Upgrading to FW version 12?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have searched this forum, but need to ask this question... My S55 is currently running FW version 05 .... is there any danger in going from version 05 all the way up to the latest (12)? Should I be upgrading one version at a time, or is it safe to go from 5 to 12? Is there any reason why I should NOT do this upgrade? I just got my data cable and I don't want to screw up my phone.

Thanks.
Scott

There's no danger in going from vsn 05 to vsn 012. As for your question of is there a reason why you shouldn't do the upgrade... well many people are satisfied with vsn 012 but there are also a few that have experienced issues with firmware vsn 012. So you choose to not do 012 may want to consider installing f/w vsn 011 as it has proven to be quite stable.

Interesting, because the overwhelming results of my forum searching has revealed that more people saw instability in 11 than 12, as 12 is the latest, official Siemens version.

It seems to me that the actual upgrade process is somewhat automatic and easy, so I think I may just take the plunge and do it. Personally I have this thing for always wanting to run the latest version of things. I'll be sure to post my results.

Thanks for your input.

I found vsn 012 to be very stable but it only acted up once.... so I can't complain. Beisdes the voice dialling sensitivity on vsn 011 I thought it was great -- very stable. I know alot of users who have rolled back to 011 but hey to each his/her own. I am not sure why some s55 fones have had bad luck with f/w vsn 012 but IMO it's fine. All in all I think alot of people are patiently waiting for vsn 015 now.

If I choose to upgrade to 12, and it gives me problems, how difficult is it to roll it back? Where would I find older firmware versions? You are starting to make me think that I should go to vsn 11 first, and not even look at vsn 12 unless 11 isn't stable.

I would really appreciate your guidance here. Thanks!

Didn't mean to give you that impression at all... My aplogies. Vsn 012 is stable and all but there have been members in this forum that feel otherwise and I was just trying to convery that... that's all. Check your PM.

Replied to PM...and thank you.

There is a serious ringtone-bug in FW12, so it's smarter to wait for the next FW (16 I think) to be released

Can you elaborate a little bit more on this? What kind of "serious ringtone bug"?

Posted by: molna

It never stop ringing sometimes.

It doesn't happend to all FW12 users though.. It's a strange bug

UPDATE!

I have gone ahead and upgraded the firmware to vsn 12. All seems to be a-okay. Of greatest concern was the ringtone continuing to ring after call answered, as posted many times in the forum archives, and I am glad to say that thus far I do not seem to have that bug. I have not had much time to play with the phone and note any major differences, however my "seat of the pants" first impression is that the menus seem to be alot faster.

I'll be sure to post a more complete review once I have a chance to examine everything. Just thought I'd let everyone who was kind enough to respond to my original post that my upgrade seems to have been successful. BTW, the Siemens upgrade program is soooo easy. Plug & play basically. Took about 8 minutes.
