best phone maker for reception quality

My wifes cousin works at Telus. She tells me that Blackberry is the absolute best for reception and call quality... followed by Motorola.

I was originally looking at upgrading my antique Treo 650 to the HTC Touch when Bell finally gets it... however ... now I am not so sure. I saw the Touch at the Telus store, and it was alot smaller than I thought it was. I thought it would be comparable in size to the Iphone... but it seems to be way smaller.

We are thinking about finally ridding ourselves of a home landline, and are looking for a phone that will provide the best quality of reception so we can do this and not worry about static on the line.

Anyone have any ideas. My wife doesn't care about flip vs bar -for her.. it is primarily a phone. I need business apps... (Excel.. Word... Outlook... etc).

Thanks

I have to agree... Blackberries tend to have the best reception. Motorola's generally do, but I believe that feeling comes from the much older models you no longer see. Current Motorola phones have about the same reception as everything else... Unless you invest in the cheapest LG, you're going to see fairly consistent reception across the lineup.

bell already has the touch. are you talking about the diamond?

and yes blackberries has exceptional reception and call quality. i wouldnt say it beats motorola, it might be equal though. I had a pearl and it worked great. But if you want excel, word, and outlook you would be better off with a windows mobile phone because that is what it was origonally intended for. plus it is easier to enter info because of the touchscreen.

Dont let the size fool you though. even if the diamond seemed small, you will most likely not have a hard time using the on-screen keyboard.

For phones:
Sanyo
Motorola
HTC
Samsung
LG

For PDAs
Motorola
Blackberry
HTC
Palm

I know many will try to shout me down for ranking the Moto higher than Blackberry but that has been my experiance. Especially when in Victoria BC area, as towers are few and far apart, and often very close to US border. I was unable to get consistant data on my Curve 2 weeks ago, and had to wait until I was on the mainland (Vancouver) to send my emails and mms messages. The old Moto Q had far better signal out there.

As far as phones go Im surprised anyone would vote against Sanyo, as they are the model of choice for many northern ON residents due to call quality and signal

Sanyo 2300/2400/7000/7050
Blackberry 8830/8330

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/109)

Blackberry is the best device for RF I've used over the years.
