Turn Vision Off? and symbol?

I was in vision and now not sure how to get out. Still has the little arrow bars at the top, but faded, not actively transferring. Also right above the user name on the screen (5300) is a mailbox looking symbol with a plus sign and a arrow. Don't have any messages. Powered off and on and the arrows are now gone but the other symbol is still there. Sorry for the newbie question, still learning. Thanks

You don't need to turn Vision "off". It stays on in the background. The "mailbox" means that you have a notification. You need to go to messaging and actually view the notification before that symbol will go away. Have fun! - sheureka

Went to messages and notification and there are no messages there. Any other suggestions?

Have you just downloaded new ringers or pix? You have to view them before the download sign goes away. That could be it. - sheureka

Thanks, that was it. Had just finished downloading some free games when that symbol showed up.
Another quick question. I currently have the 2 months free vision so I guess I don't mind being connected all the time. What do I do when that expires and I will probably not get vision for $15. Will it auotmatically not allow me to connect, or ask me if I want to? Also will it get expensive if I use it once or twice a week for sending pictures to upload?

If you don't continue with a Vision plan you will be charged 1 cent/kb for usage. When the arrows are grayed out there is no activity and thus no charge. But for all other uses (browsing, email, AIM, sending pix, downloading, etc.) you'll be charged per kb. Unless you're really disciplined, it will probably be cheaper to keep the Vision plan. - sheureka

You can have your phone ask you if you want to connect. Either way, like others responded, you will be capable of browsing Vision but you will be charged.

By the way, if you have a 5300 and you plan on taking pictures and sending them (since that's the only way of getting the pics off your phone), then you more than likely wanna keep your Vision plan...sending pics and downloading them adds up fast!

It would benefit you to "log off" after every internet session -- known bugs in handsets from other manufacturers cause the handsets to sporadically connect to Vision for a few seconds at a time, even while the phone is closed and in your pocket. This can have the effect of preventing you from receiving a voice call if it comes in at a time your handset is "illicitly" connected to the Vision service. I always log off after every Vision session.

My 8100 does samething. Except it reconnects by itself while phone is on DATE-TIME-Screen Saver screen. So VCI_Cell how do I log off after every internet session? Do I need to keep go to setting->vision->vision disable?

I pretty sure you can't receive a call when the data light is on with the 8100? At first I didn't notice the data light going on through out the day on it's own but I do notice now it does go off and on and kind of alot (which on the 5300 I missed a few calls) so now I also log off each time after using vision. Would be nice if the option was available on the web. I think the only way is to go into vision and disable. I have it on my shortcut. Is the any advantages or disadvantages in staying logged in or out?

1) You can't make a call while the 3G bars are solid. If you dial while they are, it will pause to close the 3G connection (making the bars go away completely)

2) The advantage to keeping logged in is that you don't have to wait nearly as long to access Vision

The log on system really only exists today as a means of erasing you Vision user name when you sell your phone. Originally, when people had non-Unlimited Vision, people that didn't use it frequently would not log on to ensure that they didn't rack up a data bill.
