(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

First of all, thank you for answering my question, (just registered)

And I have a few more question on S40/S42, wish you can help me

1) If I buy the "parallel import" S40/S42, will the Siemens in Hk upgrade the software for me? Or I have to buy the phone from the Siemens store in order to get their support.

2)Is there a cost for upgrading the software?

3)where do you get your phone? and how much? Is it a parallel import good (the water good) or you got it from the Siemens store?

4)I know if I buy the parallel import S40, the battery charger will be American standard which is 110V, and if I buy from the Siemens store, then it's gonna be HK standard. So which one is yours?

5)Is the phone gonna operate perfectly after upgrading the software?

please try to answer my question because someone is gonna get the phone for me from hk, and I jsut wanna make sure everything before I get.....

* I'm just gonna answer it generaly, if u want to upgrade the software u can just call siemens : 1-888-777-0211 and tell them u need to upgrade the software for u're phone and they will ask * for u're datie, name, email, imei for u're phone , etc
For battery charger, I belive the Travel chargce have output for 90-240 volts so u dont have to worry bout it :P
* My phone is actually a gift from my cousin and he live in Denmark, and he bought the phone there.
* Yes it will operate like it should be !! as long u have the newest revision which is 3.20, mine is !!
* The phone from Hong Kong ?? I dont know if the siemens will void the support or not cause from what i know, Siemens S40 is not supposed to be available in Asia which is will be a BM <-- i'm not so sure about this !! But anyway , i think siemens will accept u're phone because its their phone doesn't matter where u get it and nobody ever open the phone for service, cause it will void the warranty :P

Nuff Said Hope it help

Btw the phone number that i put above is in US , dunno bout Canada but u can give it a try it's TOLL FREE )

1) Don't know much about the S42 but i'm sure Siemens will upgrade all their phones for free. Probabally even parallel import goods too (not sure, i'll ask). I finally have a chance to do it tomorrow. Whoopee!

2) No. Just bring the phone to Siemen's Wanchai office and they will do it for free. Well that's what they told me.

3)Is there a "Siemens Store"? Never seen one.
No real need to buy "watergoods". I bought mine from China Mobile for $2298HKD. I'm sure you can get it cheaper but thats not bad. You may also be able to get a deal from a SP like Smartone or New World (the sell for around $1600 with activation) but that not be the best if you plan on bringing it back to Canada. But say if your friend or you know someone in HK that already has a contract with a provider, try to get them to activated it as their "second phone" and then sell it to you. It will be much cheaper.

H.L, didn't you get your's from Smartone?

4) Well mine is a "hong fau" product of HK so it came with the standard charger. However, the voltage is compatible with 110v but you to buy a seperate adapter for the plug to fit.

5) ask howard, hehe

H.L., anything to add?

pppp questions...here the answer

1) parrallel import? you mean "water product"? you need receipt in order to get support and warranty from siemens

2) cost...I didn't pay a penny and they gave me a new phone when my phone crashed. I will do upgrade in hk next week, I'll post after upgrade in HK

3) I got my from Siemens, NOT "water product", $2780hkd ($361usd) when it first came out. My dad bargained with the sales and got $100 discount

4) you should buy from siemens. END... water product won't be cheaper($100 cheaper MOST). If you see my post earlier, my phone was replaced under warranty!!

5) Again, my firmware is March-April verison (not sure the verison #)...no problem until now. I crashed my first phone when composing songs

Personal suggestion, if I don't go back to hk, I won't send my phone to Taxas(wherever there is) and get it upgrade. except if sending w/ courier or whatever express, coz scare if it is misplaced...Also, I am in Canada, if they mail it back to me, not sure if the custom of Canada will charge me any tax!!!

thanks to those who answered my question.
and that helped me a lot....on deciding whether to buy the S40 or the T39

cause I thought there are many problems with the S40 on the software thing
now I know how to solve it

so...you guys are suggesting to get the phone from an appropriate phone dealer instead of the "water product" just for the reason of warranty security from the Siemens?

