Question about 1.6 ELs and 97 Preludes

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: spiritofevil99

Is it possible to change older models of ELs (97-98) and the 97-98 Prelude front grill and replace it with the new grills of the models from 99-00 EL and for the prelude's 99-01 Grills? You know how they changed the grill a bit with that black meshy look?

And if you can change it how much would it cost to buy it approx?

What is an EL?

Posted by: Sfkn2

It's easily swappable (sp?). If you're looking for a Prelude gril, go check www.preludeonline.com - they have a fair ammount of members so you should be able to find it easily. It shouldn't cost more than $30 USD new, though. If you want, you can also check hparts.com . GL

The CR-V is based on a Civic platform? The civic is a car whereas the CR-V is more of a SUV type vehicle.

Posted by: The Rex

my friend has a black "meshy"mugen grill on his 1.6 el... it looks really nice... you should consider it

Posted by: mugenpower

Although based on the Civic, the Acura EL has slightly different styling and is a bit more luxurious and powerful than its Honda sibling. I drive the 1.7EL (half-riced).

Posted by: spiritofevil99

The custom meshy thing doesnt have a classy look to it so I like the honey comb like grill that the 99 and 2000 came with. BTW mugenpower, nWo 4 life!

yup, it's based off the civic platform... well, i know the first gen one was at least...

not really SUV type... still drives like a car... another example of a car-based sport ute would be the highlander, which is based off the camry

Posted by: spiritofevil99

so can anyone confirm that the EL and Lude can interchange grills between the years?

do we have anyone here with lots of EL knowledge?

Posted by: spiritofevil99

btw if I buy a used prelude grill, does it have to match the body color of my car or does it not matter?

yup, crv is based on the civic platform.

just like how the accord and prelude share the same platform.

or how the new accord, cl and tl<?> share the same platform.

All Prelude grills are black, well, except for the JDM ones.

Posted by: spiritofevil99

cool cause I heard EL you gotta buy grills that match the body color too

Posted by: edwinx

I've never seen body color matching grills for the EL, are u you its not aftermarket?

why not just buy a grill and paint it?

Posted by: Gatorade

The 98 EL looked much better than any civic

Some guy from the Vancouver Prelude forums told me this problem about the 5th Generations Auto Tranny:

"The Sportshifts (SS), available from '97 to '01, are known to be weak. Now, that doesn't mean that every single SS is going to need to be rebuilt or give you problems. However, keep in mind that if you do purchace an SS, particularly a used one which is your only choice is now, budget in a tranny rebuild.
Honda has admitted to this by extending the warranty (to 7 years I believe) on all '00 and '01 SS Preludes. Sadly it does not cover the '97 to '99 SS Preludes."

Have you guys heard anything about this?

Posted by: edwinx

nope, haven't about this b4.

heard about a suspension recall thing and that ATTS is sensitive when you increase a lot of horsepower to it.

check out the lemon guide from a library or something.

There's sucha guide?

Posted by: edwinx

yup!!
search on the net or library...

Posted by: spiritofevil99

What is it called exactly?

Posted by: spiritofevil99

btw there is this 98 EL Premium Im looking into but there is this spoiler on it that I dont like:

The spoiler is a SIR spoiler....

Heres a pic

http://www.geocities.com/hlkimfung/EL.html

And does the car look a bit pink to you?

The seller told me the following things (I wonder if he goes on this bored )

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"well it make no sense to take the spoiler off, since it cost a few hunderd to fill the holes and paint the truck lid, which is an extra cost bear by you and me eventually"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does it really cost that much to fill it up?

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"keep in mind that there's a $3000 accident
I was drving downhill and lost control and the car smash onto the curb

bumper, hood, fender and door are damage, all replaced in a Acura recommended shop, and it's only cosmectic, and run fine

tell me if you're still interested, and I'll take some pic

abou the price, as my freind said, I really don't know how much it's worth and how much the accident should brought it down"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other specs of the car:

98 EL Premium

The Pinkish Purple color
Auto
50K

The car is about 16,000 obo...

IF I do get this car, I was gonna get rid of the spoiler, get rid of the sticker in the back. trade grills for a 99-00 EL and also get some 99-00 Premium rims...is it not worth it for me to go through all this? I mean could I get a 99 Premium for around $16k in BC?

Posted by: edwinx

oh the color is supposed to be like that.

its a metallic purple greyish color.

kinda nice.
not too girly...well..not for me ..ahah

Posted by: spiritofevil99

So what do you think of that deal?

Posted by: edwinx

I think you can do better.

I did a search on buysell.com and there were 99 integras for about 14900+

so, i'm sure you can do better.

Posted by: spiritofevil99

can you keep an eye out for me?

Posted by: edwinx

hmm... try this ?

http://buysell.com/results.asp?id=2116&r=9&i=414

Posted by: Sfkn2

Uh...... if you don't like the spoiler, just switch the trunk lid with someone.. I'm sure there are people out there who wants the spoiler.

As for the Prelude sissy stick tranny, it is warrantied for the 1999+ Preludes up to 100,000 miles or 10 years.

Posted by: spiritofevil99

I dont get why ppl get so pissy on Automatics. Its innovation, its technology! Accept it. It was developed so you can be lazy and not have to shift all the time.

Easier on city driving...driving manuals in a city with many stop lights, and hills its no fun

manual isn't so bad......in any condition

Posted by: spiritofevil99

I dont think manual is bad either...I just dont like it when ppl keep labeling ppl that drive autos as sissies...

Posted by: edwinx

is mostly when ppl buy sports cars and want auto cause they're too lazy to learn manual or complain about manual.

Posted by: spiritofevil99

I can drive manual but I am too lazy to use it

Posted by: edwinx

-gets better gas mileage
-less waste of hp
-cheaper to buy
-more control over the car
-u learn more about ur car

its a good compromise

Posted by: spiritofevil99

well my bro has a manual already so If i feel for a manual every so often I drive his car but I want to find an auto for myself...thats all
