Where to get video for iPod ?

Hello all- My girlfriend just got a new iPod and would like to put some video on it, is there a site where we can get video to put on it ?
Obviously not through iTunes, but I figured there may be a free site somewhere, I had an iPod but it was way before the video capability and I really know nothing about them, not even sure if they have to be converted to a certain format, etc..

Thanks Very much for any help !!!!!!
Cheers, LL-

Hi Lamplighter-

I believe all video going on the iPod has to be in MP4 or .m4v formats. I don't know exactly where on the internet you could find videos to download per se, (and of course the legality of that would be under question), but you could always rip your DVDs with Handbrake.

All Handbrake does is, when you pop in a DVD, simply tosses it into mp4 format. i use it a lot for TV shows, as you can specifically extract the episode you want and put it on your iPod.

Good luck!

Yeah, handbrake or one of the other ripping programs. (But from what I've been reading, handbrake sounds like on of the easier options. Just don't forget to pick-up the necessary "accessories".)

On a side note, a friend of mine in Australia was trying to figure out how to get around the embargo, but I think it would be extremely difficult.

A-HA !! Cheers for that Famous.. and chimp..
It sounds pretty straightforward and will give it a try tonight, iTunes seems a bit overkill as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks again, LL-

I've been using Handbrake and I love it. It works incredibly seamlessly, and has the defaults for converting the videos to iPod, iPod Touch/iPhone, PSP, and more. Works great. I've used it to put all my DVD's on my iPod.

One caveat: I've been using Handbrake on my Mac and there hasn't been any problems. When I tried to set it up for my mother on her laptop with Vista, I could not, for the life of me, figure out how to make it work.

I've been using Super to convert TV shows for my iPod. As for DVDs, I use CloneDVDmobile.

You can even search on Google Video and the option to convert is there.
