Didn't know where to post it.

I know *228 option 1 programs the phone *228 option 2 updates the prl.

Note sure what each of these do
*22800 for Cellular A network
*22801 for Cellular B network
*22802 for PCS A network
*22803 for PCS B network
*22804 for PCS C network
*22805 for PCS D network
*22806 for PCS E network
*22807 for PCS F network

As for *22899 some it just update the prl, other say it does the same as doing *228 option 1

Some suggest using *22890 it update the prl.

Other say this
*22880 - force update, ignore fails
*22899 - force secondary tower update
*22800 - original tower update

What is the correct codes? I think *22899 is used if you can not program the phone by dialing *228 and picking option 1 or option 2

Please correct these codes if I'm wrong thank you.

*22899 was originally for PDA's as it provisioned extra features on the phone, but it can be used on any of the phones, ever since they changed the *228 pacing (you can't interrupt the lady any more) I have been using *22899 because it programs the phones faster. I'm not sure about the other codes, but I have been told by a couple of techs that you shouldn't use any of the *228 options besides *22899 and *228 because it creates problems in the switch.

Did the tech say using *22899 is for updating the phone or just updates the prl?

One of those code in my previous is a force option in case you not normally do *228 and use option 1. I am not sure which that is. The reason I say this, each forum or website say different things. On what each does. For some reason I can not pick option 1 or pick option 2. It will not respond to your choice.

My next question is,
What is the autoprogram number to update just the prl and not program the phone?

*22899 does the full programming, so it will update the PRL and program the MIN, MDN, AKEY, etc. The number to update the PRL but not program is *22891, but like I said the techs advise against using this and doing a full program doesn't hurt anything.

I often do *22890 and it does the same thing as *228 option 1.

So, so far it seems that:
*22890 = *228 option 1
*22891 = *228 option 2
*22899 = *228 option 1

I wonder what the differences might be between the 90 and 99 if they seem to do the same thing. Also, given that there's now option 3, I wonder if there's a "shortcut" to that using one of these dialing "codes" as well.

Doing a full program each time would rest your security code on the phone, which isn't a huge thing, but would be pretty annoying if you really needed to just get the latest PRL and nothing more.

Oh, and the *22800 through *22807, that's for if you have an unprogrammed phone. If you dial *228, it'll connect to *228 for the first CDMA network it finds (or maybe the strongest signal? Since it's unprogrammed I guess it's up to the phone). If that turns out to be like Alltel or US Cellular or whatever, it of course won't program your phone for Verizon. As long as you're in a Verizon coverage area, you instead have to dial *22800 through *22807 until you get a Verizon message (so if Verizon was on cellular A you'd get them on *22800 through if they're on PCS F band *22807). At that point it's *exactly* like regular *228, including having to give it option 1 or 2.

Edit: You'd also maybe have to do this if you had an out of date PRL (Preferred Roaming List). Verizon might have a network they bought from Unicel or West Virginia Wireless or whatever, but the phone's old PRL could prefer Alltel or US Cellular or whatever. Then you'd dial *228 and it'd probably connect to Alltel or USCC instead of Verizon, and you'd have to dial *22800 to *22807 until you find Verizon to have the phone get the new PRL.

90 and 91 is mostly used for MVNOs, like with Pageplus.

*22898 and *22888 is for Verizon INPulse Activations and ESN swaps, they are identical.

and *22899 is the ****, I love it, it programs within about 30 seconds.

*22892-93 is the OLD *228 Menu System(you can interrupt the lady) before the ESN swaps and ETC.

*22894 is a weird test system probably for engineers or possibly back door to Call Centers(?)

*22895 is a Full Phone\NAM program w\ PRL (*228 opt 1)

*22896 is a PRL Update (*228 opt 2)

*22897 is a Full Phone\NAM Prog w\ PRL (*228 opt 1)

That is old. I was watching my phone program.

SPL unlocked (Service provide unlocked) downloaded.
Prl (Preferred roaming list) Downloaded
Mon ? downloaded.

I am not sure I totally agree with the 228 options not downloading the firmware. If it is not downloading firmware, how come it reset your security code on the phone?

In order to program the NAM settings like MIN, MDN, Sending a new PRL and SID and such it has to unlock the SPL because OTA programming is essentially Manual NAM programming gone Automatic.

Firmware downloading is possible but isn't really utilized at this point in time plus the phone has to support it and not every phone does.

Watch out for *22890... I've had data features drop (reset) from this one. It hasnt happened all the time and only features. (Txt pkg, vpak, etc.) Slowly watch my DAPT fall.

I personally use *22899.

EDIT: Never mind...found what I was doing wrong. The Tour has a dedicated sym key for symbols like the asterisk.

*228 is totallly buggered up! I still can't update a phone with *228. It says equipment activation pending and won't activate. *22899 won't work at all and just hangs up. What's going on?
