legit solution to lg scoop ringtones

i have been searching on the web for two full days on how to get past the whole drm protected ringtones deal. i have tried several different methods, including but not limited to: the sony ericsson program that adds the drm protection and bitpim using my scoop's usb cable. needless to say, none of these solved my problem. and then, voila! i just figured out a way around it and it's not too complicated, which is good. first of all, you will need to have access to the web on your scoop, and be able to use data minutes. that said, here are my instructions.

go to phonezoo.com (or some other website that allows you to download free mp3 ringtones, it doesn't really matter) and create an account (it's free!). after you have done that, locate a ringtone you would like to have on your phone and click on it. instead of having phonezoo send it to your phone in the form of a text message, save it to your computer as an mp3 file (i save them on the desktop just to make them more accessible).

next, go to ventones.com and create an account (again, this one's free!). the nice thing about ventones is that they allow you to create your own ringtones, which are protected then protected with drm, allowing your phone to download them. so, go to the link that says 'create free ringtones' in the 'your tools' section on the left. on the next page it will ask you to browse your computer for the file you wish to make into a ringtone, do that. after you have found it, click on the 'upload song' button. it shouldn't take long to upload the song. once it is complete, the next page will ask you to type in a song title and artist name (no-brainer). then simply click on the 'create tone' button. this message will appear on the next page:

Alltel Users who are not able to set ringtones:
Ex: Scoop (LG UX-260) , LG Glimmer (AX-830), Blackberry 8703e, Rzr2V9, Rzr etc..
The Ringtone that you just created, will not work. Check the box below!

do what it says, check the box below. then, click the button that says 'send to phone'. it will then send you a text message. in the text, it will send you a website where your ringtone is located. instead of trying to access that website straight from your text, open the web browser and type that exact web address into the url and hit 'go'. next, it will download it to your phone without having to click on anything else. and if you've done it successfully, you will see a message that says 'download completed! and the content saved to my media'.

THAT'S ALL.

i can't tell you how stressful it was for me trying to figure all this out. that's why i wanted to post this on here for all of you, so that you don't have to go through all that i did.

if you have any questions about the process or can't figure something out, don't hesitate to e-mail me and i'll try to help you through it.

BEST OF LUCK!!!

IT WORKS IT WORKS msmischief2006 for president!!!!! yay no more payin for alltels generic ringtones!

Posted by: lowdwn169

well my excitement was a little premature. i got one to work the rest say i have a cashe problem on the phone. any hints to aleaviate?

Posted by: msmischief2006

hmmm. i'll do some research and get back to you on that one. do you have a micro sd memory card? cuz i'm thinking if you do that maybe you could just reformat it and then add the ringtones again. i've never encountered this problem...it would help if you could tell me exactly when this message pops up. is it when you're on the internet attempting to download a new ringer? or is it when you try to access the ringers in the 'my audios' section? any detailed descriptions you could give me to figure this out would help tremendously.

Posted by: lowdwn169

i got the first one to save perfectly fine but, after i go to the website on my phone it downloads then when i go to save i get the message "Error:cannot save object size exceeds max cache configured"

Posted by: msmischief2006

okay. do you have a micro sd? cuz like i said before, it could be an issue of space on your phone if you don't have an sd card. other than that, i was looking online and most error messages on phones that say something about a cache have to do with the internet. so try doing this and then try downloading a ringtone again: open the web browser on your phone. once the first page loads, go to the menu. then click on the 'clear memory' tab. check the box that says 'cache' and then hit on the 'clear memory' button (maybe even check the box that says 'cookies' just to be on the safe side). then, after you've done all that, restart your web browser and try to download one of the ringers again. hope it works, let me know either way and we'll go from there.

here's a Q & A that i found on yahoo answers that sounds similar:

Q: ive been downloading ringtones from ventones.com perfectly fine.
but now im getting a sign that says "ERROR cannot save object size exceeds max cache configured"
can anyone tell me what exacly that means?
thanks!!

A: you sent the wrong file to your phone, its happened to me before

not sure if this is the exact problem, but it's another option...

you do NOT need to change the file name or type. it HAS to be an mp3 file that is protected with drm otherwise it WILL NOT WORK. did you do any of the things that i told you to do before? there is no reason why these ringtones should not be working if you've done what i told you to do.

Posted by: lowdwn169

i have. i cleaned out all the cookies and cache and everything on my phone! the first one i did is the only one that worked. maybe i should make them smaller files? i used bitpim to make the tone then uploaded it to ventones to have it sent to me as the DRM protected ringtone. the first one worked perfect and even says its a locked DRM ringtone in the info about it on my phone

Posted by: msmischief2006

don't use bitpim at all. just do it the way that i did it. like i said, i've had absolutely no trouble getting this to work on mine with the way i said to do it in the directions i gave. even the person that responded before that has the glimmer got it to work.

