Just had a call from CRC about my replacement handset.

Seems I'm going to end up with brand new, sim free version with A39.

I think this may mean its unbranded as well.

So whatever the real reason for all the problems I'm just holding my breathe till tommorow when the new handset should arrive.

Then its entering all the wap/e-mail settings etc.

Good Luck!

Been looking at some pictures of a GD87.

Seems to have been so long since I've seen one LOL.

Just be glad to get rid of the crappy Moto Timeport I borrowed from the office.

The menu structure is absolutely hopeless and the screen clarity is very poor. Just shows how handset design has improved.

Its finally arrived.

Brand new, unbranded, sim free handset.

Not had much chance to play yet but, its got A39 and the games are Tetris and Sheep Herding. Got to say Tetris looks OK, certainly better than Wallbraker.

Once I've had time to sort it out I'll no doubt be posting some questions as some of the menu options look different.

One interesting thing the start up shows the Orange splash screen.

Also unded up with another charger as I didn't send the other in with my old handset.

Excellent!

Well started having a play and some things are immediately apparent.

WAP/GPRS access - much better, both connects and disconnects quicker and seems more reliable.

Menu navigation seems more responsive and text entry on SMS is also better.

Some other small changes operator name is now all uppercase and the icons for the softkeys on the idle screen are in grey boxes, I assume this is to improve clarity.

Hoping for the sometime mentioned better battery life as well.

Also don't know if its my imagination but ringer and earpiece volume seem better than my old handset, probably more related to the new handset rather than the software.

Anyway first question re the new software I've noticed an option in the DISPLAY SETTINGS which is OPERATOR NOTICE. Can't recall this being there before (though I may be wrong). What does it do as I can't see any changes if its enabled or disabled?
