i got the same issue.

GPS works in telus nav but not google maps.

In order to get back to qpst, you have to do the ##diag again and for me, unplug and plug the usb cable again..

Posted by: a1jatt

if
1 smartgps in registry is enabled
2 gps in phone settings is on
3 pde info is entered correct using qpst

then you must have gps

if you still dont have gps nobody can help you

Posted by: ipassgas

which one of the many opera mobile downloads should I pick for a fresh install on the touch?

This post helped me.
I got a lock on GPS in Google maps but it takes about 5-8 seconds to get 3 locks.

Posted by: tobeychris

GPS mode one is supposedly pure gps, 2 is assisted and pure, 3 is assisted, and 4 is blank. From what I've read.

Just flashed a client's Touch to this ROM...very cool. Some subtle changes but I just hope it makes the phone suck LESS.

Oh...I needed to install Active Sync to get the ROM to work. To save some of you some time, I've hosted the newest version here:

www.cbicore.com/dl/ActiveSync_4.5.msi

Enjoy yer "new" Touches!

Posted by: MBaughan

I installed the leaked rom before and was stuck in 1x... thought the new rom would give me rev a., but it still shows 1x...
i'm in oakville (just outside of TO), which is a prime evdo/rev a area.

Any suggestions?

Posted by: tobeychris

re-program? *act03

Posted by: MBaughan

I reprogrammed before (to get data), and still 1x

the icon says EV, then when i touch it, and it expands it tells me 1x (dialup)!
how frustrating!!

that Is just name of the the connection. icon tells you the type of the connection ie evdo or 1x

Did you upgrade your PRL as well?

I have 3 units, all flashed an work well.

Amazingly, i can leave outlook an hotmail to sync "as items arrive" with very little hit on the battery as compared to before the update, much more effecient data/radio.

I'm waiting for the P4000 update - hopefully coming very soon

Posted by: sledbc

Which QPST program do you run to get to where we need to change these settings? And how do you make the phone connect to QPST? did the ##Diag and installed the drivers but have no idea where to go from here with QPST.

Posted by: WarRaven

Tobeychris's thread at Ppcgeeks covers it all.

If your using vista, good luck, out of 3 units, i got it connected once, XP=no problem.

Btw, may need to get wireless modem drivers from HTC's site and install if that file is not on your pc already.

Here linky-
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=31437

Edited to add linky for modem drivers
http://www.htc.com/us/FAQ_Detail.as...act=sd&id=54726

Enjoy.

Same as well, i have one, however i will be suprised if they release another update for it.

Reasoning, they'll say it does not have enough ram to support 6.1 or something, then they can get out of updating alot of now older units.

idk, we wait.

the programming # (option 2) tells me that my phone is unable to receive PRL updates over the air... :S

as for A1Jatt's statement, i suppose its possible that you're right, that I'm still getting EVDO, but webpage loading seems to take longer than it did before the updated ROM, and I was sure that it used to say EV-DO when I expanded the icon... Hopefully I'm just being stupid.

Posted by: MBaughan

i just renamed "1x Dialup" "EVDO", so A1jatt was totally right.. and i'm a n00b.

Check PRL version under device info, you probabally already have the latest (11075 ?).
Page loading speed also depends on the browser and page rendering ability of device.
Download Opera mobile for Diamond from xda-developers, that is way better browser.

Does that version remove the checks for incoming sms an email sounds like the other mobile does?

I found that when I use the built in GPS with IGuidance it lags a bit. By the time I pass though an intersection I have already missed my turnoff. I will stick with my bluetooth gps receiver for now, but the internal gps works fine with Google maps, Live search & Streets & Trips.

Yes there are, at least on my phone which only has the new Telus ROM, no kitchen stuff or other hacks at all. I had the GPS working fine in Google Maps for the first couple days with anywhere from 1 to 8 locks. I put the virser dll on to see if it would improve things and I could no longer get any locks no matter where I was. I deleted the dll, soft-reset, opened up Google Maps and within 10 seconds I had 8 locks while travelling on the Go Train.

This is due to a bug in iGuidance. If you use an apllication such as GPSGate and setup a virtual comport on com port 2 then set iGuidance to use com 2 it will work properly.

