What's the FW on your phone right now?

Yes, what's the Rogers' firmware version on your phone right now? If it is later than the generic version provided by Noka based on your product code, you won't be able to unbrand it through the conventional/standard way.

Posted by: edwinlaw

What ringtone restriction? If you are talking about the mp3 restriction, just convert your mp3 to wma.

BTW, where did you get it unlocked? How much? Can unlocking also add languages too?

Thanks.

How do I know what' my Roger's firmware and also how do I know if mine's a later generic version? Thank you so much!

Can you also give me the instructions or a link on how to unbrand the conventional/standard way.

Here's my phone info if it helps, but I don't know how to check Roger's Firmware:

Nokia 5310 Xpress Music
V 3.83

RM-304
(c) Nokia
Variant: 00.00

Language:
V 03.63

RM-303
(c) Nokia
NR0

Hey guys, I just debranded my Rogers Nokia 5310 yesterday.
There was an awesome tutorial on how to do it here on Hofo, but I can't seem to find it again.
Nokia 5310 Xpress Music
V 3.83
RM-304
These same specs.
Download and install NSU (nokia software updater) and NSS (Nemesis something something) then follow what nemesis tells you to do to install the proper USB drivers for your phone. I had to do this because it had problems being able to detect/scan my phone.
MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING (it's in the menu, save the settings and contacts and whatever else you want)
Once you have both installed open up the NSS client and scan the phone.
There should be an option to read and see the product code. Check off the write enable box and then change the product code accordingly to the colour you have.
Mine was blue, I found the code through Hofo, but don't remember it off the top of my head.
Once you've changed the product number, close out of NSS completely.
Launch NSU and scan your phone. Mine was at FW 3.63, it prompted me to update to 7.something. I agreed. This erases everything off of your phone and installs the new FW and Nokia OS.
After it's done (which will take like 20 minutes) restore from the backup you made on your memory card.
My texting took a few minutes to initialize, but works flawlessly now, and the menu is SO much faster, and I can set personalized ringtones and any mp3 song as my ringtone or alarm sound.
I know this isn't extremely detailed, and if you don't understand any part of it, contact me or find the original tutorial. But trust me, unbranding this phone is so worth it it's not even funny.

I have tried that procedure but it didn't work , I still have the FW RM-304 V. 3.63. and NSU doesn't help .

Can someone Please post what are the Product codes for Blue Phones that can make this NSU work ?

Posted by: WesleyThomas

Hey, I have the product code that I used for my Blue rogers nokia 5310.
0558988
Are you scanning and properly reading the device? you have to be able to see all the product information to change it. I had the problem of it not scanning properly and I had to re-install NSS to get the proper USB drivers.

Posted by: sandra1tym

hi..i just got this phone yesterday, and i am having a difficult time personalizing my ringtones. anyway, do you know where i can download this NSS and NSU?

NSS is Nemesis Service Suite, it's a free dl, just google it.
And NSU is the Nokia Software updater, it's just on the nokia site.
You can't personalize your ringtones with the branded version. It just ALWAYS says "unable to set as ringtone" or something along those lines.
Now I have a full weezer mp3 as my ringtone.

Posted by: sandra1tym

thanks wes.
i figured that out..but noticed that my backlight on my keypad is not working anymore. argh, i'm so tempted to restore back to the factory settings.

Posted by: jullian

guys the step by step instructions please... if there's pictures of the steps, that would be perfect! please post the instructions please please!

Posted by: kleiner

I did exactly what he said, using the number he posted further down ( 0558988 ) and it worked like a charm.

I had to play around a bit until it recognized my phone. I don't know whether you have to have Nokia PC suite running or not, I can't remember, try it with and without. I hit the "scan for new device" the "phone Info" then "Scan". The first few time it didn't come up with a product code or anything but I kept trying ( it didn't take too long ) and then it worked. I changed the Product Code to 0558988, checked enable right beside it NOTHING ELSE !!! and then hit "Write"... it was done right away. I then ran the updater and like he said it says that there is an update ( unlike before ) and would you like to update. I answered yes and it took about 15 min. and there it was !!! MP3's as ringtones no problems !!! and now I can sent a flash text message too, I sent a flash text to a friend's phone and he can read it, but only once, it doesn't go into his inbox !!! Nice feature !!! a couple of new games too !!!

