AT&T and Apple S**KS

I got to my AT&T store and was 25th on line this morning. I was unable to get a 16GB iPhone in black. They only had 15 black 16GB iPhones. The manager told me that they got less than 50 total. I cannot believe that they did not have more stock. There were over 500 people on line. This is not the way to take care of your customers. Now what can I do to get one today?

Posted by: lgreenberg

Go try waiting in line at an Apple store.

i spy with my little eye, something that looks like an apple online store!

how did they not take care of you as a customer? if they ran of stock then they ran out of stock. what, you want the world to stop just so you can get your precious 16gb Phone?

I was 24th in line and my ATT store only had 20 in stock. There was a group of people that were together and were not eligible, and didn't have the $399 so I got lucky. I was the VERY last iPhone 3G sold in Murray KY. They were taking orders and said it'd be a week or so before they'd be direct fufilled. I wanted a white 16GB but all they had left were 8's, and i never fill up my 8 so i figure why pay the extra hundred for a color? Just get a case!

Listen A**. I have a right to be upset that I was 25th in line and couldn't get the model I wanted. There is no reason for your comment. I never asked them to stop the world as you say. I don't think the expectation of getting the model I wanted was unrealistic. It's not like I drove over there at 2:00 and expected them to part the lines and serve me. You shouldn't respond to posts just to exacerbate the situation. If you have nothing constructive to say then shut up.

I do. Some stores got 20 total. You were 25th in line, so that would have put you waaaaay out of contention for even a phone! They really have no control over their inventory, and getting upset will not fix things. Especially getting upset at people on this forum.

And we wonder why people are worried about America's future generation!

Posted by: ShadyRensch

Yea the one I went to only had like 50, pretty terrible if you ask me.

Posted by: ianturner

mine only had 20....i was #2 in line at 615

It was.

If you had done enough research around here - you would have found a lot of references recently to how bad AT&T inventory distribution was last year, and that you should go to your nearest Apple store instead.

That advice is still sound - go to your nearest Apple store - I can almost guarantee you they still have inventory.

These experiences have mostly been at AT&T stores. Apple stores are supposed to be stocked a lot more.

Dude, your the ___! You come of as being a spoiled brat. If you really wanted that specific model you would have been in line earlier. No excuses, cause ifyou have excuses, then you didnt want that model bad enough. Get over it, it is just a phone and you dont need to attack someone over it. Grow up.

I agree with JML, either the managers suck at managing the inventory/demand, or they're pulling the gay Nintendo stunts where they limit it to hype it up

Posted by: shortcut3d

I was traveling out of town and was very concerned about leaving the SF Bay Area for release day since we have many options with a few Apple stores and ATT stores are like gas stations (well not really that bad). I did some searching for Colorado Springs locations and placed many calls. Eventually, I found the ATT store that would most likely have the greatest stock. Glancing at the managers tally of inventory, they have about 30 8GB and roughly a few more in 16GB split between black and white. I had the last choice between black and white 16GB. I went with....

Chill out, there's always tomorrow. Sometimes in this world you don't always get what you want when you want. Patience.

That's kind of patronizing. I'm glad you've got what you want and didn't have a bad experience like some of these people did. It's easy to be relaxed that way, isn't it?

Posted by: YouThinkYouKnow

Just an FYI, individual AT&T stores did not have any say regarding inventory. You shouldn't take this out on the people who are trying to help you. Trust me, if they had the phones, they would sell them to you!

Posted by: skitbravikiing

I have a good and serious moral quandary over a fu&king phone, as banal as this is. ATT lied to me back a few months when I returned to this country with my own phone (SE K850i; i.e. they GAVE ME NO PHONE WHATSOEVER) and needed to get service. They made me sign a contract and then assured me that I would be eligible for an upgrade when the iPhone came out. Today, after waiting nearly two hours at the Skokie ATT store, they ask if I have questions. I asked if I would have to be the upgrade fee; the guy goes inside to check for me. He comes out saying that not only do I have pay the upgrade but I can't get the phone at the reduced price of $199/$299 because I had just signed a contract four months earlier---which they MADE me do and gave me nothing for having done so. This is the second or third time they have lied to me to get my business and entrap me in their contract. I know I would really like an iPhone but I don't know if that desire can override the venom in my stomach for ATT. This is a baaaaad sign for America, when the only thing we have to offer any longer (good customer service) sucks. Ethically, I just don't know why I should put up with ATT. I feel right now that I would sooner buy out my contract; otherwise they'll get even more money from me. It may be worth the cost; plus, I'll be on the moral high road.

