GD55 and AT&T Voicemail/sms indicator

Has anyone had a problem with the new GD55 and receiving notification of voicemail? My friend is running it on AT&T and doesn't get any notification (via icon or sms message) that he has a voicemail...

he's suppsoe to get a txt msg...if not....then ur doom becuz theres no voicemal icon