My nokia 5310 is blue and had V03.63 24-10-07 RM-304
Now it's.. still blue... and has V07.01 23-04-08 RM-304
I'm running vista 64bit

I followed WesleyThomas instructions, and they worked like a charm.... MP3's as ringtones, some new games, and Flash text messages... ( text messages that can only be read once )

Thanks WesleyThomas

I Followed your instruction carefully and voila! my blue 5310 is now debranded - thanks to you WesleyThomas!

I've been following this thread for several day, but had to stop due to the arrival or hurricane Ike. I live in Houston. Anyway, now that I'm back online I'm wondering if the steps taken to unbrand a blue 5310 XM from Rogers will work on a silver 5310 XM on T-Mobile. Also, does the phone have to be unlocked before it's unbranded? Perhaps these are dumb questions, but I'm new to all this. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

Posted by: WesleyThomas

Hey guys, glad to hear everything is working out for you who have tried my not so detailed tutorial. My phone is still working flawlessly, I get woken up by weezer every morning instead of an annoying nokia alert.
Rgr1856, i read something about there being different product codes for the different versions of the phone. I'm not entirely sure if the U.S. got the same series of phones as we did in Canada. The steps to debrand the phone should be the same for your phone as it was for mine, even if it's a different series. You just have to make sure that you have the right product code.

double post..
I haven't had the same problem, has anyone else?
I just checked mine, it's kinda dark in this room right now but the lights came on in full glory as soon as I pressed a button.
Sorry to ask but, did you just try a simple soft reset?

Posted by: Dlusion

This is great news.

Are there different versions of the 5310 that this might not work with? I got mine right when they came out.

And what can really go wrong? I mean, it's a brand new phone and I'm a little nervous about flashing it's firmware. I've seen other devices get really messed up with ppl flashing it with faulty firmware and get screwed.

For warantee, can't we just reflash it before sending it to Rogers? Also, will all txt msg's only appear once or are those only "flash" msgs, as in .swf files? The word flash is potentially "punning" me on this one.

Excellent tutorial I got rid of my crippled Robbers software tonight thanks to this thread

hey guys, thanks to all the great help in this thread!!!

having a slight problem though.. I updated to V07.01 successfully and am having no problems, but it has no chinese language which is a slight problem for me since friends from HK and China send me text messages which I can't read now ... I searched, and found chinese/english product code "0548870" and used NSS to update but when I use NSUpdater, it tells me there no updates for my phone...

Is there any way I can load english AND chinese on my phone? Thanks so much to anybody that can help me!!

hello, i just upgraded my phone to the firmware v08.32 from 3.6(the rogers version). This will only work with Nokia 5310 XM BLUE Rogers. I do not know about others tho.
My spec of my phone is:
Nokia 5310 Express Music
v8.32
23-07-08
(c) Nokia
Variant:00.00

Language V 08.32
V 08.32
23 - 07 -08
Rm-303
(c) Nokia
N

First you have to download http://europe.nokia.com/A4579163 from the Nokia website.
Second you will have to download http://www.b-phreaks.co.uk/index.php?main_page=page_2

After you download both, go into the Nemesis Service Suite and connect your phone. On the right corner there is a magnify glasses. CLick on that and it will check your spec.
Then go to PHONE INFO>
in the right hand side. you will see "Product Code"
In the bottom you will see the option "Read"
Click on read first and then check off "ENABLE" beside the Product Code.
Erase the product code that you have right now and put in "0558988" in the product code box and then click Write.
In the bottem you will see (...... Done)
Close the Nemesis Service Suite and then open the Nokia Software updater
Again you must connect the phone to the USB. Then follow the instruction and you will see the 8.32 firmware ready to update! SO you click update or what ever it is and then wait for a few minutes to update.
THEN YOU ARE DONE> ENJOY THE EXTREME LOUD SPEAKERS AND THE NEW FIRMWARE DESIGN!