Did you have your pde information filled in in QPST

Has anyone had success using the internal GPS with NAV4All or amAze?

Info filled in via QPST was the same with or without the DLL. The only change I made was to first put the DLL in the Windows directory and then remove it. If it's there, no locks. If I remove it, 1-8 locks within 30 seconds.

I am having weird sync/network problems since I updated to WM6.1 on a Telus Touch. If I disable the "Advanced network" functionality under the USB connections I get sync errors and have to try syncing 2 or 3 times before it will take. I am still able to browse the net over the USB connection on the phone itself which is very helpful for downloading updates and apps faster. If I enable "Advanced network" functionality under the USB connections I don't get the same sync errors, but after about a minute I get a pop-up warning saying the phone was unable to get an IP address. Strange thing is I am still able to surf over the USB connection.

Also, I remember being able to select "`USB" as one of the options for the "Modem" dialog and now there is only Cellular line, Bluetooth or Hayes Compatible on COM1.

Lastly, there are about 7 different options in the Network Card dialog from the Connections screen. They range from Remote-NDIS Host to NE200 Compatible Ethernet Driver. Right now I have it on the default which says "My network card connects to: and the drop down only has 2 choices, The Internet or Work. And the default adapter seems to be Remote-NDIS. When I click on the RNDIS to configure you can manually set the IP or set it to server assigned. Is there a way I can check that it's actually getting a proper IP? What is handing the phone the IP, is it my PC or my router? Also, I used to get an additional network icon in the Notification area on my PC when I had the phone hooked up and it said it was for RNDIS. RNDIS also appeared in my Network Connections, so I am assuming this would allow me to tether my PC to the phone if I wanted. That's all gone since I updates to 6.1.

Long story short, anyone have any idea what's happening or have a good resource for this because the net is failing me.

Posted by: ghettofreeryder

I know what the DLL does. There must be something else wrong with your config, as I know lots of people running the virser_gps.dll. Different version maybe?

Posted by: WarRaven

I myself, did not add that dll, to the three Touch's i updated.

All lock within 20 seconds.

ymmv

Posted by: tobeychris

I agree with Ghetto, I have two Touchs (touches? touch's?) and both worked perfectly with locks in under 1s of being activated with only the GPSOne settings mentioned, no dll.

Can anyone tell me what the SPC is for "10. Click on Read From Phone and then enter your SPC and click OK." I tried 228031 but it doesn't work.

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured it out.

Posted by: nirbs

Hello Everyone!!!
I'm having a huge problem well huge for my standards. I installed the "leaked" update 2-3 weeks ago, and now im trying to update to the official "Telus" version but every time I run the .exe file from Telus website, it crashes. I have downloaded and re-downloaded same problem every time. Any suggestions????

Posted by: Aaron McCarthy

Hey guys.. I was one of the first to install the leaked roms and was able to update the gps stuff and what not no problem once it was all figured out. To date.. no issues what so ever.

That said.. over the next few months I'll be spending alot of time down in the states. a week or so here and there. That said I have NO intention of using my phone as a phone down there but I do use the GPS feature often. or at least did when I was using my bluetooth gps. Will the internal GPS work down there as well? I have a feeling I'm going to be dinged for data charges cause the internal gps uses the data to get a quicker gps signal does it not? Is there anyway around this or should I just use the bluetooth gps while I am down there WHICH I dont want to.

Thanks guys

Posted by: tobeychris

Hey Aaron, I'd stick with the bt. You're right about the data charges for starting up the GPS. It does work without it, if you change some settings, but it is very inefficient, taking 10 to 60 minutes to get a location.

Posted by: fanfanman

Hi Everyone, with the new update, will I be able to take incoming calls while I am surfing the net, or still can't do the two things at the same time! Thanks!

Posted by: a1jatt

You can't do both things at the same time..
If you want you can either choose to receive calls and put data on hold .. or you can choose to ignore calls and continue using data.

You should be able to go Setting->phone->services and play with last option DND..
it that wont work , let me know i can find any application for you that will let you do that.

