1)What is the best method of receiving calls from my fido account when overseas?

I have access to a MagicJack & GrandCentral US #; i also have a basic Skype account.

Problem i foresee is that MJ necessitates usb connection hence laptop connection;

I will have unlimited internet on my phone in UK but cannot find an ideal soln to receive calls in real time and reply in real time.

Any suggestions from the experts here greatly appreciated...!!

If you've got unlimited internet on your phone, have you considered straight SIP? I don't know if there's a SIP client on your specific phone, but the Nokia I'm using has it built in. Works great ~90% of the time on Rogers 3G, not sure how it would be in the UK.

When you say you have unilimited Internet, is that high-speed, full-time, like DSL or are you talking GPRS? If you have high-speed this is what I'd do. I don't know how well this will work for Fido.

Forward my cellular line to my GrandCentral (now Google Voice) number. Direct Google Voice to ring to my Gizmo SIP address. Leave my computer running. You could also forward you Gizmo number to your UK cellular line but this will have a cost. You can also get a Gizmo or Skype inbound number in Canada and either answer that number on your PC or forward it to your UK phone. Again, forwarding to a UK cell will cost something.

sounds like Skype would work pretty well... and the WM client for Skype work well too - makes a workable handset among other things...

thanks to all for your suggestions; having left in a rush the solution that i opted for was to transfer fido calls to Gc, and then pick up the VM via a UK cell phone;

i subscribed to orangE PAYGO SIM with 5 GBP (1bout 9-10$ cdn) of internet access per week, cheaper if u take the BB plan which was 5 GBP per month...