Hope this help

this site is ****, i posted a step by step instructions and ended up that they did not post it here. anyways, i got my nokia 5310 rogers blue unbranded

I have changed the product code to 0558988 that I used for my Blue rogers nokia 5310.
I can update F/W to 8.32.
However, I still cannot use Fido sim.

Please help.
Cheers!

Posted by: bellman1

does any one have the stock 3.63 rogers? i would like to install another language on the phone but already have 8.32FW therefore when installing the language pack i can not update FW and can not see the additional language.
Any ideas i did not see a reinstall option.

Posted by: chuckewe

I followed the plans here (thank you all VERY much). However, the update listed in Nokia Updater is version 9.** (I think it was 9.36??) not the version 8 that others have used so far. I cancelled the update, fearing to go where possibly noone has gone before...

Has anyone flashed the version 9 update on their blue 5310 MusicXpress? Or does anyone have any info on how this update compares to the version 8 that's been used so far?

Posted by: ReAder

It's a new firmware update that came out a few days ago ( http://discussions.europe.nokia.com...d=266139#M43915 ). Not entirely sure what it changes so have held off for now.

Posted by: Stonejaw

I just did this on my sisters phone, the 9.36 works perfectly dont worry about upgrading to it.

Posted by: chuckewe

Thank you, StoneJaw.

Further: this upgrade would unbrand my Rogers 5310. This would be good, but does the unbranding affect other apps and network services with Rogers?

Posted by: Stonejaw

Everything with rogers works just fine only thing is, you will have to manually put in the web and mms settings if you want to use those but its easy and there is a thread in the Rogers section that has the info you need for that. All the apps are there except the rogers music player and crap, the Nokia music player is the best.

Posted by: chuckewe

Thanks again Stonejaw! I don't use my phone for web or mms so I'm gonna go for it.

Posted by: Tox|k

I just used this to unbrand my 5310b Red. Worked great.

Anyone have the product code for the Red coloured phone? Or at least the know where to get the Red themes (if that's the only difference)?

Posted by: majko

Some product codes:

0556882 5310 ? (V08.32)
0556883 RM-304 5310B AMER-N NA DEFAULT RED (V07.01)

0557166 5310 ? (V07.01)
0557167 5310 ? (V03.63)
0557168 5310 ? (V03.63)
0557169 RM-304 5310B AMER-N ROGERS RED (V03.63)

0558987 RM-304 5310B AMER-N CBW BLUE (no update)
0558988 RM-304 5310B AMER-N NA DEFAULT BLUE (V09.42)
0558989 RM-304 5310B AMER-N T-MOBILE RED (V08.21)

0560335 5310 ? (V08.32)
0560336 5310 ? (V07.01)

0560338 5310 ? (V03.63)
0560339 5310 ? (V07.01)
0560340 RM-304 5310B AMER-N ROGERS BLUE (V03.63)

0561208 RM-304 5310B AMER-N T-MOBILE SILVER (V08.21)
0561209 RM-304 5310B AMER-N T-MOBILE ORANGE (V08.21)
0561210 RM-304 5310B AMER-N T-MOBILE PURPLE (V08.21)
0561211 5310 ? (V08.21)
0561212 5310 ? (V08.21)
0561213 5310 ? (V08.21)

0561403 5310 ? (V03.63)
0561404 5310 ? (V03.63)
0561405 5310 ? (V03.63)
0561406 5310 ? (V03.63)
0561407 RM-304 5310B AMER-N SUNCOM BLUE
(V05.91)
0561408 5310 ? (V05.91)

V03.63 firmwares are probably (guessing) Rogers branded products.
V05.91 firmwares are probably Suncom brands.
V07.01 firmwares are the current red default version, and may apply to other colors.
V08.21 brands are probably T-Mobile brands.

Therefore it's possible that 0561211-0561213 are default silver/purple/orange. (Needs testing; my phone is default blue at V9.xx.) The 7.01 firmwares should also be testable.

I have an American Silver T-Mobile 5310:

v 05.91
20-02-08
RM-304
Product Code: 0561208

What code should I use to unbrand it?

