Phone with best reception

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I had a blackjack i607 and finally stopped using it because the reception is so bad.

So what's the smart phone with the best reception?

Using a motorola c139 for now, signal is much better.

the blackjack II is even worse than the first blackjack.

Q9H is excellent from what I hear, the E71x will be excellent, TILT was great, 8525 was great, I have no experience with the FUZE though.

What the palm centro, bb curves?

I can get the centro for 100 and not extend my contract

Neither of them have 3g, and have dated operating systems. not to say that, WM or S60 aren't dated, but they are a little better.

The Pantech Matrix Pro (wm standard o/s) is on the web site now although it says it is out of stock. I haven't found one in the stores yet either. It is getting some decent comments on phone reception/use from some of the early reviews.

Zephxiii is right that the Q9h was excellent in the reception area.

Also, search a little here and you'll find another recent thread that asked and discussed the very same question and had some other opinions you could consider.

I searched for a day or two before posting this, didn't come up with much of anything on here or google.

Can the bb curves (8300, 8310, 8320 not be updated to the latest bb os? i didn't know they were dated).

nokia's are always a good choice for quality reception.

I've got two recommendations for you, one branded, one not - both modified WinMo devices. The Q9h is a sweet unit and a stump puller for calls and data. The unlocked device is the WinMo Treo Pro; a few Aussie guys I talk with use them on the Telstra network and the device gets that network's Blue Tick certification and they work in spades everywhere the Q9h does. One developer I see from time to time uses a Treo 750v with the 6.1 update and related it's working much better with the update than when he bought it new.

I'll also put in a recommendation for the Q9 in terms of reception...by far the best phone I've owned in terms of RF. I have a used unlocked Q9h for sale - PM me if you're interested.

so i've been using a centro for a few days now, its ok. the OS is meh, but the call quality, reception/signal and threaded SMS is excellent.

i do really miss wm6.1 though, far better than palm os imo.

also toyed with a blackberry, not a fan of the "threaded sms", im a huge texter so thats a deal breaker for me.

Posted by: zephxiii

I like texting on WM 6.1. WM6.1 for email and txt rox.

Posted by: gibson5469

yea if the blackjack got service where I work I would definitely keep it. i really like it a lot.

palm os is bugging me more and more ahah

Posted by: zephxiii

Try a q9h then, supposed to get excellent reception.

Posted by: gibson5469

anyone have any other recommendations. im looking into the Q9h but its a little bit bigger than I'd like.

Nokia e71 .....its a bit small though (posting from one as we speak)

This can be a very subjective process and most times there is always an element of compromise. I agree with you that the Q9h is a little wide and sold mine for that reason (among others). It did however have the best RF I ever experienced on a smartphone. But again, that was subjective and based on how it worked for me in my area.

Have you considered the unlocked Palm Treo Pro? I have not tried one (yet) but many report good RF. There is a comprehensive thread on the Palm Treo Pro in the WM Forum here and a lot more information over at the Treo Central site. I would mention that for me the BJ 2 has been excellent in the RF area and although not as strong as the Q9h, I prefer the BJ 2 for its size. I live and work in 3G area and that helps. Others in different areas and environments have complained about the BJ 2 reception. When you narrow this down, see if you can find other friends or co-workers in your area who might have a device you are interested in and ask them for their opinion.

Not too many people have Pda phones out here, especially not in the hick town the electronics plant I work in is located( main reason for new phone). I'm gonna go to the store and check out a q9 to see how I like it.

Really wish AT&T would relase the e71x already. I would probably extendy contract for that phone

Posted by: gibson5469

Also, any word on blackberry curve or bold RF performance? Can any compare it to the Q9H?

Posted by: zephxiii

HTC Fuze!! My 8525 and TILT both have had excellent reception. Not sure if the Fuze does too, but hopefully it should follow suit.

Posted by: SHoTTa35

I had the Fuze and it was OK in the reception, i think the antenna was at the bottom (to make room for GPS and Wifi at top)?

I know you said you don't like the Q9h so much but that's definitely the best. The Blackjack 2 is OK, same as the Fuze.

The best so far that i've had have been the Nokias (even the basic 2610 GoPhone was great in the reception department). Right now i'm using this N95 and it's nice too, no complaints but for phones AT&T sells i would try the BOLD. It seemed to me to have good reception (friend has one).

Posted by: gibson5469

I might have to get a trial on a few phones from AT&T to see which one works best where I need it. Or just get used to the palm until the e71 comes out and buy that. think im settled on it.
