Below are the secrets to the Siemens S40. Happy playing with it.
1) In order to display the IMEI, simply * # 06 # type.
2) With the code * # 3 3 7 0 #, one can make the available Sparch codecs to be displayed visible.
3) With * # 9 0 0 1 # we can activate the coporate lock. With * # 9 1 0 1 # one can remove these permanently.
4) With * # 9003 # one activate the network barrier. With * # 9 1 0 3 # one can remove these permanently.
5) Technician menu:
The following code input and green listener key press: * # 3 6 4 4 6 3 3 7 * 8 3 7 8 #
Briefly wait and then red listener keys press and let us see that in the main menue will appear a further menu option stating "engineering". Since there are menu options, one must deal quite carefully. You can also view the version of the software here.
6) In order to access directly an entry in the directory, you type simply the number of the storage space of the directory entry and set a # behind it.
Example: 42#
Automatically the telephone number of the entry calls 42.
7) With * # 9000 # one can activate the SIM barrier. With * # 9 1 0 0 # one can remove these permanently.
With * # 9 0 0 2 # we can activiate the provider lock. with * # 9 1 0 2 # one can remove these permanently.
9) With * # 9004 # one can activiate the Subset lock. With * # 9 1 0 4 # one can remove these permanently.
10) Siemens PIN2 Code : 2222 <-- Thanks to Cake

To reset the entire phone **including deleting ALL phonebook and event entries**, do the following:

1) Remove the back cover, battery and smart card
2) Replace the battery and back cover
3) Turn on the phone and press *#337#
4) Replace the smart card

use @ your own risk. the phone doesn't like you messing around with those codes. just a warning ...

hi there
thanks but i tried * # 3 6 4 4 6 3 3 7 * 8 3 7 8 #

thanks so much....

Did you take a look at the settings menu? The engineering menu is version independent.

Posted by: aphex

By removing the Corporate lock, Network barrier, sim barrier, provider lock and subset lock - the phone will be usable on any of the networks that the phone can handle??? (with appropriate service of course)

the engineering menu isn't all that great anyways. not if you don't know how the phone's chip works. other than that it gives you some stats like production s/n software s/n etc etc. no big deal.

the menu is tricky to activate, follow the instructions exactly (press green talk key etc.)

i'm not exactly sure what the deal with the locks are. i tried installing them and removing them and i ended up resetting my phone beacause the phone was acting up on me.

Not necessary. Just enter the code, and the menu will be there there. No need to press any other keys than the plain code (you will have to delete what you typed to be able to enter the settings menu).

so if i have this menu, can i update the firmware myself? with a data cable?

Posted by: F.Ruehl

No. The engineering menu has nothing to do with updating the software.

Posted by: aah_tree

um so wat can i do in the menu?
i mean can i even change the word out on the screen
i got a cingular s40 which i have unlocked it. i would want to change the word coz it is now cingular logal when startup and fido after startup
also howard's pone have a can-fido on top but mine only says FIDO without CAN-
how come?

You can find out all kinds of system data. What did you expect from an "engineering menu"?

Posted by: Base-head

what is the MSINFO option in the enginering menu? and can anyone offer any tips to get WAP working? im using cingular in san diego, ca. btw, cingular is having a 2months free SMS/WAP promotion down here, i saw it on a storefront window, so I called and they hooked me up.

what can that menu do?
what are all the numbers?
is this menu like the *3001#12345# stuff in nokia>
but it still seems different.

um