So far these are the only unbrand codes I know:

Red: 0558989 USA
Blue: 0558988
Red: 0551710 Euro

Are these correct codes for red?

THANKS

Posted by: majko

If v5.91, your known choices are blue and red (for the US):

0556883 RM-304 5310B AMER-N NA DEFAULT RED (V07.01)
0558988 RM-304 5310B AMER-N NA DEFAULT BLUE (V09.42)

I have blue-on-silver myself.

However, if you haven't upgraded yet (and feel adventurous to look for other colors), you could try one of the following codes:

0560336 5310 ? (V07.01)
0560337 5310 ? (V07.01)
0560339 5310 ? (V07.01)

0561211 5310 ? (V08.21)
0561212 5310 ? (V08.21)
0561213 5310 ? (V08.21)

Disclaimer: The only information I have on these is that they are valid codes for 5310s, gathered from the Nokia firmware site. I do not know whether they are branded or not (which is the point), whether they will hurt your phone, so on. The only reason I mention them is:

1) They may be the elusive unbranded silver/orange/purples.
2) I've already upgraded past this version and can't test myself (unless there's a way).

If you get into trouble somehow, the default blue is at v9.xx, and should let you 'escape'. Alternately, if you try the first block of codes, default red should let you reinstall over them. Again, no promises as to what these codes do or possibly inflict.

I did 0558988 and it worked good except one thing, in this post, trying to fix:

I have the same issue and ignore it. If I had to guess I'd say open it up in Explorer and search for hidden files, then delete.

Well I'm just trying to figure out what this folder is used for, it has an icon on it, so it's something, and I might find it useful, if I can figure out what it's for.

But at this point in time it looks like nothing, other then storing in...

I'll call Nokia and see what they say...

I thought that 0558989 is for USA Red?

Also why does the Red version show a lower firmware version number?

If I have blue installed at the moment can I switch and check the Red out, and if I don't like it, switch back to the blue?

THANKS

That code you mention is for T-Mobile's red.

The reason that different colors may have different numbers may be due to either rollout date, branding, or some other reason.

You can use PC Suite and/or Nokia Multimedia Transfer (Mac) to load software onto your 5310, right out of the box. The discussion above is about unbranding or debranding. I successfully did mine (after much consternation). Mostly, it will allow you to use mp3 or other ringtone formats that the Rogers branding has locked out. It also means that if you use your phone for internet, you will likely have to manually re-enter your provider's internet settings, which is also available here and is not a problem.

The phone is awesome, BTW!

Hey All
So I just got this phone (Rogers Canada Red version) and did the debranding using the code 0557166 from Majko's post. Now I've got some other operator's logo on the phone when it starts/shuts down, and I'm only up to version 7.
Is there any way to return to the Rogers logo or even no operator logo on startup/shut down (just Nokia)? What is the product code for that? If there was a forum post about this, it's been long deleted and can't be searched anymore.
Finally, can somebody point me in the right direction for reprogramming WAP/MMS codes for Rogers? I found the addresses, but I am not clear where to enter them into this phone.
Thank you all very much!

Try 0556883 for red.

If it's still not up to date you could use the 0558988 for the blue firmware.

Posted by: databoy2k

Bland, that code unbranded it from everything - thanks!
I'll stick with that for now - I'm liking the red themes.

Thank you for taking the chance and trying that code so that I can scratch it off my list. Do you remember what operator it was (CBW maybe?)

bland gave you the right default code.

(Please note that I did put in the known default codes and Rogers codes in my original list, though...)

Posted by: databoy2k

Majko:
I'm sorry... I do recall it starting with an M, but that was all (maybe you're more familiar with European carriers than myself).
Bland's code worked great, though it as well only got me to version 7. I guess the red doesn't have version 9, though reading around it seems like 7 is good enough anyways. Thanks for the help!

Can't you just use the blue code, get vesion 9 then load the red theme on the phone?

I did my blue 5310 no prob. When I tried to do my wifes red 5310 I keep getting an error when I try to read her phone with NSS. The last line of the device info tells me to "please copy the loaders first" Any suggestions?

HELP!

