my late older brother used this forum like his bible so ifigured i'd follow his footsteps a little. i know he use to make and put his own ringtones on this i880, and now i want to. can anyone help me with detailed instructions?

Sorry to hear about your brother...

Making ringtones isn't hard at all, it's just getting them into the format the the i880 likes.

Pick audio in any format, wave, .flv, .mp3. or whatever, and use media coder to convert it to mp3 with the following settings: lame encoder, mono-channel, 8khz re-sampling 64 or 128kbps mp3 bit-rate.

Upload with your favorite Jal uploader app. (the one I use isn't supposed to be talked about here)

You CAN use sound forge, but I was never successful with it (didn't try too hard). I just said what I know works because it worked for me.

The one weird thing about media coder, is that when you try to select only parts of the mp3 to transcode into a ringtone instead of an entire mp3, it may take a couple tries to get the stop placement set right. For some reason it seems to forget to use seconds and make them much longer than you want. (IE: you can tell it you want from 36.5 to 41.3 seconds in the mp3, and it will transcode from 36.5 to 65.3 seconds. (for some reason it sometimes transcodes between 4x and 6x the intended time)

No, I never knew your brother, I just joined this forum a week or so ago. But it sounded from your post like you respected and want to emulate him, and I was offering respect.

thank you for the instructions and respects. i do very much emulate and would like to share and learn his interests. we weren't very close towards the end and he was a computer genious, all self taught. i just wish i woulda learn a fraction of what he knew from him.