Posted by: H.L.

pay $100 for 1 yr warranty, I think it's worth it...

oh well, just my opinion...

Posted by: H.L.

go for S40, you will love it

After dealing with Cingular for almost 1 whole day, I figure out that buying the "Cingular non-official supportedL phone is a big mistake for myself. I'm unable to use the WAP function at all.

Even though later when Cingular supports S40, I still may not be able to use my current S40 to go to WAP. The reason is that they will have Cingular specific WAP browser for the phone instead of the one in firmware 3.20.

That sucks because there are many new tri-band GSM phones are coming out, and I can't use those phones (WAP or other advanced features) with Cingular.

I really hope the new GSM AT&T won't do the same thing as Cingular.

t39 and s40... um.. really hard to choose...

updated price.. s40-$2000 hkd.. t39-$2700hkd..

for the appearence... both looks great.. s40 with cool blue and silver cover and blue screen... for t39 has a pure white cover...

but... one have to mention is.. t39 has bluetooth build in..

and.. i am using s40.. works great... =)

any one suggests where can I get the S40....in hk?
which store..?

and...which place provides better service and the PRICE......in hk?

Posted by: YingKit

i bought mine in SmarTone.. was about $2800.. since was long time ago...

and now.. the price should be dropped to $1800-2000... anywhere in Monk Kwok...

what i know is.. if u want to use it in canada or usa.. just say.. anywhere outside from hk.. then no matter ur s40 is "water good" or "hong good".. US siemens will still give u full warranty.. since my friend's s40 is water good.. and he also can send back to US siemens for upgrade...

and.. one more thing is... buy all accessories in hk.. Toronto has none of those.. stupid Simpro.. haha...

Excuse the dumb question, but what is meant by "water product" or "hong fau"? Does it refer to something that is fake or copied?

Posted by: cake

"water product" means the product which is not officially selling by the local dealer. It's still a real product, but is not for the local market. For example, the "water product" Sony digital camera doesn't have chinese/english manual. It only has Japanese manual because it supports only selling in Japan only.

"hong fau" is officially selling by the local dealer.

Get it?

Posted by: H.L.

hong for: sold by dealers for local market, fully cusomter/tech support and provide warranties. The product will use the same watt as it draws power from the wall socket in HK (220W?). Definitely, it is a bit expensive.

Waterproduct: Something N.american like the most. Cheap, 110W, updated. It does NOT have any warranty, it's just a junk if you break it. Import directly from orignal maunfacture country (ex: waterproduct version of S40 is directly from Germany).

5/10 electronic stuffs in my house are waterproducted. They are still working just fine, but it is headache to understand each button. Just like my first generation antique MD player (4 years ago), took me 2 years to figure how to input song title.

Anyway, there is a little thing ppl have to understand before buy japanese "water product", I remember the Watt japanese uses is 100W...and N.America is 110W. That 10W can kill your hi-fi or whatever, some even will cause fire in the house, that's what I heard long time ago...

excuse my bad grammer...too tired recently, can't concentrate

Very interesting Cake. Thanks for the info.

I am just wondering what is the price of the phone in hk...
because everyone told me the different price..so I am confused...

where/which store can I get the better deal? And at what price?

is it ok if I buy the parallel import s40?
if so...will I get the right to upgrade the software from Siemens?

sorry for being that annoying......
since I am a poor student....need to make sure everything...

Posted by: H.L.

whatever you like.

as I know, water product is one or few hundred bucks cheaper. I think siemens in US will support.

I got my from smarttone (is this the name?) $2680 (March price)

Posted by: YingKit

i got mine in Smartone too.. and is about $2700 hkd...

however.. what i notice that the price drop down to $1900 in hk... but i am not sure where u can get it.. maybe just go to monk kwok and find them easily...

no matter is a "hong good" or "water good"... US siemens will still get a upgrade for your phone.. =)
