nothing...

hi, ive got an unbranded unlocked nokia 7610.

i just talked with the local south florida level 2 servicecenter and they said to simply mail it to nokia for the upgrade as the center did not have the upgrade yet.

i called nokiausa and they said that they will not service the phone as it is a european model. am i out of luck on this f/w update? please help. thanks!

edit: nokiausa said i could contact nokia europe for help

im not happy about mailing this phone overseas for a little funtionality

Is there nokia 6800 firmware available to get rid of all of the limitations imposed by Tmobile? My Tmobile phone doesnt have bookmarks, i cant change the gprs settings, and the dang voce tag option is greyed out. If i take it to cingular store, will they be able to fix this? should i mail it to nokia?

on my X105 I can access the setting manually, I want to do the same with the 6800, I guess I want the access which is a draw back from being a computer geek. I like to control my tech toys and not the other way around.

since this is my first nokia I have no idea, I do know there are 16 main menus and its not easy to find stuff. The Op. logo was pretty easy to remove though.

erm in your list you dont have the nokia 7200 presumably because it designed for US frequencies. Ive search many times for this on your forums and there arent many threads on my phone none of which cover this.

Tried to find it on posts but can't - is there an advantage to upgrading 6620 firmware from the current (unlocked) 3.14.1 to the newest 4.22.1 - perhaps someone has done it and could post opinions. Don't have any problems, but: recent change from MotoV600 leaves me disappointed with tingy call quality by comparison. Perhaps the newest firmware changes this?

I don't think so. And you can't download the firmware anywhere because it's not possible to firmware update a Nokia mobile yourself. You must take it to a Nokia Servicecenter

I am longtime Motorola owner and have done many mods but I am a Nokia newbie.

With Motorola, I used RSD Lite and flashed my phones with the new firmware from motox.xxx (not sure if I can list the website).

Does Nokia have the same applications I can download or does this have to be done through a third party? I want to have the latest firmware and also reset the lifetime timer back to 0:00. Thanks.

Sorry, the info I gave yesterday for the Nokia E61 is wrong. I was looking at the E62 information. However, there is a story on www.symbian-freak.com which indicates a new firmware version has been released. The new version is 2.0618.06.05.

Hi. I have a 6255i and recently had it flashed

. Since then, my Games and Collection folders have been hidden. I can see the contents of the collections folder through the Nokia PC Suite and of the Games folder if I attempt to download a program through the web browser. However, I can't access either folder. Alltel claims no knowledge of anything

(morons) and Nokia says it's Alltel's problem. Also, post flash, I can no longer transfer programs via Bluetooth, it will always say file format not supported even though the same program worked before the flash. Can anyone help? If so I'd truly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Is there a higher version than v4.29 for the Nokia 3300b? I'm trying to use a larger MMC and it won't let me...was told I need new version of firmware but I already have v4.29. I'm not trying to change anything myslef I just wanna know before I go an hour to the Cingular store to have it upgraded and get the same version I already have!

Just got back to my trusty 6620 - from D900 and Pearl - but why can't we get to secret menus where you can adjust volume, earpiece volume, ringing volume, etc, etc.. - like on Samsung? I've scoured the forums and there is nothing on secret menus for Nokia GSM.

Guys are there any advantages/disadvantages to switching product codes??For example if I change my N73 ME product code from 0543843 (Asian version?) to 0537289 (Euro 1)

Can anyone assist me on updating my T-Mobile Nokia 6263 firmware 4.44 to the latest version. Each time I try the update using the latest Nokia updater I get a message saying no update is available.
