GD88 Review

We all need positve reinforcement when we spend a lot of money on something. Here's a link to a review of the GD88 by Aloysius Choong in CNET Asia. Choong is in my opinion, the most formidible reviewer of mobile phones on the web. He's unaffected by corporate hype and his reviews are always well written. That's hard to find in the small community that writes about this stuff.

I see, so a very literate review from a Singapore edition of CNET should be banned. Is that what you're saying? Don't give me your childish "doh" like posting the review was something stupid. If you think that this is a place where all the kids sit and wait for the party line on phones from Mr. Howard, its "DOH" to you, pal.

Some people...

I don't care about Howard's review. In fact, I disagree with the majority of his reviews, as do a lot of people.

That review is very old and while I like it because it promotes a mobile that I like, it is has some inaccuracies in it. I agree, I thought Howard was a bit harsh on the mobile compared to some others that IMHO were much worse, he has his favorites....but hey everyone has an opinion.

I'm sorry I posted it. Everything seems to provoke controversy on Howard Forums.

Reviewing phones is a very subjective exercise. I find that the guy I posted is by far the most balanced reviewer in the biz, and I've read his reviews for a long time. Howard has always had his little favourites and if you go back and read his past reviews you see that. That isn't to suggest that he doesn't know his stuff, because he does.

No more reviews. I'm sorry. A really good, unqualified review might suggest commitment, and the one thing about this forum is that commitment to a phone lasts about a month.

It's ok to post any links to your favorite things regarding the panasonic phones here because I know you only wanted to share this with all of us and I appreciate anyone who does.People like Lost_Rebel, GD87, Devis, and many others whom I can't think of off the top of my head have contributed to our community in one way or another. Don't take it offensively when another member tells you that its all about Howards review and not someone elses. Even movies have more than one person doing reviews and not everyone is unanimous. Keep it coming!!

Thanks for your post. There are a lot of cops here.

hope your not offended at my response. I did not mean for it to sound like I was coming down on you, I was not

i don't see anything wrong with posting links to phone reviews... in fact, i would encourage it (well, as long as no one starts spamming the boards)

wrt howie's review of the gd87, i think there may be a problem with pana phones and his carrier, fido... in reviews of both the gd55 and gd87 he complained about the sound quality and rf, but from what i have read, both phones actually perform quite well in these two aspects on rogers at&t (another canadian gsm carrier)

I wasn't put off by your response at all. I was thrown by somebody who got on here and pushed this ridiculous party line, that if the review wasn't Howard's, it wasn't valid. Let me tell you something, I would rather read a review from a prominent journalsit than one from a notably partial enthusiast. Nevertheless, working a forum is like working a room. I now have the feel of this room.

Howards review sucks, basicly he couldn't find any cons, 'not enough depth and sound is thin sounding' wtf?? what kind of sound do you want in ring tones? big deal

Any review will contain an element of bias.

Also a review should be the starting point for futher discussion.

Howards review and this forum are a way of doing this. Sure everyone will have different ideas about a phone, just look at the range of comments posted by people.

At the end of the day you need to read a number of reviews and comments and then decide for yourself.

You don't need anyone else to tell you if you've made the right decision, if your happy with it then what the hell.

I was a confirmed Nokia user however some 6 months of GD87 ownership has highlighted some of the short comings of Nokia design both in hardware and software.

It sees to me that Pana have far less changes to make to improve their handsets than Nokia do.

This is of course my opinion.

I'm a Nokia guy, too scared of change, but I might swap for a GD87

Most of the posters in this thread are in the UK. I have to assume this is a hot phone there. HOFO is a Canadian forum and there isn't much Canadian interest in this phone on this forum. Mind you, Rogers AT&T just added the 88 very recently. As much as I like this phone, I'm strangely drawn the the SE 610. Tell me I'm nuts.

Forgive me. I have no idea what that means.