I unbranded an unlocked Rogers 5310 Blue using the 0558988 code provided (THANKS) after some juggling around with the NSS & NSU (Vista was giving me LOTS of problems). My FW was updated to 9.xx.

I then restored my backed-up contacts using Nokia PC Suite.

However I am using the phone on Fido and while the phone works for regular calling (as well as setting MP3's for ringtones & alarms), I have come across the following problems:

1) My call display no longer works (for contacts in my phone book or even non-contact phone numbers, number doesn't show up)

2) When I go to my voicemail box, instead of instantly asking for my password, it asks me to input my full number (which after doing so states that my number is not recognized) - so I can't check my voicemail

3) My Call Forwarding no longer works - when people call, they get a message that asks them to enter the number of the person they want to leave a message for (instead of getting my personal message) and then the system states that my number is not recognized

I haven't checked any of the MMS or other internet stuff, but I am assuming that is also messed up and no longer works.

I've been looking for help online all night and trying different things but to no avail. I'm going to call Fido in the morning, but not sure if they'll help me since the phone probably isn't supported since it's not one of their crappy phones.

Can someone help me?

I bought a 5310 last night from T-Mobile. When I asked them if Opera Mini, Google Mail and Google Maps would work, they assured me they would even though I knew they wouldn't. I called T-Mobile support to see if they could help even though I knew they wouldn't. Their solution? Use their email application to send receive email at 15 cents a pop.

That's when T-Mobile became my nemesis. First thing to do is to backup your settings the the micro sd card (this is important, I'll explain later). Then you'll need to change the product code on the phone itself. I'm not sure if this forum allows me to link to such software. Let me know.

Using the software, set it up as a Virtual USB Device. Connect the phone and Scan. Once scanned, press read and check the Product Code. Change it to 0551710 and press Write. If you don't have a red phone, you may need to google a bit for the right color. I think the only thing different is the phone's default theme colors. Once written close the software.

Next, open NSU and update the firmware for the phone. NSU will say it's up to date. Choose re-install and go make a snack.

Lastly, once the phone is reflashed, you'll be greeted to the sweet sound of freedom. The Nokia bootup tone (instead of the orwellien t-mobile tone). Congrats. You're almost there.

Restore from the backup you made so that t-zones connectivity configuration can be restored. Now, browse your apps. Be amazed at what the rest of the world gets by default. Opera Mini. Sensor. WidSets (AWESOME app btw). Download Google Maps and Mail from mobile.google.com.

It's truly amazing how different the land of the free has become.

ALL CREDIT GOES TO USER charged2885 FOR THIS WALKTHROUGH, THESE ARE HIS WORDS, AND THERE EXACTILY WHAT LEAD ME THROUGH TO DEBRAND MY PHONE !

no no... just creat a back-up to save the configuraton settings... then restore once unbranded... its so simple.

Hey everyone, long time reader first post for me. Just wanted to add a couple important things to this thread for all you out there. I unbranded a Rogers 5310 (Red) last night following the guidelines on here encountering only a few problems. I suggest including these steps in your unbranding quest to make your life easier.

First off, download NSU and Nokia PC Suite and install them. Then make a back-up of all your phone’s data using the PC Suite. This program works great and synchronized everything to my comp wonderfully. I’m not sure if the NSU is necessary if you use the PC Suite because the option to update the phone’s software is included in the program, but I did it the “traditional” way I suppose.

Secondly, I’m running Vista 64-bit and had several problems running NSS correctly. Solution:
1) Select “Virtual USB” during the install, it was the default first choice.
2) After install select “NO” to upgrading the driver or w/e.
3) Run the program in “compatibility mode Windows XP” AND “Disable visual themes”
4) Run as an administrator
*I assume this procedure would fix any issues with Vista 32-bit as well.

Finally, I used the latest code 0558988 BLUE (V09.42) for my red 5310 and it works flawlessly. Of course the default themes are all blue, but you can easily dl red ones to your phone (I have no idea if the latest red version V07.01 is different, but I figure the higher the number the better.) After the phone restarts, use the PC Suite to install the backup you made earlier to your “new” phone.

