C56 Time/Cost and PIN2

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

The manual for the C56 states that a Time/Cost menu item is available on the Menu=>'Call Log'. Mine doesn't have this, it only has Missed Calls, Received Calls, Dialled Calls, & Erase Records. Does anyone know if this can be enabled? I'm using Rogers AT&T in Canada.

Also, the manual states I can alter the 'Charge Settings' for the Time/Cost if I have a PIN2 - does anyone know how to get a PIN2?

Thanks. (Apologies if these are dumb questions - its my first cellphone so I'm still learning!)

First question has been answered a few times already pls do a search as for pin2... you need to contact your service provider for that aswell as your PUK code if ever needed

Well, I've spent the last hour and a half searching the forums for an answer to the Time/Cost question and I haven't found anything which answers my question. There was another thread I found with a similar querie but unfortunately it also doesn't answer the question.

So, does anyone know how to show the Time/Cost menu item on the C56? (and I know the manual says its on the 'menu->call log' display). Or does anyone know which forum thread id may have an answer to this question, as I can't find one and I've searched with many varying key phrases?

Thanks,
Nevski

hello nevski,

looks like we're in the same boat. i just got my C56 yesterday, and i've been trying to find the time/cost menu but to no avail.

as for the PIN2, try 0061. that's what the Roger's tech support guy gave me.

hey Syncerre, can you help us out here? there's a thread at the top of this forum saying that "you're the best mod ever". how about demonstrating some of that now?

In regards to call timers... this is from pg 34 of the user manual:

You can display the charge details and the duration of calls as you speak as well as setting a unit limit for outgoing calls

Menu->Call log->Time/cost

After you have made the charge detail settings, you can display the call time/costs for the various call types ot you can display the credit balance.

Select a function:

Last call
All outgoing calls
All incom. calls
Remain. units
Charge settings

Hope that helps...

that's what i've been trying to do, but on the phone, it doesn't seem to have: Menu > Call Log > Time/cost

have you any idea what's going on?...

Hey. I got this phone a few weeks ago and I had the same problem. I called the Siemen Customer Service place and they said that it was a mistake and that the U.S. version does not have that option. Hope that helps.

The answer doesn't look good from any way you look at it.

I contacted both Rogers and Siemens customer support. The first response from both simply blamed the other without any real thought or investigation. After cross mailing the responses to both parties I got more sensible answers from both, however, the answers were not what I really wanted to hear. Basically, the Time/Cost menu appears to be disabled by Rogers as they do not support that kind of information via their network - and the C56 gets the time information from a providers network rather than by some internal timer capability. Phones on Rogers which show time information do so via an internal timer - which the C56 doesn't have.

Both responses are copied below:

From Siemens:

Thank you for contacting Siemens Customer Care.

There is no internal timer on the phone that you have.
Because of this, all the time/cost/duration information
is supplied to the phone from the Network.

If you have any other questions or problems, please
contact our customer support hotline at 1-888-777-0211,
or email us back. Our hours are from 9 A.M.- 8 P.M. Central
Time, Monday-Saturday.

From Rogers:

Thank you for your response.

Unfortunately the feature you are referring to is not supported by
Rogers network. We have reviewed your account and all of the correct features have already been added to your service. In this case, it may be your best option to visit a Rogers store. Our store representatives are truly our hardware experts and will be happy to help you in any way possible. Please utilize our online store locator at www.rogers.com to find the closest Rogers store to you.

AT&T (and I assume Rogers - aren't they AT&T or a relation?) uses phones that have modified menu systems from the factory defaults depicted in the user manuals. Ubfortunately, whoever decides what to keep and what to discard usually tosses out something that end users like us find quite useful. Another notable feature we are denied access to is the ability to turn off GPRS and save some battery life if you are like me and don't use the Internet functions. This feature was available on my S46, but AT&T deleted it on the C56 menu system, but on page 70 of the user manual I received in the AT&T box with my phone are instructions to use a non functioning area of the menu!

My US spec C56 does not have the timer feature enabled either, and FWIW neither does my S46 or my wife's M46. I've been told that the way calls work in europe, inbound calls are paid for by the originating caller, and the cell phone is only billed for outbound calls. Kinda the opposite of the way calls are billed in North America. However, never being a resident of europe, I can't say this is correct, but it really makes an interesting story / excuse for the lack of timers on this definately european phone. Maybe one of our euopean friends can verify or "poo poo" this as a clever hoax?

I hope you can find a lot of good in the C56 that outweighs the little annoyances. I too was suprised for the absence of the timers (and some of the other features denied to us), but I never get anywhere near using all the minutes in my calling plan, so I quit worrying and began to enjoy the benefits of the little pocket sized Siemens phone.

i've read somewhere on this forum that to access the S40(?)'s timer, one has to press *#05#. could the C56's timer be embedded in one of those codes as well? does anyone have a list of codes for the C56?
