Phone Costs

Just out of curiousity, why do some phones cost more when they seem worse? I own the Samsung Omnia and I'm wondering why it's free now and the Samsung Saga isn't.

When Verizon were selling their last batch of VX6800, why was it so expensive? I heard it was because that was the last phone allowed with the pay-by-use data plan.

My guess is that if the phone isn't a good seller or they are going to replace it with another model they make it free.

When comparing prices vs. quality of phone, a lot comes into play. first off you need to pay attention to the full retail price of the phone because this is the price that verizon pays for the phone from the manufacture. Also a lot has to do with how long the phone has been on the market. Phones that have been out for 6 months may be cheaper then one that has been out for 2 weeks. Some phones go on sale to push the devices out of stores to reduce stock, and some phones go on sale to increase sales of specific services. PDA's for example. If verizon is trying to increase there data sales they will put PDA's on sale to increase the amount of possible sales that would require data. at the same time sometimes more basic phones go on sale to stimulate accessory sales.