I IMMIDIATELY noticed significant improvements. Boot up time, menus and interface are all WAY faster! Any ringtone, more apps, better calendar and alarm, only the Nokia music player, and the volume on the speaker is RIDICULOUSLY louder! Also greatly improved battery life. Not to mention no more Rogers branding everywhere, good riddance.

Hope that helps, peace

This worked perfectly for me with a blue music xpress 5310 on Rogers canada. Goodbye branded rogers straightjacket, hello freedom.

Hi
Ive tried everything i can think of so far and cant seem to figure it out. ive read through all the posts i can find and im still having trouble..

in NSS i can get the phone scanned but the product code will not come up unless i check that box and hit read. then it reads the correct product code and i hit write. i think i have that part right..

Ive tried to update using NSU and PC Suite but everytime i try and update after about 3 min it comes up saying that the phone has disconnected and to take out the battery, disconnect the cable, then reinsert the battery, connect the cable, hold the power button for one second and hit retry. i follow the steps and about 5 min later the same thing.

it just wont update for me.. the phone stops being reconised

i think its a driver problem but my comp wont allow me to manually install the drivers that come with NSS

if someone has any ideas for me that would be great

i have Vista
5310XM Blue with rogers
V 03.63

I suggest uninstalling everything from your computer, and I mean everything! NSS, NSU, Nokia PC Suite, and all Nokia drivers, basically anything that has the word Nokia in it, remove it from your computer.

After that, re-install PC Suite, but make sure you only go up to version 6.86!! Don't update PC Suite to 6.89 when it prompts you to! I've found it messes with NSS, at least on my 64-bit Vista. Then proceed with NSS and follow exactly what I said in my first post in this thread.

Other than that, I don't have any other suggestions other than trying on an XP computer and doing a fresh install of everything outlined above. Good luck bro

Posted by: whacker

I had the problem of NSU indicating my phone had been disconnected also (this doing a simple FW upgrade on a 6263). It finally took and did a full upgrade after doing the dance with the physical connections a bunch of times.

I theorize that this may be a result of the computer's resources just not being up to the task (processor speed & RAM amount mainly, just a guess). It seemed like the computer just couldn't get out of it's own way to do what NSU needed, so the USB ports were dropping the ball.

I've gotten a new computer since (Vista 64 with fast processor and 4 GB RAM), but haven't done any further updating. Am getting a red U.S. 5310 in a day or so, and may be interested in debranding. I've got my eye on this and other threads of this type!

Posted by: peterm15

Thank you very much...

i had already done that a few times with no luck. so instead of screwing around i decided just to update. i took everything off( nss nsu pc suite) i loaded up just pc suite and upgraded the phone. now it workes.. i can use mp3s and everything.

Posted by: rvictorg

Awesome, glad you got it working. I guess NSS did change the product code the first time for you. Welcome to Rogers branding freedom

Looking for Product code for Norway to my 5310 XpressMusic blue RM-304, can anyone help me?

Posted by: whatever69

Hi,

I have FW 9.42 on my Red 5310. I know somebody earlier mentioned that you you may not be able to unbrand your phone if your FW is not 3.63 (the default). Is this still true? Is there another way? All I care about is being able to use my mp3 as ringtone. I have NSS installed, but it's having trouble scanning my phone. I think it's the FW.

EDIT: I installed the latest version of NSU, and I was able to run NSS and scan my phone and change the product code. The only thing is that it says that I have 9.42 and that it's the latest version and that there's nothing to update. Any way I can force it to update the FW again even though I have the same as the one NSU is saying is the latest?

Posted by: whatever69

I'm thinking that I have to wait until someone can post a product code for a Red 5310 for FW v10.10 for Canada/North America. Then, and only then can I enter the new product code using NSS, and then run NSU in order to flash the unbranded v10.10. Is this correct?

I think v10.10 is out for the Philippines. Just guessing. I'm kind of scared to try the product code of 0546968 as I don't know if that will flash my phone v10.10 of who knows what language or carrier. You can type it in here to verify that is v10.10, but other than that, I don't know much:

I was able to find the 10.10 Global firmware. Is it a good idea to install it on my phone which is a Rogers 5310 (North America Phone)? I'd like to unbrand this phone sooner rather than later. Any advice would be appreciated.

