s55 or t610?

Hello, I've been looking around for a couple of days and this looks like a very helpful forum.

I've been thinking of getting an S55 for a long time but now I'm really getting antsy because I sent in my Ericsson R520 for repairs to Sony-Ericsson, under warranty, but they're taking forever! And I need a phone with bluetooth especially as I'll be traveling a lot this summer and with a Tungsten T this is so convenient.

Anyway, I was very close to finally putting some $ down for an S55 but now the T610 is out and it's a very tough call between those two. Some of my reservations about the S55 are:

- missed calls don't list time and date (i read this in a review somewhere, I think)
- i don't have a serial cable on my laptop (my only computer), only USB, so I don't know if I'll be able to update firmware, etc.

Believe it or not, I think those are my only reservations. With the T610 of course it's all those firmware upgrades that will no doubt be necessary. But I'm almost willing to settle on planning for a firmware upgrade a few months down the line to have all of its features.

Does anyone with personal experience with one or both of these phones have any thoughts?

Thanks.

It's been discussed in this forum already... do a search and you should be able to find thoughts and impressions on it Also there are many T610 users in the SE forum... a few have had the s55 before so check there and they should be able to give you their thoughts and opinions on what fone they prefer and why.
I have used the T610 and didn't like it at all... (I posted why last week in a previous thread) You can also ask Molna in this forum as he has used a T610 and the s55 so he can give you his take on it. Good luck.

if you need a full adressbook or a display that can be read at full sunlight take the S55, otherwise you will become happy with the T610.

the thing that keeps me from buying the T610 is the horrible design.

After living with a T68i, I refuse to buy another SonyEricsson product again.

I have an S55, and the missed call list does list time and date. The dialed/received list does not list time and date.

What FW are you using ? I am on 12 and it does list received calls time/date. It does not on dialed calls, tho.

I was also interested in the T610, bunch of features.. but I really hate the design. I didn't like also the fact it doesn't have speakerphone, since I already use it much on my S55.

You can use a USB cable for upgrading as well

Can S55 FW be upgraded via IRDA? I do not have a data cable (yet)

Posted by: gfunkdave

Nope, you need the cable. I thought all S55's come with a cable.

I bought my phone used on Ebay. It didn't come with a data cable. The seller claims that his did not have it. I have tried arguing with him about this to no avail, and have since ordered one from letstalk.com. I am awaiting it's delivery so I can upgrade my firmware (the phone is currently running v05).

Doh! Maybe he just lost it...or maybe he doesn't want to give it up.

Dunno. He claims he never had one. I guess it doesn't really matter. I got such a good deal on the phone that spending another $25 for the data cable is not really a big deal to me.

I am very, very happy with the phone, but I am always interested in running the very latest firmware on my cell phones.

I believe him if he says he didn't have the cable I met a few people the last time when I was in the UK who didn't get a cable with their s55

I guess I believe him too. He seemed like a stand-up guy and handled my purchase very efficiently. I have also read about a few shipments of S55's that did not have the data cable included.
Oh well.
