How long until prepaid SIM is deactive?

I recently took a trip to the UK and got a vodafone prepaid SIM. I live in the US and was wondering if they would deactivate the SIM because its not being used. Can I pop it in my phone here in the US and send a text or something every month just to keep it active?

I have a voda sim too. In my experience it's 180 days. So, if the sim is not used in 180 days it's deactivated. As you were going to do, you can send a text every 180 days to keep it alive.

hmm another problem is that i have no credit so Ill have to top off, but how do I top off in the US? can I do it online with a US credit card?

Nope. They will not take US issued credit card.

I usually buy topups on ebay.uk.

Vodafone.de allows for 1 year before its deactivated. Even after that I have walked into a Vodafone store and told them for some reason my sim does not work, next day the german postman is droping off my new sim ( lat time with a 5 euro credit )

I topped off a Vodafone IE card with a US issued visa from the front page of the webpage. If I logged into my account it would not let me do it.

Regarding the expiration date I would just email customer service.

Vodafone Ireland credit is valid for 180days. You can receive calls for 180 days after your credit expires and they deactivate your number. Even after that you have 6 months to call in and have it reactivated. You would have to top up then.

My Vodafone UK prepaid SIM has deactivated a while back but even then I can still receive SMS from friends that send to that number.

I find this theft of people's credit to be reprehensible and wrong. Where is the eu to outlaw this practice? This is a much needed consumer protection.

You are lucky you are not in canada.. forget to top up and you lose your balance.. Europe is a far better market.. in my case I love the fact I can buy a 20 euro pkg with sim and its good for a year! now thats awesome..
