interestingly enough, i called Rogers the other day to inquire about the Bold...i will be eligible to upgrade in another month as long as i add the data plan (which i would of course)...sadly, i don't think i would still do it...i just can't justify spending $60/month for my cell phone package (even though it would be an awesome deal)...i have internet and email at work and at home already so there really wouldn't be enough time for me to use the device when i am not at a computer already. |

Knowing the only Bell service we still have left is a cell phone for my wife (because the contract isn't done until February), I figured it was an offer to upgrade.
The letter starts with the usual "We appreciate your business", blah blah blah. I figured it might be interesting to read on, and find out not only how much they appreciate our business, but what is this special offer they just can't wait to tell me about. Ironically enough, the letter is dated July 11th, 2008. The letter goes on to say about the 4 great reasons to choose Bell. It starts with "Enjoy the fastest and largest digital Network across North America" (yes, it says North America). They also brag about the fact that they have spent $750 million over the last 3 years to improve their network (could have fooled me, around here, Bell is the worst for reception in the city). It then moves into the "Access to great wireless phones and applications". It then talks about "being with the largest telecommunications provider in Canada means you get to benefit from their purchasing power". Really, that same purchasing power that has a $2 higher SAF, a 25c higher 911 fee, and the many price increases that have already happened this year, with yet another one coming August 8th (mobile browser going to $10). They then talk about how you "Spend less with Bell" and it mentions that on average, Bell clients spend 14% less than with the competition. What they fail to mention is the details regarding that. You can't simply look at ARPU and say "Hey, our ARPU is the lowest because we the cheapest!". There are several reasons why Bell's ARPU is 14% lower, and it has nothing to do with them doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. For one, they have TONS of people on EPP plans who shouldn't be (GRAN abuse), and they also have a lot of people on low cost retention plans to prevent them from cancelling. It has nothing to do with "Our prices are lower than the competition because we're here to save you money", because that just isn't true. Lastly, the offer. This sweet deal they have prepared for us to renew our contract. This "exclusive offer" they have "handled with care" for me to renew the service for another three years. You ready for this? A free Samsung m300 or a Sanyo S1. The funny thing is, I was curious if there would be some $0 Instinct offer (that would seem like a good deal with all the iPhone hype there is, if they really intend on selling the Instinct as an "iPhone killer"). Perhaps an additional $50 credit to say "Thanks, why not treat yourself to a nicer phone because we appreciate your business". Who in their right mind would accept such a lousy "exclusive offer". In fact, there is nothing "exclusive" about it. Anyone can get one of those bottom end phones for free with a three year contract anyway. Bell really needs to wake up. Don't pee on my leg and tell me its raining. I know what an "Exclusive offer" is and isn't, and this isn't an "exclusive offer". I'm not saying a company should have to buy its customers every time their contract is up, but don't send me a special letter, all dressed up and made to look pretty from the fancy high gloss envelope and paper, to the 4 paragraphs of Bell propaganda that fills the page and offer me nothing (there's even a picture of Frank, or Gordon, leaning up against a package marked "Special Delivery"). Do they really think their customers are this stupid (I suppose so, or they wouldn't do such tactics). Part of me wants to call in to CS and give them a piece of my mind, but I realize the CSR on the phone didn't create or send this waste of paper to my house. So, has anyone else received their "Exclusive offer" in the mail yet? |
I like my phone and the price plan I'm on, but I wonder how they hope to improve their business
