i have a SE w580i that was bought from AT&T and it was unlocked and i am using it currently in India. A few days back i dropped the phone down and the display suddenly went off just showing 4 quadrants occupying the full screen. But i am able to recieve incoming calls. when i went to customer care center they gave me the reply that it might be due to a problem in the firmware and that needs to be reinstalled. they also said that if the firmware installation fails then the mobile will be useless. is the problem really with the display or the firmware? can anyone kindly help me in solving out this issue?

I don't know if you ever got this issue resolved. I would try reconnecting the LCD (with the phone off, of course). If that doesn't correct it, I'd try replacing the LCD ( not very expensive off of E-bay). The phones I have seen like this, one or the other choices fixed the problem. Of course, depending on the drop, you could have done damage to the circut board.
