Urgent advice re Siemens A55

I am a real newbie. I am leaving in two days for Australia and New Zealand. Several years back I purchased a Siemens A55 through Telestial and used their SIM card in Europe. I understood the phone would accept other SIM cards. Is that true and will it work with SIM cards in AU and NZ using cards purchased there?

Can anyone tell me the code you use without the SIM card to see if the phone is unlocked?

u can insert any sim card, if u can see menu and other options so ur a55 unlockerd.
