Upgrading Jailbroken 1.4 to 2.0

Got the update going right now on my jailobroken 1.4. Got error -43, cannot backup data. If you continue, all data will be lost.

Trying it now. Keep your fingers crossed!

Why are you trying knowing that you won't be able to activate/jailbreak the phone? Unless of course you have a valid iPhone account?

Posted by: jeremy1701

I do have a valid account. For me, the only reason to jailbreak is customization and Terminal (ssh). EDIT: Oh, and I suppose my undying support for open source software and the basic belief that since I own the device, I should be able to do with it as I choose.

I'm sure v2.0 will be jailbroken shortly.

unlocking is not the same as jailbreaking... all these posts are confusing me..

unlock = any sim
jailbreak = 3rd party apps (like customize and terminal)

Ha ha! I thought it was the other way around! I will fix that now.

Correct. Unlocking pertains to using any carrier, jailbreaking is the part where you do what you want with your own phone.

Well, it says it's done, but now all I get is the damn plug into itunes startup screen. It's not even activated anymore (can't send/recieve phone calls). I plug it in, but I get a timeout on the apple store.

Odd, b/c I can get to the apple store from within iTunes without the iPhone plugged in!

Yeah. Activations are down. Its been discussed all morning.

I guess I didn't realize that simply upgrading to 2.0 would require a reactivation. Seems strange to me...

Posted by: XanderMac

Unfortunately whenever you restore the phone it has to be activated.

I am so glad that I didn't update to 2.0 fw, was tempted last night and had everything ready to go aside from just pushing the button. Then I thought about the whole reactivation process and decided against it. THANK GOD!

I've never upgraded the firmware on the iphone so I had a couple of questions.

1- if I go from 1.1.4 to 2.0 (when jailbreaking is possible) wouldn't I lose all my applications/data/etc.?
2- I'm not certain how to back up anything other than contacts or my calendar.
2a- is there a way to back up my apps on the iphone including their settings so I don't have to reinstall and re-setup everything

I'm back! Took forever and approximately seven bazillion attempts to connect, but at least it's not an iBrick anymore!

Note that nothing was restored... No contact, no settings, no bookmarks, not even any music!
