So, anyone on HoFo anticipating its release?

Posted by: chaps

From what I have read of it, I am going to get it. My other choice was the Moto V600 but this phone is now top of the list.

Yeah I got to say I am excited about this phone. I use to use the Sidekick, then switched over to the nokia 3650, due to the SK's poor recetpiton. However I miss the keyboard a lot. Anyone ever use the old treo's how was the reception?

Yeah, I heard the old Treos were poor as a phone. I actually have high hopes of the 600 myself.

But, if its CDMA wouldn't you need to get another cell provider in order to use it? Might get expensive.

The press release says that there will be two versions, a CDMA and a quad-band GSM - I'm assuming that is 900/1800 and 850/1900 - fantastic! The only thing that I can think of that is missing is built-in bluetooth.

There's always a catch....

Posted by: markrogo

At least is has an SDIO slot so that a future Bluetooth card can be added and not really stick out much if at all.

Is the 160x160 greater than that of my nokia 3650? I don't know what the res on that phone is...

Wirelessly posted (UPG1 UP/4.0 (compatible; Blazer 1.0))

I myself am using a treo 300 right now (literally, because I am posting from it!) and I will be the first to snap up the new treo when it comes out this fall. If you go on c|net right now, you will see that there is a good write up along with a video demonstration of the new device... I use my treo 300 as my primary phone thoughout the day and the only things I would change about it are:
Longer battery life- 2 hours of talk time and I have to run for the charger... I wouldve like to have seen a removeable battery but the Treo600 claims 6 hrs talk time... that's real good in my book.
Better screen- I too wanted high rez, but more than anything I wanted a screen that can play well indoors and outside like the tungsten|t's.
SDIO/MMC- this was the killer for me. I waited for the Kyocera 7135 because of this, but we Sprint users never got it. instead we get the wannabe i500 which is neutered! hello, I have more stuff than 16MB can hold! Gimmie my SD slot so I can add bluetooth, wifi, memory, etc...
Camera- I didn't think I would use it until 2 yers ago when in Japan I got a camera phone... now that I use one all the time because of my job (i work for sprint) I can't imagine being without one. I used it the other day to send my girlfriend a picture of a part I needed for my car. she was already at the autoparts store but had no idea what to tell the salesman I needed. she showed him the picture on her 8100 and I saved myself a trip up there...
So when we get the new treo 600 in stock at least one will be sold that day at my store... for me!

Checkout this thread for lots of pics on the new Treo 600!!

My t39 and Tungsten T are for sale right now.

Would I/you buy a 600 now?

Posted by: MrSteve

I read that Samsung is also releasing a GSM version of a Palm Smartphone utilizing the palm 5.0 OS with 32mb of memory and a SD slot

Note this is not to be confused with the SCH I500 which only will use the Palm 4.0 and have only 16 mb of memory

I have owned Samsung phones in the past and am always impressed.

I think later this year when either the Treo 600 or the Samsung SGhi500 comes out, I will have to get one of those.

Most likely the Samsung as I think the keys on the Treo look tiny

only problem with Bluetooth SD cards is they don't support voice profile, at least the Palm ones

Posted by: mognet

I'm stuck between the treo 600, Nokia 6600, and Siemens SX1.

Can the palm OS control functions in the phone like Series 60 phones? I read in an article that handspring has made it possible for developers to access the audio functions. But what about something like Mini GPS, which would change profiles as you change locations?

I guess the deciding factor would be RF and battery but I also love datebook 5 on palms.

I am interested in seeing the new Samsung as well but having had the Treo 270 for a while now, I am stuck on the keyboard. I don't know if I would want to go back to grafitti.

Leaning towards the Treo 600.

lol i had a treo 180... and loved the keyboard.. and i switched to the kyo 7135... missed the keyboard though.. love the 7135 still.. but i am looking foward to the treo 600!!... back to gsm again lol..

Now i'm really excited about treo 600. It has everything I could possibly need. Plus my Handspring Visor Prism is really old and beat up. I think the treo 600 is the phone for me.

Palm and at least one other company are actively working on a new Bluetooth SD card that will work with Palm OS 5 and PDA phone devices. If and when they get one working, we'll have BT for the Treo.

That would be great...but it may need dual slots because i need to have an sd card for applications.
