I just downloaded the new 4.6.1.112 through the DM update feature. The software has a couple of new addidtions, like DirectSend message, sports and entertainment folder. It seems to be working well so far.

Got mine installed and everything works fine. Even bluetooth voice dialing and voice recorder.

Do you have to have a blackberry plan for the text message to work? I just got the 8350i and i have a text message plan but its not working. I dont even have the compose mms option

Yes. Blackberry service is required.

I've heard there's some opera 4.2 bugs with the .112 software.

I conncected mine to desktop manager and checked for updates and found the software update, installed without any problems, just need about 30-40 minutes to run the update.

I see the new direct send messages icon, but it doesnt do anything. I do not see the sports and entertainment folder you mention.

Wonder if there is a way to turn off those direct send notifications i get whenever someone dc's me

Spoke with Nextel / Sprint CS last night and the guy read an email to me that he received regarding the .112 update.

Basically, it was released in error and has caused numerous phones to lock up and need replacement. In addition, it was not fully developed and tested which is why the direct send folder was not working properly and some third party applications were incompatible. There WILL BE a fully functional update released in mid February.

The tech advised me to re-install the .83 software and wait for the final version to be released. If I continue to use the phone with the .112 update I am basically on my own if I have problems since it is NOT being supported by Nextel / Sprint.

However, my sms/mms has been working perfectly

New SW update due out 2/11/09.
Not sure if it will be OTA, but will be available on Sprint.com/downloads, and I assume the Blackberry site...

Check DM. New 8350i software is now available. I upgraded last night and the phone is working fine. The new version is 4.6.1.128

i saw the same thing, the new 128 software is available, however i have tried about 20 times to upgrade the software and i keep getting a fatal error has occured on my desktop manager, then it quits back to the main menu, been on the phone with sprint for over an hour and they are no closer to helping me figure it out either... any suggestions

update from my earlier post.... after 2 hours on the phone with nextel they finally got this update on my phone installed. worked great until i reset my phone, then i got the wonderful APP ERROR 200 message, spent another hour on the phone with nextel just for the rep to say my phone has become a paperweight and i have to go to a nextel store tomorrow to have them replace my phone. so yay..... new update, new phone, new problems

Ok, so the update put out by sprint has been out long enough for at least some people to have played around with. I think there might have been a thread on here or it may have been crackberry i cant remember. Anyways here is what i experienced, please share yours. I never had mms issues that i havnt had with any other nextel phone, my speaker echo only happened when my in call volume was at max, so beyond that i was fine. With this new update however, i cannot get menus to work for programs such as: opera mini, bolt and my google maps worked horribly. I reversed my update. not having menus in my favorite apps is no bueno, so i guess does anyone have a fix for this? that would be cool.

Just talked to blackberry cs. There is a national outage of mms/sms on the sprint/nextel network which started late monday/early tuesday. Problems vary from not being able to recieve texts, not being able to send texts, or both. Rep told me there is no known date for the issue to be resolved, but she said hopefully soon. She also said there is another software update for the 8350i coming out in april.

ummmm yes, i understood that the first time. apparently, you don't know what i'm talking about when i said opera and bolt. they are apps on an 8350i.
