can I unlock Verizon phones for use on Airvoice prepaid?

Ok, I'm not very techie so excuse me if this is a stupid question.

I'd like to get on Airvoice prepaid (CDMA), and they basically said to get an unlocked Verizon phone (since Airvoice doesn't provide phones, just minutes). They are a very low-fi company with not much support, but hence the minutes are ridiculously low.

I cannot get a straight answer out of Verizon or others about whether it's possible to unlock a Verizon phone for use elsewhere.

I've been looking at Motorola Rzr's on ebay which are CDMA Verizon off-contract phones. I did find a LG VX8300 which the guy claims is unlocked from Verizon.

any help on this is much appreciated!

VZW phones aren't actually locked, so you should be good to go.
