Bye Bye Bell

After ten years I have decided to leave. The final straw was to get a Touch Diamond that required me to move to Telus. The Telus plan will actually cost me about $70 less than I pay Bell today so at least I will get a three month payback on my bell cancellation fee.

I am really ticked about the cancellation fee because a dealer put me on a three year contract two years ago when I bought a Motorola Q and I didn't find out until I bought a HTC 5800 last year. I tried to get it cancelled then but Bells attitude was tough luck. This is in stark contrast to the excellent treatment I have had from Bell on the other three services I use (Phone, Internet and Television)
BTW after four days I love the Diamond (actually its a Victor) it is very stable, the bluetooth is excellent as is the voice quality in and out. The battery life is a bit dicey..OK for a normal day but after a heavy day I am down to 1 bar by early evening. It seems to be getting a bit better as I use it.

generally batteries get better with a few charge cycles.
when i first got my shine it wouldnt even last me a day... now i get around 2 full days and maybe a half a day more if im lucky lol

also is your telus plan the same or similar to the ex-bell plan

i have a hard time believing there would be such a price diff in that case

Why would you leave a carrier just for a device???? That doesn't make sense...

And I too am curious about the huge difference in fees. Is that an annual difference, or monthly????

Tell that to all the people that do the same thing just for the iPhone.

It's funny because you left Bell for a phone which it will be receiving in the near future. Also, people like to complain quite a bit about CS from this company or that, but honestly every place has it's bad apples.

It's just the same you sometimes run into really helpful people, with almost any mobile provider if you're patient enough, make calls and complaints you'll often get a deal or lowered rates.

Anyways, Bell is far from perfect, however they are getting the diamond =PPP

Sorry I was less than accurate. My bill was $160 on average because of the combination of a killer corporate voice account and not so killer data plan plus voice and data overages. The best I could do with Bell with an account (voice & unlimited data) configured such that I wouldn't have overages even with worst case scenario usage was $106 vs $72 at Telus So the real difference had I changed my account with Bell is $34 per month.

And whose word do we have that bell will have the phone anytime soon. It was 5 months after Telus launched the s720 that bell got the 5800 for example

Even if it was 5 months, the point is, Bell or Telus eventually get the same device or something really similar in the future. It's not like the chips or hardware are different. It's all about exclusive rights for x amount of months. But hey, if you feel you found something better with Telus, good for you.

I too hate when people come in forums and talk about customer service and that's their reason for leaving, give me a f------ break. CS everywhere has it's bad and good, there isn't ONE carrier that has a perfect CS that whatever you want you get or whatever.

Agreed: people appear silly when they switch carriers for a device (which they likely won't keep for the 3 years they sign for anyways), incur an ECF, and ***** about customer service...which is lousy everywhere...

It really comes down to coverage, call quality and price.

I did this from telus to bell though last year to get my touch. Saved me 40 bucks a month going to bell too :-p I however will wait for bell's touch, hope it all works out for you though.

i couldnt agree more

switching bell for telus or telus for bell and paying ECF in the process is a little dumb if u ask me.a change to rogers makes more sense because of different technology and availability of devices.oh and CS will always have its bad apples wherever you go