Posted by: fanfanman

Thanks a1jatt! I thought I read in one of the posts here that he could take incoming calls while listening to radio thru the internet. I was hoping that it means I could do both things at the same time. For me, I have always wanted to watch more TV etc on my phone, but I am worried that I will miss all the calls......any fix/suggestions to resolve this?

I did the settings with qpst (to enable GPS in google maps) that tobeychris outlined, but i was wondering....
if i perform a hard reset, does that mean i have to go and do all those settings again?

Posted by: tobeychris

Not sure. Try it and let me know how it goes

But really, it shouldn't. The only way it *SHOULD* be changed is by running a ROM .exe that contains a radio. I may be wrong and just haven't noticed it yet.

Posted by: shoulderlean

Thanks man!
Ill try it and let you know.
even if i do have to do it all over again, it really wasnt that much.

No even if you flash new Radio they should not change. The only thing that will change pde information is PRI update. Thats is normally in cab format.
other thing that can change that information is EPST reset. telus rom does not have that option. you do that by going is ##786 send menu.

Posted by: tobeychris

Does the new rom not load EPST through the customizations on initial boot?

And yes, it really only takes 2 minutes.

yes new telus rom customization has PRI update cab, ,that will reset PDE information .

If so, how do you get it to display?

Thanks GPS is now working with 8 sats in house wow :-)

Posted by: fanfanman

Hi guys, wondering if the GPS is working with, e.g. Google Map, would it be able to work as a "turn-by-turn" GPS or just able to find my location on the map??

Posted by: tobeychris

Did you actually read the first page?
GPS works.

Google maps is a location finder only. (obviously you can get directions and view the rest of the map too) but turn by turn programs cost $$. I recomment TT7, some others like Garmin... but I've never heard good things about Telus Nav :P

Google maps does alot more than location finding only. It has: My Location, Directions (turn by turn with no voice prompt), Trafic, and search items such as resturants and ponts of interest.

Posted by: tobeychris

Well... I consider turn by turn directions to follow your path and tell you what turn to take next. I suppose they are turn by turn, but only in the sense that they list all the turns you have to make at once and let you figure out which is next. As for Traffic... it's not available in Canada yet (as far as I know), but the search is a nice feature.

I'm not saying it's a bad program, I still use it myself, but when I want directions on how to get somewhere, TT7 is the way to go.

Posted by: DigitalZ

Does anyone know if you can use maps from a regular TomTom GPS on your WM 6.1 device with TT installed?

Posted by: tobeychris

well, they are maps from regular tomtom that you're using on a modified program. There's a version 6 and a version 7 to correspond with TT6 and TT7 maps.

Does anyone know how to get the streaming media to play in the background? I hate the program that comes with this new release. I'd prefer it if windows media player opened up my streams....

The activesync connection should be lost. When you enter DIAG mode it goes into serial mode. A new hardware found dialog should popup saying it's found something like 'HTC Serial Device'. I can't remember the same exactly but something like that.

The reason you do that is to bypass Activesync and talk to the phone directly.

I think you should disable usb connection from connection setting from active sync.
Download the drivers, then activate diag mode ( by dialing ##3424 send ) and plug it in.
when install drivers dialogue comes up, select install drivers from a specific location and point it to the folder where you downloaded the drivers.

Posted by: hastings

Does anybody have any reason why I've lost my caller ID functionality after installing this update? It's quite strange, I installed the unofficial ROM before Telus actually released it and I lost the caller ID.
Whenever I received a call it would just show the phone number even if the contact was in my contact list - I lived with it for a couple of months now and have since hard reset and reinstalled the new official Telus ROM. The problem still persists.

Any thoughts?

Posted by: tobeychris

hmmm, how does the number show up and how are the set in your contact list
if it's set to read 10 numbers and you have 9 it might be the problem. Never heard of this before though.

Posted by: hastings

Good question!
The number comes in as a 10 digit number without any "-", just "##########".
I know you can change that value in the registry on the phone for CallIDMatch and I have verified that it is set to 10.

Some of my numbers have a "1" in front of them for long-distance, but it's few and far between. I'm quite perplexed.

Posted by: Gen98

am I the only person who could not get their data to work after following the instructions on ppcgeeks?