Posted by: lowdwn169

awesome ill try it after i get off work

Posted by: cookie1661

I had the same problem. The first one I downloaded easily then I made another one and tried downloading it and it came up with the same message "ERROR cannot save object size exceeds max cache configured" and then i cleared all the memory from my browser and it still wont work it just comes up with that little picture of a music note and its not cause of the space cause i have alot on my phone. If anyone could help I would very appreciative.

Posted by: msmischief2006

did you type in the web address that was sent to you in the text message? or was it the one that came up after you just created the ringtone? because the only time i've seen that musical note is when i typed in the address for the created ringtone, not the one that was actually sent to me in a text. you HAVE to have ventones send you a text before you can actually download it. and the url you get in the text is the one you type in. that should hopefully solve the problem.

Posted by: lowdwn169

still got nothing. cleared everything, made the ringtone through phone zoo a still get the "error blah blah blah". im sad :'( oh well at least i got one that isnt one of the stupid factory ones

Posted by: msmischief2006

have you tried going to an alltel store or whatever your service provider is and asking them what the problem might be? they can call technical support for you and find out whether it's a problem with your phone's software or what. i might try that if i were you. it won't cost you anything and it may solve your problem. i can't imagine any reason why i would be able to get them on my scoop but you wouldn't be able to on yours. there has to be something wrong there.

Posted by: cookie1661

Ill try that but when they send me it to me through text message and i go to menu and go to website it says its not a valid URL any way to fix that?

Posted by: boosin00

Thanks Msmischief!!!
Its worked great for me so far

have you tried retyping it a few times. like i said before, it's the url you see on the website after you've sent it to your phone. i've never gotten that message before so i would think that it could just be a typing error.

Posted by: cookie1661

Thanks msmischief2006 all is working with the ringtones thanks for takin the time and replying

this one is sooo easy and common among alltel phones.....the only problem is what about the people who don't have the internet as part of their service?? tell me a solution that involves just a computer and a cell phone with a data cable....no one seems to know. FYI if you had the internet...i dont know why you were even tryin bitpim in the first place. this method is the most surefire way of doing ringtones for alltel.

the only solution i've heard that's worked for some people without internet is in fact bitpim. it's unfortunate but i searched for days and couldn't find any other way for people without internet to do it. i didn't even think of the method i use until i was searching for days. it was frustrating because i tried other sites where you have them create ringtones and they didn't use drm like ventones does. so that's why it took me a while. i would say that if you REALLY want ringtones, get alltel's combo pack that has unlimited text, internet, and data for 19.99/month for just a month if you want and download all the ringtones you possibly can. i have that plan monthly anyways so i don't have to worry about it. it's a good deal and i use it a lot. like i said, the only way i've heard of that's worked for some people with scoops is the bitpim one. although, i have no idea how some get it to work and not others. i followed their directions to a T and got nothing. sorry i can't be of more help.

So I have an LG Scoop from Alltel. and I have songs on my i want to set as a ringtone and i realize i can't do that. and when i go to Ventones i get this message about my max cache capacity. and ive cleared all my memory and everything. I've tried to do it several different times. It will not work. I don't have a USB cable but I do have a card. now my mom has a motorola razor and she somehow searched and found a way to change something in the file which then allowed the songs to work. but i dont know that that works for this phone. Someone please please please help me!!! I dont know what to do anymore...

For my env2 I tried phonezoo and all the ringtones sounded horrible.

Here's my solution, I don't have a data cable yet so I was using bluetooth to send the file to my girlfriends phone (sent to My Sounds) then texting my phone with the sound. When I receive it I just save as ringtone from the options.

Oh yeah, I was using freeware - Audacity 1.3 Beta to make the ringtones, have only tried about 30 second ones so far. It takes a few minutes to get the controls down, but it's a very simple program.

I have the LG Shine CU720 and this method you have works fine for getting ring tones but its much easier to just go to myxer.com they have more ringtones and send to most phones, but the problem im having is i would like the ringtones to go to my text message alerts which is apparently impossible for the shine because BitPim doesn't seem to work for me

Posted by: boosin00

But myxer doesnt work with alltel or verizon on certain phones

Posted by: Rhakstahr

I have an Alltel Scoop and I've tried these steps, but every time I type in the URL on my phone, it says ""The Requested Page can not be displayed". Is this a Ventones problem or a phone problem or what?

Posted by: ozarkin

I followed the instructions, but when I type in the URL it gives me an error, the URL is no good. I am ready to pull my hair out and don't have any idea of what to do.

How do you use a USB cable from PC to phone to transfer data or ringtones??

Posted by: FIreGryph

Tried this method using an LG Neon (TE365), and does not work. Still stuck with the 'DRM only' file protection stuff.