True, but ATT stores could let the 200-300 people in line that they only had 50 so they could split and get on with their days or hit the Apple stores or whatever. Instead, they kept us in line, so we could sign up to pick one up whenever they get in next week sometime?... I don't think so. That's pure manipulation.

Posted by: MCKINNIE

Come on, seriously. It's a phone. You have waited this long for the 3G, you can wait one more day. Please stop whining because you couldn't get what you want, you made yourself sound really spoiled and immature.

I agree, it's total BS, especially when you're very busy and time is limited. I planned my day around this launch and ended up screwing my entire morning 'cause the manager at the ATT store kept eluding to having enough stock for everyone in line. Yes, I know it's just a phone, and I can definitely wait a few days to get it (and will), but to get lied to just to create hype is pretty bad in my book. Bad business.

/end rant.

Thanks. I needed another to validate my feelings. Hee hee... how's that for immaturity?

Well, I think many of us were disappointed and had a major letdown when we couldn't get the highly anticiapted iphone. My local att store led me to believe that the would have a decent size inventory. They had 50 total for all of them. It was also frustrating to see some people join the line ahead of me even though they hadn't been there the whole time. That happened several times.

I wish they would do it like Best Buy on black Friday and that is hand out coupons as you arrive for the item you are looking for. One per person. That would solve some of the frustrations.

I ended up going back this afternoon and ordering one direct shipped to the store in about 7 days. If I happen to find one sooner, I can cancel that order.

I don't think anybody is really trying to be a jerk, just showing dissapointment at not getting our new high tech toy.

Apple allocated them the phones, it's not like AT&T said they only wanted 50. Give me a break. Does it suck, yes but it's not AT&T's fault.

Sure, they didn't get to pick the number they were allocated; however, they also passed on being good sales people and led many of us along for a few hours so they could hook us into signing up to get one in the future when they could have just as easily allowed us to make that decision for ourselves on whether we wanted to stand around in the rain only to get one some time in the near but ultimately indefinite future. That is only one reason they suck. There are many more, including not being able to provide service in my apartment and therefore effectively charging me for something which they could not provide. There are more reasons but I am tired of wasting my time on ATT. They suck.

Haha werd. And if "AT&T and Apple S*CKS" so bad then why bother getting an iPhone?

Posted by: hlysmksbtmn

I waited 3 hours in line at AT&T. 16GB ran out by about 10am. We were told we could place an order using their direct fulfillment so I decided to stay in the line for another 30 minutes. Turns out they couldn't figure out how to use the direct fulfillment system and told me to come back tomorrow, "the line won't be as long". AT&T sucks ***.

I canceled my FAN discount so that I could go to the Apple store. I waited 4 hours there and then at 11pm they told us AT&T systems were down for maintenance, but at least store manager gave us tickets so that we don't have to wait in line again tomorrow.

Apple store definitely had more stock and were willing to appease the customers. If you are on a business plan I would cancel and go to Apple and re-add it later. Don't waste your time going to AT&T.

Just wanted to point out it's Apple's fault AT&T didn't have enough iPhones. Don't see how you could pin this on them.

I'm sorry that you felt the need to bend over on the first day for Steve Jobs. For Christ's sake, its just a freaking phone. In a few days you are going to be able to walk into an Apple store and walk out with a working iPhone in 20 mins without the need to wait 4 5 6 or more hours in line. No need to deal with lines, no need to deal with iTunes server crashing, and no need to deal with long wait times to talk to CS. Also judging by last year, it should have been a given to everyone to go wait in line at the Apple store if they desired to get it on the very first day for an iPhone this time around.

Oh and I bet the 32gig Iphone will be released sometime within the next 6 months to screw Apple Fan boys over again.

Flame away.

Whats the big deal about having the first one the first day? I would wait a few days and mess around with my buddies before I drop the cash. I have a Nokia 8600 Luna, before that I had an iPhone, before that I have an Nokia 8801 - both my Nokia's were much more expensive then the 1st iPhone.

if you dont get service in your apartment, then its your fault not ATT's. if you signed up for service you had the chance to see if they worked where you live. if you moved to your apartment after you already had service, then you should have checked service before moving in. last year when i moved to this house the first thing i did was check if i had cell service.
