Can Apple stores handle customers new to AT&T?

...or will I need to go to an AT&T store?

I'm going to want to port my existing phone number from Nextel and add international service.

They can do the port. Make sure you have your Account # from Nextel with you when you go. As to adding International Roaming right from the start, that I'm not so sure about. I would call the store and ask them directly just to make sure.

Thanks, Kadin.

I won't need the international feature for a few months so perhaps I'll go see what the action is like at the local Apple store.

Sure thing. I still have my 'Get Ready for iPhone 3g' checklist they handed out in line which has simply the following requirements listed:

New iPhone 3G Customers

To purchase and activate iPhone 3G, you need the following:

* Credit Card
* Social Security Number
* Valid Government-issued photo ID
* Current wireless account number and password (if you're new to AT&T)

Obviously activating will cut your account with Nextel so make sure you're not still in contract.

Just do the port, activate the phone, then look to doing any additional stuff with AT&T at a later date.

Good luck!

Random question that may have been answered already, but can you use a debit card instead of a credit card?

Woohoo! I am happy to report that all went well at the Apple store. It's only a few blocks from my house and when I got there, there was no line. I asked the guy at the door if that meant they were sold out and he initially said yes but asked if I wanted to stay for a demonstration of the iphone's features.

I was going to do that when another guy came up and said he still had one more phone left - an 8 gb black, which is exactly what I wanted.

About 20 minutes later, I walked out with an activated iphone. Couldn't have gone smoother.

Well, off to play now!

Congrats on the luck of getting the last one... Enjoy!

I used my visa checkcard to buy mine.

As long as your debit card has the visa or mc logo, you should be fine.

Don't know about an ordinary ATM card though.

You can't just buy in straight cash? I have a CC but I dont want to charge it to that when I have the cash in hand.

Which password would that be? The one to my online account area on (for me it would be VZW) my current carrier's site?

Basically if you have a password when you call in to Verizon on your account. They'll need that too. It should have said 'if applicable'.

You can't buy it with straight cash but you *can* buy a gift card with the cash, and then buy it with that. I know it sounds weird, but they want some kind of additional info on you with regards to the payment type.

On a similar topic....will the Apple store be able to add additional line to my existing account? If so the existing line will also be qualified for the subsidized price correct? Thanx for any info.

Is there any possible way to buy an iPhone (and sign up to a plan) without a Social Security Number. I'm from Canada and have just moved here, therefore I don't have one yet.