Posted by: rvictorg

If you only care about using an mp3 as your ringtone you should be able to do that already since you said you're running 9.42. And that would mean it's already debranded from Rogers. As far as I can tell the only difference to 10.10 is that when you play videos in full screen and pause them, it will no longer reduce the picture to half the size...pretty lame if you ask me. I'd recommend sticking with 9.42 until a definitive North American update comes out.

You can definitely overwrite your existing product codes then run NSU and update the firmware, yes. BUT it's very difficult (if not impossible) to roll-back to an older version of firmware, i.e. 10.10-->9.42 so in case something goes wrong by using global product codes, that's why I'd recommend staying with your current version especially if it's working fine.

Kornel, I can't help you with the Scandinavian product code, I'm sure a quick search on google would help. You might have to get something like Euro-B?? I know that those different Euro codes contain multiple languages so it's just a matter of finding the right one, sorry I can't be more of a help.

Posted by: whatever69

Hi rvictorg,

Thanks for the advice. I will take it and just leave well alone. Once the legitimate 10.10 update comes out, I'll update it through that. And yes, I looked into downgrading but the risk outweighs the benefits.

Thank you!

Ok, for some of you who got the issue with NSU, probably this will help, I found it after some hours of web search (Google, Yahoo, Bing, Live, etc...) and it was hidden on the Nokia forums, basically read the whole thing, the main files to look on the Registry are "nmwcd" and "nmwcdcj", read the whole thing and check the last post:

Solve!!!

...."I went to Local_Machine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ just like you said and I removed "nmwcd" and "nmwcdcj" as well as Nokia USB Modem and Nokia USB Phone Parent."....

U will have to go into Regedit and delete those 2 folders in Services, in my case I simply uninstalled the Nokia software (via Add/Remove in Control Panel), restarted the Pc, then reinstalled first the Suite then the Updater, and finally connected the phone first to the Suite and the the Updater, the Update worked with out issues.

The phone I fixed was in the crazy possessed state, turns on and off on it's own, after running NSS, things worked better, but after the full update so far everything work amazing, really Rogers deserves a kick in the arse for crapping out such a great phone.

I used this site to unlock my Nokia 5310: http://www.uniquephones.com

Posted by: rvictorg

Mary, this thread is for "unBRANDING" or debranding your phone, which is totally different than unlocking it. Updating your firmware and consequently unbranding it from Rogers does NOT unlock it. Unlocking your phone comes at a cost, typically between $10-$20 and can be done through various websites that offer the service--like the above poster suggested.

Posted by: chantie3

Hi, thanks for sending me the site, but it doesn't have my phone listed, mine is a 5130 xpress music.

Can you suggest any other places to check out, I have looked, can't find one.

Hi, I have a blue rogers Nokia 5310XM and I have used NSS to change my product code to 0558988. The problem is, when I use NSU, the application says it's identifying the phone but after that I get a message saying: "Phone is not supported. The phone model is currently not supported." I'm on version 3.63 and am RM-304 - If anyone could tell me what I'm doing wrong it would be much appriciated

Posted by: mr_yellow

just wanted to thank those involved with compiling the steps to unbrand. I bought a used red rogers 5310 and unbranded to 0556883 RM-304 5310B AMER-N NA DEFAULT RED (V07.01). I stupidly forgot to record my original product code but the new firmware is much nicer without the rogers garbage.... Even though it's not the highest FW (9.42), i haven't had any problems yet.

Just to reiterate what the steps are:

1) download and install Nokia Update Software
2) download and install Nemesis Software Suite (used virtual USB)
3) reboot a few times
4) plug phone into USB
5) launched NSS and scanned phone
6) changed product code to above number
7) closed NSS and launched Nokia update software
8) let it scan the phone, it detected it and found the latest FW. It downloaded and flashed. took about 15 minutes

Since the phone was just bought and wiped already, i didn't need to save/backup anything. made things a lot easier.

Thanks again.
