You have not explained exactly what the problem is. WiFi calling is a very big subject with a lot of different approaches. I assume you are talking about UMA calling with something like T-Mobiles H@H? My understanding is:

1. Yes you get calls like normal when you are on a WiFi hotspot.
2. You have to connect to the access point before it will work. It won't break encryption for you or log you onto hotspots you have not paid to access. If you have a phone that supports it, I suggest you look at Boingo Mobile (www.boingo.com). For about $8/mo they give you unlimited mobile access to zillions of hotspots worldwide.
3. That's the idea but you may be able to set the phone to do otherwise.

Now, having said that, I have a Nokia E61 with SIP VOIP built in. I use WIFI VOIP in a completely different way. Your questions would have different answers with my phone.

well i guess i want to know how do i get my phone to work in a basement of a building or where where there is no cellular signal but there is a wifi signal or can it even be done?

where i work (a large university)i constantly loose signal due to the building steel and such but i do have access to the wifi and a login and password that i can use to connect with my laptop

looked at that boingo and they dont offer wifi for the bb curve a friend has that with his tmobile but says he has never needed it so he wont use it .if i had to change phones so be it but i like my blackberrys

You might look at two possible services:
1. Truphone.com gives you a voip client on your phone (not sure which makes and models) and a phone number somewhere. People call that number. If you are connected via voip it rings the voip otherwise it rings your mobile.
2. Grandcentral.com. A single number that forwards to other numbers at once and can be picked up on any of them. This can be your office, cell or Gizmo voip SIP line. If your phone has a SIP client you can get a free Gizmo Project account (gizmo5.com) that Grandcentral will forward to.

I was playing around with Fring this afternoon. It probably isn't for me, but it can be described as wifi calling.
