So I recently purchased a 2008 Honda Accord coupe and it comes with projection headlights. I decided to have an prolumen HID kit installed, but I can decide whether I want 4300k or 6000k bulbs! I had them put one of each on either side AND THE 4300k looked whiteish yellow and the 6000k looked whiteish blue. WHATS BETTER? Everyone keeps telling me that ALL OEM HID vehicles use 4300k and its the projector that causes the light to look blueish and that I should use 4300k as it produces more useable light. I want the car it to look OEM but I don't want a yellowish colour. Opinions?

4300k and lower will give more yellowish color while 6000k and up goes to blue and purple and actually shows less usable light. our eyes see more towards the end of the yellow portion of the spectrum than the blue and purple. 6000k is fine to use as is 4300k. don't go over 6000k however unless you want something justfor looks.

My SVT Focus has OEM HID's, and they are 4300k I believe, and they are not yellow. 6000K will be a purplish blue. 4300k is more of a white light.

This is from PIAA's website:

will the projectors make the 4300k look whiteish blue? my main goal is to make them look oem!

The projectors will make them look OEM. 4300k is stock on quite a few vehicles. 6000k will definitely look aftermarket.

4300k is OEM....

i would get 6000k

6000k is the best. don't pay more than low $100s for a kit

i would also recommend 6000k. just in case ur projectors arent specifically made for hid's.

there are light bulb manufacturers that do oddball temps, a member that i know got 5200k which is the whitish blue that people want. Looks OEM btw. try searching for 5000k, it will suit you better.

Hopefully you are joking.

Greatest useable output is between 4100-5000k. My friend replaced his OEMs with 6000k and they have a noticeable blue tinge. Brightness is sizeably lower compared to my 4100k bulbs.

Go 4300k.

I have a question:

If one already has an HID setup, we can just replace the bulbs without replacing the ballast and they should work fine right?

whats so wrong about that? Arctic blue with proper alignment of the headlights these look great. At least on my car + waaaaaay much more light output than my halogens.

not always, I have tried that before. Some ballasts don't take all the bulbs.

Whatever makes you happy. I was just wondering if you were serious about going with 10k.

My Prelude (with S2k projectors ran 6000k, and I thought that was the best color, however, my S2k kept the OEM 4300k and that provided better lighting.

I think I will try 5000k on my Evo.

I will take greater light output and clarity 100 times a day over "better looks". Who cares how it looks? When you are driving at night, don't you want better visibility? On a dark road, who cares how they look?

oh don't get me wrong, I do get a lot of light at nights especially at dark places it lights up like christmas. Here's how it looks

light output

I guess to each it's own. Just wanted to offer my input.

I guess each has it's own preference then. Some people put a huge aluminum spoiler on their Tercel and they find it nice and they say the car is faster with it too.

Glare.... Get a wall shot.

Here is a pic from my Prelude w/ custom s2k projectors:

Thing with rebased HID kits is yes they do put out more light than standard halogens but with so much glare (especially in a reflector setup) you'd have to aim them down to reduce glare to oncoming traffic. Any gains made switching over to these kits are negated by aiming them down.

I also find it funny how guys with those kits tend to take light shots of the headlights (showing their brightness and in addition, their glare) as opposed to projector guys who take wallshots with emphasis on cutoff and lateral coverage. Just a thought.

Nicely said.

HID projector retrofit or go home is my philosophy if you're upgrading from a non-hid reflector setup.

i have a 35 watt 6000k in my 64 chevy and they are a tinge blue. i have 55 watt 6000k bixenons in my f150 and i will tell u like this. im going to get 35 watt kit for it in reg xenon. bixenon is pretty much a waste of time.dont get them, they are too bright and oncomming drivers hate u. especialy when u flash themback with the high beams( change bulb angle). make sure your lenses can handle it, and i agree, the aftermarket kits have to be pointed almost at the front bumper to kill the glare for oncomming drivers so make sure if u buu the light kit, u find a decent reflector/ lense to go with it
