Best 3g phone with the best reception?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have an iPhone and I want to sell it and get something else and use the AT&T sim card. The iPhone's reception isn't the greatest. I had the Tilt before the iPhone and it had better reception than the iPhone.

It doesn't really have to be an AT&T available phone, I could look on eBay or some other place for an unlocked phone.

I am not 100% sure of which phone out there has the best reception possible. But it has to be 3G, has a real keyboard and that's about it. I was looking at the Nokia N95, but not sure if it has the best reception.

Any help appreciated.

N95-3 has great reception but it has no qwerty.

It's better than the iPhone for sure though right?

Moto Q9h has phenomenal reception. Best of any phone I've ever had.

This is truth. The Blackberry Bold is also solid but not as much as the Moto.

100% agree with ya there, I have been very pleased with the TILT's reception. I can say the same for the 8525 as well, great job HTC.

The E71 has been very good on 3g (1900mhz) as well, extremely pleased.

BJII was abysmal, stay away.

I don't know whether 3G 850 is active in NYC or something
my LG CU515 has very good reception, as good as 2G 850 on my K790a

Believe it or not, my Treo 750 got some of the best reception of any phone I've ever had. The RAZR2 V9 is pretty good too. However, the best I've ever had was a Moto Q9h. Pulled in a signal anywhere, even in real fringe areas of northern NJ.

Yeah, the only problem with HTC devices is that they use Windows Mobile, which I hate. I stopped using WinMo devices and will not go back to them. Too many slow downs and memory leaks. I love OS X on the iPhone but the reception is killing me, too many dropped calls when driving around with the bluetooth headset on.

Most people who are new to AT&T blame the service because their iPhone's don't have good reception. I know better that it's the phone's fault.

I want to steer away from the Q9h because it's a WinMo phone. I was looking at the Blackberry bold, not sure if it's worth it. I want the BEST reception possible, I can sacrifice a few phone features (except 3G and Bluetooth). I'll probably keep the iPhone and use it as a secondary phone or something.

Palm treo pro,
I hear it has outstanding reception.

Posted by: zephxiii

IMO it isn't, but that's my opinion. E71 has pretty good reception though If you need something more multimedia orientated, 5800 Xpressmusic NAM. I don't know about its RF performance yet though...E71 kicks *** though, ESPECIALLY for the price.

Another vote for Q9H. Reception rocks. Love the phone

I just got a Treo Pro. It has very good reception, but not as good as the Q9h. It is a great device however.

Also with the e71 data plans start at $15.

Though I have the Iphone 3G, my vote goes to my wifes Nokia 6650. Awesome battery and signal, best non QWERTY and touchscreen phone plus Symbian

The Q9h is the best speakerphone I've ever used. I live in an excellent coverage area, so they all seem to work the same for me.

I will say though I get nothing but excellent coverage with my iPhone.

I have been getting signal on my iPhone 3g comparable if not better than my N95-3. If you wanted a non smartphone the Moto Tundra has the best signal out of any at&t phone i have seen. My friend has one and it beats the signal of my n95 and iphone.

i still like the v3xx has great reception.

If you are willing to go without the qwerty...I would suggest the Nokia N78. Its the best reception phone I've used.

Fuze is good too atleast for me

Using a very good E71-2 now

BB Bold all the way, in terms of build quality, features, battery life and repution along with available apps and the bb messenger rocks when it comes to saving on the # of text messages used.

The reception on the Moto Q9h is unbelievable! At home in my basement and at work where my other phones (Treo 750, Blackjack, Moto SLVR L7) struggle to work, the Q9H just works normally with full 3G signal and very clear calls as if you are not in a basement at all.

How would you compare the fuze to the tilt? I've been very impressed with HTC's RF performance, hopefully the legacy continues!

I'll second that. My Q9h has amazing RF, AND a great speakerphone, and a ringer loud enough to wake the dead. My wife's iPhone, and my Nokia 6263, do not compare. Only thing remotely close on RF is my Moto Z9.

Motorola Q9h.....

Hands down the BEST Motorola I have owned.

And thast's saying alot coming from me....

Recent phones: V3xx, Q9h
Older phones: Nokia 3595/6010, V3

Motorola V3xx

As for an older phone...I recall my Sony Ericsson W810i having great reception too

Of the ones I've used; I would say my Bold and current 3g iPhone (Yes I said it.) I recently purchased my 3rd iPhone 3g (sold the others) and this phone gets the same amount of signal as my bold; my previous iPhone 3g devices did not do this good. It came installed with 2.2.1...

It has been a while since the original poster started his thread. I'm curious what he decided to get.

Of the phones that I have used recently, I have to say that the Motorola Q9h is the clear and away front runner for RF signal capture. In an infamous zero-bar signal area between Culpeper VA and Orange VA, it is the only device I have ever used that will hold onto a call through that area even though it's showing zero bar signal.

Of the other devices I've used recently, I'd say that the Nokia E71-2 is second behind the Q9h.

The HTC-made devices like the Xperia and the Fuze are quite a bit behind those two, IMHO. The Xperia can benefit by tweaking the radio versions, which are generally available at the XDA Developers site.

The Bold for me seems to be a little better than the Fuze and Xperia if all you're looking at is RF signal capture. But it's still behind the Nokia E71-2, and in my part of the world it's quite a ways behind the Motorola Q9h.

The benefit I have when testing RF signal capture is that I frequently drive that notorious stretch of road and it's very clear to me what devices will and will not hold a call in that extremely low signal area where you might be able to hold a call only if you're on a very good device. :-)

Is that with not touching or holding the bottom of the FUZE?

I hate having to take any particular precautions when using a phone. If you have to stand on your head holding the phone with two pinky fingers, it's dumb.

I realised immediately on making my first Xperia call, for example, that it was a stupid design because the tiny external speak was likely to be covered on many occasions by the hands of users who are just doing things the way they would with any phone.

:-)

In point of fact, however, my experience with the Q9h, Xperia, E71-2 and Fuze were with the devices in the door handle of an Accord HFP Coupe, using a Parrot handsfree.
