Thinking getting the Archos 7 Media Tablet, anyone hear anything about this product? My girlfriend has the older version, 4th gen I think, but this new version's features looks really good. It act as a DVR with the additional dock station, 160gb HD, 7inch touchscreen, web browsing and very complete media functions. Let's share your opinion, good or bad....
Thanks!

I did some research and realized the Archos 5G will release in Dec and will have a SIM card slot for 3G service. Now the device let you chat over the air and possible of VOIP! Unfortunately 30GB is the maximum HD it packed with

Hi, how do you like the device? I am considering getting an Archos 5 or 7. I would like to use it as an alarm clock in the bedroom. I thot it would be nice because I have no TV/computer in the bedroom, I can do some light web surfing/TV watching/music listening with this while I am in the room.
However, I just downloaded the manual, it seems that the alarm doesn't have a snooze function?! Is that true? That'd totally be a deal killer.

Tell you the truth I don't even know there's an alarm function on this device, haven't use that feature yet but, I wouldn't use it for alarm, you need to wall charge it constantly which is not good for the battery anyway. For web browsing is fine, battery life is good so far, about 5hrs, wifi range is pretty good, I can easily reach a good signal. It's a little slow when navigating so you have to be patient with it. I didn't get the antenna for it so I don't know how the tv signals are. Speaker is not very loud, but you can always plug a set of speakers to. It's heavy for a portable, about 5lb, you'll need sometime to get use to it. Overall, it does the job, holds alot of movies, musics and photos. web surfing works everytime I needed. I'd rather get the 5 instead of the 7, I believe it's lighter and much easier to carry, also with more capacity compare to the 7, cheaper too of course. Hope this help.

Thanks for the info. Did you get any extra plug-ins and accessories?

I did, I got the mini dock. It have a USB port so I can transfer data from other portable HD or memory card reader and also output to TV, for around 25 bucks, not bad for the features. I bought the HD plu-in for HD movies and shows. Overall a very handly device.

archos are some cool devices better than ipod i think witch one is the best for the price
Posted by: CellphoneFreaks
Yeah, I don't like ipod or itouch, you sacrifice the screen size for larger memory capacity or vice versa, everything is connect with itune, video file need to convert
..... In this case, I have both a large 7inch screen with 160gb of HDD, good enough for any type of traveling

Hi I bought an archos 7 to play with because of the recent price drop. When I plugged it in for the first time using the wall charger, it charged for over 14 hours and the LED charge light always stayed lit, and never indicated that it's fully charged. Is this normal or the charge indicator is busted? How long does it take to charge this thing normally?

Congrats on your archos 7! I always charge with the screen on, so even the charging light stay on, I can tell by looking at the upper right hand corner of the screen to see if the battery is still charging. Normally it take quite a long time to charge full, get the docking station with rapid charge. If you planning to get the docking station, get the DVR one, it's around $80 on Amazon. It come with the remote controller so you don't have to touch the screen to move around when you conncect to your tv, it's a pain in the butt to use the touch screen feature when you plug to the tv. Enjoy!

Thanks for the suggestion.
I am having troubles with the wireless connectivity of the device. First it has to be really close to the router (<10ft) to be able to connect. And even after it's connected, the web browser seems to be the only thing which works reliably. WebTV, WebRadio and even registration caused the unit to freeze and I had to power cycle.
So far it's been pretty fustruating....

Hey, is your wifi working by now? I remember the first time I try to set it up, no wifi or extremely week signal. I believe I updated the system and it's been working fine ever since.

I don't really understand the problem. I have other devices getting into and out of my wifi without problem, but with the archos I often have to power cycle the router (interestingly not the archos) in order to log into the network.
Also playing video only works like 30% of the time. The other 70% of the time the player would freeze and I have to power cycle.
Are you suggesting that I should format the device and download and reinstall the firmware from scratch? What version of firmware are you using?
Thanks