My comm manager tells me that "no data connection exists" and I cannot activate it.

Posted by: Diarmuid

Sigh. Okay, there are 20 pages of replies here and I am not going to browse through them all, though I have found some useful information so far.

I have gone through the xda developers forum as well as a variety of service sites (pay-per-use) and found noone able to do this. I am quite happy to pay via paypal for the service, so long as someone actually knows how to do it.

I have an HTC Touch P3050 whihc WAS active on the Telus network in Canada. I am now in South Korea, with TWO of the phones, and I want to use them on my current provider, SK Telecom.

Both Telus and SK are CDMA providers, and from what I understand of the phone, it is compatible with both networks.

I need: to unlock the phone from Telus, which will require an SPC code of some sort as well as instructions on how to accomplish the unlock, as well as a re-flash to the SK network so that I can use the full features of the handset here in Seoul, Korea.

As a bonus, it would be FANTASTIC is I could do the following: use GPS maps via a browser or other program, use wifi (though my understanding is that it has a very limited range on this model), GPS locate one handset with the other, send photos via MMS, watch the DMB Tv available here and not require a battery charge every 45 minutes.

Please, PLEASE reply to me either via the forum or directly at diarmuid2k@hotmail.com IF you know you can do this and have it work.

You guys seem on top of your game and are my last shot at this before I trash the handsets and buy one of these Korean piece-of-garbage touch phones that are nowhere near a PDA (though they are very pretty and have TV)

Cheers in advance.

hmm...has anyone gotten the gps to work? i installed destinator as well as TomTom7...neither are working with the gps...any settings i need to do?

Posted by: Av8inwithtouch

Ok, so I finally got the GPS to work with Google Maps on my HTC Touch. I thought, seeing as I couldn't have done it without the help of this forum, I would share my experience with those who might still be having problems.

Here's what I did and where I ran into walls.

1st, I followed the advice of TobeyChris here

QPST gpsone settings

Now, I tried first on my Vista laptop and that didn't go anywhere. QPST would never find my phone. So I plugged the ol Touch into my desktop XP and still I hit a snag. The computer didn't have the proper drivers to recognize the phone as a modem (or whatever it is it actually has to do... drivers missing, that's the point). So I downloaded and installed this package here (I know some of you are probably thinking "well, that might work on my vista pc, I did try this package on my vista pc and it didn't work for me, I would recommend xp)

HTC drivers

After that, the desktop recognized the HTC usb modem and QPST found the phone, I could change the gpsone setting... let me tell you, I was a happy lad.

However, I still had no GPS on google maps...

So I kept looking. Some people suggested a registry change so I downloaded a registry editor here:

Registry Editor

I used the PocketPC 2002/2003 file and installed it on my Touch. I followed the advice of ghettofreeryder and changed the 0 under HKEY_Local_Machine/software/htc/supl_apgs EnableGPSsmartmode to a 1.

I did a soft reset... no gps... went back to the registry editor and found it didn't save the setting for Enable GPSsmartmode so I changed it again.. but did not do any reset. Opened up Google Maps... turned on use gps and 10 seconds later, my HTC Touch knew exactly where I was!...

So I still have to figure out how to save the registry setting, but I'm still feeling triumphant. In fact, I think I'll have a beer and celebrate.

I also just want to say thanks for all of those people who take the time to take dummy's like me by the hand and show us the way.

Cheers,
Shawn

You are correct and that's because the Touch that Telus has IS a "Vogue." Just as the P4000 is a "Titan."

There are mulitple models of Touch (CDMA is the Vogue) , Diamond (Victor), Touch Pro (Telus has the Herman versus the GSM Raphael), TP2 (Rhodium), etc.... The first distinctions among the first three are CDMA versus GSM. HTC distinguishes their varying hardware models with a name and often a number designation.

Whoever, way back, was calling their 'Touch' a Vogue was IN FACT being more specific and accurate than Riley's determination for a more generalised nomenclature... That said, this sub-forum is for Telus and therefore the Touch label should be expected to refer to one specific model -- the Vogue.

I just did the registry edit and my GPS finally started working again! Thanks! I've been trying to get it working again for months! Thanks community!

Cheers,
Shawn
