I have a friend who will be in town (montreal) for a few months and is looking to get a pay as you go mobile phone. Which is the cheapest carrier to go with? Telus, Rogers Fido or Koodo....can you tell me what their rates per min are and the different options?

Thanks.

The cheapest and best will depend on usage/call patterns.

For example, I personally went with Rogers prepaid because I felt that it had features that I liked yet I purchase Petro Canada Mobility for my parents since I felt that it was good for them.

Depending on usage patterns, Rogers prepaid is not the cheapest. The rate that I have for my Rogers prepaid is $0.25 for the first 5 minutes of usage in the day and $0.15 for every minute after that and includes unlimited incoming SMS. The monthly 911 fee with Rogers is $0.50. I doubt that Petro Canada is the cheapest also but their rate is $0.20 per minute with a monthly $0.99 for 911 fee with a $0.05 per SMS sent/received.

I believe that Fido's prepaid rate is cheaper than Rogers. For me, I didn't go with Fido prepaid because I wanted a long expiry date and Fido doesn't have any 1 year expiry date airtime options.

By the way, in my opinion, a better place to post this question would probably be: http://www.howardforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=395 since you are asking a question about Canadian prepaid carriers and I'm not sure how many Canadian members come to this general questions thread.
