<X-files theme song> Weird. Why then am I not getting messages on all of the previous phones I still have?

This happens all the time.
Don't give your phone to your girlfriend for a day or two.

That happened when I swapped my a640 with a u740. It stopped after a bit and now if I try to use the a640 it gives me a Bell message saying "Welcome to the Bell network" or something like that and tells me to activate the phone.

If a phone is programmed with the MIN, it will receive text messages as long as it's in the vicinity of the same tower serving your new phone, even if it's not activated on the account.

You've discovered one of the great security flaws with SMS on CDMA devices....
Thank goodness for Blackberry and the far more secure PIN messaging.

I spoke to a woman one day, her boyfriend was using the flaw to spy on her.

this is common with Bell phones...it is why it is important to reprogram the MIN to 000-000-0000 if you switch phones and want to retain your privacy.
alternatively, if you want to spy on your reps, program a loaner with their MIN number and you will get every SMS on it.
