There is something to say for a company who really knows mobiles, a la RIM or Nokia, who I am thinking of waiting on... The Tube looks awesome.

Problems like this are common at initial launch of a new product, it's just a little surprising considering Apple's stellar reputation. Hopefully all the bugs are worked out by the time I am in the market for iphone 3G.

I've used Windows mobile extensively including most recently the BJII and Moto Q9H. I also had a 1.0 iPhone and now the 3G. Bottom line is that it is very fast compared to most windows phones. I've read all the "problem" reports here and I haven't experienced any of them. I've also checked with half a dozen friends who also purchased this week and no one is experiencing any problems. I did have to return my first unit due to a faulty GPS, but the replacement is working just fine and I haven't seen any of the other issues.
I'm not in any way saying some people aren't having problems, but they tend to get magnified on these types of boards. They also tend to be rather subjective such as poor battery life, only one bar of service, slow sms etc. These are tough to define since they are subjective from a user's perspective. Poor battery life without the context of the usage doesn't mean much just as limited bars of signal strength doesn't mean anything since there is no standard on what the bars mean. Check out the thread on signal strength with actual db measurements for more detail and to address any concerns you may have.

The phone is really zippy, I'd say go for it.
I do experience the laggyness sometimes but I'm sure it'll be fixed in the next update.

When you sell 1 million units of anything, you are sure to hear some complaints. Please do not think that the users on this forum represent the general public. You also need to consider that most people who are on forums or write reviews...TYPICALLY do so because they have complaints or want to do something they can't do right now. The typical user doesn't write a review or create a thread when something works just like it should. If you read more educated reviews...such as those from engadget, ilounge, etc (people who do it for a living), you'll see that the "problems" you mention, are either isolated to a small group of unforunate users.

I agree with the post above. You sell and activate 1 million of anything within a day or two and there's bound to be problems. I got mine on Saturday and actually, haven't had a problem with anything. I would say go for it - don't tease yourself. You can always get the software update when it comes out if you aren't totally satisfied or even try it, and take it back if you don't like it.

Coming from a Windows Mobile device myself I can safely say I will NEVER go back. The occasional odd app behavior that I have witnessed is nothing like the experiences with WM2003, WM5, and WM6. As for speed, it makes my Windows mobile carrying friends drool. It is the fastest responding UI I have EVER had on a pda phone period.
I really like my iPhone 3G

I just came from a windows mobile 6 device and the iphone is about infinitely better than it!! its so much faster, smoother and just works. the web browsing is almost as nice as using a desktop!! it is really a pleasure to use, unlike all my windows mobile experiences.

i am having some issues, but when it comes to the iphone i know that things will be addressed sooner then later. so i say go for it, the pros really really out weigh the good.
