I been trying to load ringtones on my bell mobility lg voyager using bitpim. I can load the files on the phone....however, they show up under my sounds and not under my ringtones. Any idea how to get those files to show up as ringtones?
Using bitpim....I have put the ringtones...in the ringers folder and I have also put them in .../brew..../ringtones folder. Neither of these solutions work.
Help....Please...Ideas?

If they're small, you can always send them in a picture message to yourself, then "save ringtone".

I have the EnVē and I know there was a folder for "sounds" and a folder for "ringtones". You probably have the wrong one.

I am with bell mobility (canada) and I think their setup is different than verizon's. Anyways...I got it figured it out....it needs to be in the brew/shared/ringtone folder.

Can I download opera or gps software on it.

you sure you're putting them into the right category in bitpim?

put them into the "ringers" category, not "sounds". if you already are, then something is not communicating properly between your phone and the program.

hey all
so when youre putting ringtones on the phone do you have to use the sd card reader, put them in a ringtone folder and use bitpim to refresh the phone or can you do it all thru bitpim?

ringtones will not work on the phone from a SD card. they have to be put into the phones internal memory, which bitpim does. just make sure it's in the "ringers" section, and not "sounds" section.

actually i played with bitpim more and i got it to work. i was able to get it to work with internal and sd card memory. everything works fine after turning the phone off too. i have full songs that i converted using bitpim. thanks for the help!

If you have a data plan, there is another way to get the ringtones you make into your phone.

This applies to Bell Mobility in Canada and may apply to your carrier depending on how the online store software is structured.

First, create you ringtone using a program like Audacity or SoundForge. Save it using a short name you will remember to a directory you can find easily. One of my tones is Baba O'Reilly by The Who, is 30 seconds long, and is titled thewho.mp3 Tones work better if the audio file is optimized to the loudest level that is not distorted. To be safe, I use filenames without any spaces.

Next, go to rumkin.com and click on 'Sprint PCS Vision Uploader.' Yes I know, we are not using the Sprint network. It doesn't matter, we will enter by the mobile browser of the phone directly to a specific URL. You do not have to be a Sprint subscriber to do that. This website has nothing to do with Sprint anyway.

This page has two sections. I have successfully used it to upload Java games to the games folder of the phone, and to upload ringtones and wallpapers.

In the Ringers, Wallpapers section, ignore the Description box and click on browse to find your file. Select the file. Ignore the Upload To box and click the Upload File button. After the file uploads, you will be given a number that you will need to write down.

Now go to your phone.

Click on Downloads off the main screen after you unlock the phone and hit 'Applications.' Then 'Get New.'

Alternatively, start the web browser and click on the 'Downloads' tab. The screen will present several options, including 'ringtones.' Click on that.

One of the above two methods should get you to a page that presents options for downloading ringtones.

On the menu at the bottom of the screen, hit the WWW button (other carriers might require you to hit the menu button to enter an address) and enter the following address:

rumkin.com/tools/sprint/jump.php

You will get a box to enter the number you wrote down. Download the file and exit the browser.

Now go to 'settings' menu item and click on 'sounds settings.' Then click on 'call sounds.' Then 'call ringtone.' Some versions of the software may have slightly different menu structures to select a ringtone.

Now on your list of ringtones, you should see the filename you gave your saved file, minus the '.mp3'

Select your ringtone!

If you are uploading games or other apps, use the other section of the upload page. Be sure to use the pulldown menu to select which folder you want your file in.

Java apps have a .jar suffix on the end of the file. To find cool games, do a web search for a .jar file of the appropriate name. For instance, do a search on chess.jar, or doomrpg.jar or pacman.jar

These programs may or may not run on our phones, but I have successfully downloaded many games and apps to several different model phones by three different manufacturers using this uploader.

Use your imagination on finding interesting stuff. There is even a Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy Java game out there!

Good luck, and have fun!
